Slovenia’s search for their Eurovision 2022 act has reached its exciting climax. On Saturday evening, the grand final of EMA 2022 took place and it was LPS who emerged victorious with their song “Disko”.

They will now represent Slovenia at Eurovision 2022 in Turin, Italy, this May.

LPS, which stands for Last Pizza Slice, initially battled their way through EMA Freš – the search for up and coming talent. After securing one of the top spots there, they went on to the main EMA competition. Qualifying from the semi-final, they then went up against 11 other acts in the grand final. But LPS were able to rise to the top of the pack and walk away with the EMA 2022 trophy.

The overall winner of EMA 2022 was determined by a 50/50 split between the public and a jury made up of different panels. These jury panels included: members of OGAE Slovenia; songwriters; radio personalities; television personalities; music performers.

This isn’t for me, I’m afraid. Maybe it’s just cuz I’m sad LUMA didn’t win. Hopefully it’ll grow on me, but for now, I’ll pass on it. It’s nice to see them singing in Slovene though, the linguistic diversity is shaping up to be really nice this year.

I like they won with both the public and juries, that tells me they are in sync and gurl I’m vibin’. They are very sweet and my top 2 at the moment just behind Italy. The won’t win, but I’m happy to get some variety in the form of disco revival 🙂 Good luck guys you won and I bet you’ll be in the finals as well.

Sending amateurs in front of more than 100 million people is not a good idea, Greece did that in 2016 and it was our worst entry ever.

That entry had a lot less of a general appeal to it though. Disko is kinda just like what the title says, people can vibe along to it without needing to know a deeper meaning behind it, which I did think was kinda necessary for Utopian Land

It’s not gonna be near of a mess as Greece 2016. Utopian Land is my guilty pleasure eurovision song, but I’ll admit that yeah, it’s not something you’d want representing your country lol. I don’t think Slovenia will qualify, but the group seems way more cohesive and I think will deliver an acceptable performance.

The least sounding disco record I’ve heard in quite a while.
You have to give it 100% when singing disco……right over the top in fact. These lads seem to be holding back a little and singing a rather bland mid tempo disco record, which doesn’t make any sense.
Obviously, the Slovenian public don’t want to see the contest held on home soil.

At this point, I really hope and want to see them qualifying.
One of the most authentic entries we have so far.
A young band with and old school song written by them. Their language. Good melody. Instruments. All.
It just feels very genuine. I hope Slovenia will do well.

They’re amazing. I’m really happy for them. I honestly didn’t see it coming, but it was Ema, a NF where anything can happen. It’s easy to say Luma, July or Batista we’re better, and honestly, it’s not possible to disagree. Any of my 4 faves would have been great and deserving in their way. I may have gone to the rival high school, but I will stand behind them.

I don’t understand the hate, I know it’s not the most original thing ever, but it’s cute and I enjoyed it. Maybe the lead singer should loosen up a little bit. But I don’t really think this is going to qualify at Eurovision. Still, just because your favorite didn’t win doesn’t mean you can hate on the winning act. Fingers crossed this becomes atleast a borderline qualifier at Eurovision.

Electric Velvet (UK’s entry in one ESC) vibes. I don’t know, again, this feels like it has potential – it can benefit from big stage in Turin and if the vocalist and the whole band rehearses a lot and makes it swift and memorable, it can elevate the performance. The vocalist definitely has a memorable voice and the song has energy, so it has a certain ”school concert” vibe, which can attract certain audiences.

I think my country would need age groups idea for the televoting, like in Melodifestivalen, since most of the votes for Lps were from their high school center Celje and for Bql the crazy obssesed teenagers. Also the juries should be international, preferably from countries that are in our semi final.

The good news is they have 2 months to practice and get better. The lead singer looks nervous and almost shy.. so they need to fix that. I am not a fan of this song at all, based purely on ny musical taste. However, They won the televote and jury vote, so respect for that alone. Maybe I am just missing something? Good luck to Slovenia in 2022

This was actually my 2nd favourite so I’m pretty happy.
It’s an interesting choice and probably not the one that would make most fans pleased but it won the televote and did well with the juries so it was the rightful winner.

Sidenote: Seriously, some of the comments in these comment sections are getting ridiculous now. A lot of you need to grow up. If your favourite doesn’t win, that doesn’t mean that the winner is terrible. Just because YOU like a song doesn’t mean it’s the ONLY choice for a country that you’ve never been to.

Slovenia being Slovenia and another year where the favourite(s) do not win.

Poor BQL, trying and trying but no win.

I think the winning song is boring but it could be a surprise qualifier, it’s not certain now as we have many bland songs.

A strange place? LPS is legit quality, I’m happy they chose something different and both the public and the jury were on the same line. But if you yearn for pop entries there are more in other NF and probably more to come.

I think you miss my point. Most countries do choose pop entries, so by definition this result is baffling. I don’t think anyone on here seriously thought LPS had a chance of winning before the contest and usually these pages are fairly accurate as to winners pre-contest – it is very rare that something comes from left field to win, and that is what happened here, which is why I said Slovenia must be a strange place. As it happens, I like strange so I’m pleased we got something different. The song itself is ok. I am worried that it… Read more »

It’s not a strange place. Boring and meh is was comes in mind. Slovenes don’t like anything that’s different, modern, unique etc. We always choose something safe and bland. LPS is as safe, bland and unoriginal as you can get. So I’m not even surprised it won.

Your comment is so out of place; slovenes are not the problem, you are. You can dislike LPS, that’s a personal choice, but to suggest they don’t like anything different, unique…, just because your favorite didn’t win, IDK but it sounds a bit xenophobic.

Which pages you mean? wiwibloggs? polling websites? odds-checkers? I suspect you have a bias towards pop music (otherwise the argment of “most people choose pop entries” would not have even come out of your mind), and that’s fair, you like it so ok. But you are wrong, these websites, although popular, do not cater to the greater Eurovision Audience; moreover most people voting in Slovenia are not familiar with sites like these. So your definition of “baffling” is completely out of place, and no, I didn’t missed your point. To me it seems baffling you’d say “most countries chose pop”… Read more »

If we set aside our collective disappointment that LUMA is not going to Eurovision, let’s nonetheless celebrate the fact that an actual high-school band who wrote the song themselves, have very little experience performing (especially on TV), came all the way through from EMA Fres to the final, came top 2 with both the juries & televote, and won the whole thing. Whatever happens in Turin, happens. They may not get the result we all hoped for Slovenia this year but they will go performing from small local stages to a massive stage with over 200 million people watching. Kudos… Read more »

Give them a break. They are young. They may not be totally comfortable on stage or vocally flawless, but to call them untalented is ridiculous.

They wrote a catchy retro song and clearly captured both the public and the jury’s attention. They weren’t my faves either but they deserve respect, at the very least!

Marios

If they are young and fragile they could stay at their homes. Since they entered a contest, they have to be ready to be judged.

They wrote a non song and they have zero stage charisma and vocal ability. And we have seen really talented young people in the past. Lying to people that they are something that they are not is not respect. And we don’t help them in that way.
