It’s the newspaper that first told the world about the infamous Tinder Swindler. And now the journalists at Norway’s largest newspaper VG think they’ve cracked another case of subterfuge and misdirection — the mystery of Subwoolfer.
On Monday, just two days after Subwoolfer won Melodi Grand Prix, the publication ran with a story linking singers Gaute Ormåsen and Ben Adams to the yellow extraterrestrial wolves.
Media reports link Gaute Ormåsen and Ben Adams to Subwoolfer
The investigative report places Gaute and Ben at the H3 Arena in Bærum, at the same time as Subwoolfer and NRK were recording a backup performance for Eurovision 2022 in Turin. The newspaper sleuths spotted a Volkswagen registered to Ormåsen and a Porche registered to Adams parked outside the venue. Neither singer was availble for comment when approached by the publication.
The paper did manage to get a few words from Norway’s Head of Delegation Stig Karlsen. However, he gave little away. “Impossible for me to think anything about this”, he told VG in an initial text message. “Hmm… maybe this is part of a big game? It is no secret that we have Eurovision recordings here today”.
Later on, Karlsen was doorstepped at the arena. When asked if Ben Adams and Gaute Ormåsen were there, he simply replied “I do not know”. On their cars being parked outside, he said “I cannot comment on anything that is going on around here”.
Who are Ben Adams and Gaute Ormåsen?
Ben Adams is a British singer, best known for being a member of the 1990s boyband A1. Much of his work is now based in Norway, and he took part in Melodi Grand Prix 2010 along with the rest of his bandmates. Meanwhile, Gaute Ormåsen rose to fame on the first season of Norwegian Idol. He competed at MGP in 2010 and again in 2013.
The pair aren’t the first famous names to be linked to Subwoolfer. Shortly after “Give That Wolf A Banana” was first released, many speculated that comedy duo Ylvis could be the ones behind the act.
What do you think of the latest Subwoolfer theory? Let us know below.
Of course it’s Gaute Ormåsen. Clearly.
Of course it’s Valentín Elizalde and Chalino Sánchez, duh! 😀
Silly..
Eurofans about Latvia – it’s a joke, I can’t take it seriously, it’s too silly, it’s about food ew etc.
Eurofans about Norway – it’s so fun, it’s so quirky, I love it.
Mjaa….
It’s simple, Norway’s song is a solid pop song with solid production, it’s a party song. Latvia’s is a joke on its entirety, it’d be a joke even without the lyrics
I swear to god I posted on their YouTube performance, wolf on right’s voice sounds like Ben Adams!
Alan Walker took a photo with them, is it just a coincidence? Hmm.
I think they should reveal their identities and i think it will happen at one point in Turin.
I’m more curious to know if they will show their mouths. It’s a singing competition and it’s ridiculous that they don’t show any of their mouths to clarify if they are singing live or not.
I was thinking the exactly same thing.
If you look closely then you can see that they are moving their mouths. But how will you determin that when seeing them move their mouth it is not just mouthing the words? Maybe they are very good at pretending? 😀 I think it’s fine the way it is and we have to trust EBU to makse sure it is live.
The organisers will make sure that they sing live, we don’t have to see their mouths.
Clearly they are singing live. First of all you can see it if you look closely, you can hear their breathing in the microphone, and the broadcaster will surely know, and have strict rules to follow
If you look closely at the national final performance video, timestamp 2:43, you’ll see that there is a mouth hole on the yellow head mask they are wearing. https://youtu.be/FJjo8s3fKUM?t=163
I doubt that the show producers will allow them NOT to sing live.
Does anyone have any music analytical historical background here
It’s such an obvious Daft Punk rip off without the depth
Same marketing different mask and the musical influence is obvious
I agree. Being Daft Punk requires a little more than just wearing a mask indeed! No doubt the song is funny and catchy, but musically speaking, it is very poor…
Almost certain I think France will. win
Right, you’ve had enough for one night, I’m closing your tab, go home and get some sleep
They probably wouldn’t win but Alvan et Ahez could be another televoting top 5 and even overall top 5 for France if staged properly in Torino…
Always dangerous to post a comment like this about France on wiwi… you can say the same about some others countries I won’t name, as much as you want and it wouldn’t have the same effect weirdly, even after 45 years and with their recent big efforts France has still not the right to win….ok some readers here are really the worst eurofans ever.
I have the feeling the whole mystery thing will wane the more acts are announced. Perhaps it will provide some suspense the week of the contest, but unless they win the ESC it kind of becomes irrelevant.
Lol… Another masked singer ? France….. Ta place…. Uk… Ward Thomas….. Australia or Polands ochman will win this year ? all good
Some things I don’t understand : why they can sing but are not able to talk during the interviews?
And I don’t really understand the story line around their characters and their song, I think there are inconsistencies….but I love bananas, I’m a yellow sucker and the song is cool.
Oh and I just watch the final performance of Elsie in MGP, speechless, perfect, there was everything, emotions, staging, lights, voice, everything perfect, congrats to her too.
Because that would reveal that one of them is british….
I think it’s probably because if you hear their speaking voices (along with them singing voices), it’ll be even easier to guess who it is.
They don’t want to be recognized by their voice
They don’t speak because it would be easy to confirm who they are. Ben Adams is British, and all though he’s lived in Norway for a long time and probably understands Norwegian, I don’t think he speaks the language. And if he does he’ll have a heavy accent. Gaute Ormåsen has a very specific dialect, and it’s not sure he’d be able to pull off another dialect to fool the viewers. That’s why. I hope they will do interviews themselves without the other guy in Torino, though.
I’m almost 100% sure that JOWST produced and wrote the song and he is the DJ in the astronaut suit, mark my words. It’s a guess, but the music suits his style and that he’s on stage like 2017 (on a DJ desc and hidden behind a “mask”) is also fitting.
Ithink exactly the same – also the fact he is a part of team, always mentioned he will perform with them, posing in the final…yeah, also the girls, but him especially,.
I also have a feeling that JOWST is involved for some reason.
Do I get a cookie for “I told you so”? https://wiwibloggs.com/2022/01/10/norway-are-ylvis-behind-subwoolfers-melodi-grand-prix-2022-entry/268386/#comment-1215707
Wow. The VG article convinced me with the artists having the same manager. When you say you recognise his voice without having heard a speculation that it’s him. Then I’m really convinced.
I can see them win the televote as voters will think this is masked singer. So they will hype up that they will unmask if they win 😀
But who cares about the unmasking moment if only people in Norway will know who they are?
Good luck keeping it a secret, they need to travel to italy so people will see them and they cant wear full face masks
It’s Jedward, lol
Not Senhit and Valentina?
Tor and Bettan?
Alina Pash and Maruv?
It’s John Lennon and Jim Morrison. I thought this was obvious?
Reliable sources say they are William and Deban.
Easy : just have to find a way to make them say “let’s do this” and we’ll know for sure.
It’s 2022.
People still think that “who hides beneath those singers masks” is a thing.
Gimme a break!
They are Keith and Jim from the Moon.
gosh I already posted on other topic that EBU should impose on removing or atleast made them wear a mask that their mouth is clearly revealed else I’ll believe they are using playback. And this kind of Interview is just clearly made up promotions just like Sia wig hiding her face, a lot knows them!
On the norwegian Wikipedia page, there are also Sirkus Eliassen mentioned.
But well, I do wanns know but I respect them, if they keep it as a secret until May.
As already mentioned, its part of the whole Subwoolfer concept and it brings sort of mystery to this act.
And of course, some people of NRK and the EBU should be awared, who the people behind Keith and Jim (as well as DJ Astro) are but they‘ll keep that secret until its ready to be revealed.
I was watching their MGP video after reading your comment and they could totally be them, the height match and the voices are similar
Sorry for off topic but Anders Bagge is almost number 1 according to bookmakers …. 🙁 I cant see another favorits to go home
Would he be the oldest singer to ever win melfest? It’s very rare for Sweden to send someone older.
No we dont need cheesy songs anymore – we have enough … Klara/Liamoo/Cornelia andiamoo
I remember a1, they were on kids tv quite regularly back in the late 90s/early 2000s. I also remember them at MGP in 2010, would have been good if they represented the UK that year in Oslo. How much as Ben done in Norway since then? Still making music? Does he speak Norwegian?
This could be Ben’s revenge on Norway for
not making it through in 2010 over Derek Silly Tango. I think he appears on “celebrity” shows and is married to Miss Norway. As you Kristian Ingebrigtsen was also a member of A1.
If Ben Adams comes to the ESC, he has to come without a mask!
Who cares?
That’s possible. Let’s not forget the lyrics in “Give That Wolf a Banana” indicate that the duo calls themselves Keith and Jim.
There’s not much to think about concerning Gaute Ormåsen. Just take a look at the guitar in the music video, then google “Gaute Ormåsen gitar”. It’s the same guitar ?…
I think eat your salad and save the planet being green is hot
What about their voices, do they have the same voices?
User Rita was certain before this reveal https://wiwibloggs.com/2022/01/10/norway-are-ylvis-behind-subwoolfers-melodi-grand-prix-2022-entry/268386/#comment-1215707
Not falling for rumours subwoolfer will reveal their true identity when they are ready until then just enjoy the mystery
I think it is Erling Haaland and Alexander Rybak. Or Marcus & Martinus?
I thought Jowst was involved…. they will hide the thing until Eurovision so we can still speculate we won’t have the answer soon.
It’s a marketing thing like the Daft Punk did, it will help to make talk about them in May.
Ben Adams and Gaute Orbasen??? Really??? Just wow!!!
(Irony mode on).
oh cmon it is easy to check, just see who’s entering the studios before the performances – plus NRK has the contracts and knows all the details. sooner or later they will be officially revealed unless the agreement with NRK is not to leak their identities.
In any case, it is impossible to keep it a secret now with social media.
Both guys are followed by Wiwibloggs and William so i guess it’s just another hint 😉
It would be nice if you gave attention to other artists and countries, instead of all of the same national finals and countries, Montenegro and the Netherlands announcened their dates, yet no coverage was made… Strange.
At which date will the Dutch song be revealed?
The one on the bottom looks a bit like Morten Harket
The one on the top got famous with an A-ha song…
How is it even allowed that performers remain anonymous?
Why shouldn’t it be allowed?
They might not need to tell the audience, but at least NRK and the EBU.
Well they will need to send their passports and personal details to EBU and host country because they need to have their cards to enter buildings.
Even the public should know – it’s their money NRK are spending.
Maybe I’m taking this too seriously.
Not knowing their identity is part of the fun and Subwoolfers concept (them being from the moon and that they are the most successful band in the universe). If they would reveal themselves right know, the „magic“ would be gone.
I think the whole point of this is that their identity should NOT matter, but to focus on the song instead.
It’s a clever strategy.
I suppose they are fictional characters. Lordi kinda did the same thing.
And Silvia Knight
Second year in a row that the Norwegian winner has worked hard to make it about everything but the song. Understandable, because the songs aren’t all that good.
