It’s the reigning Eurovision bronze medallist. And in just seven days time, we will discover who will pick up the baton for Switzerland in Turin. On Tuesday morning, national broadcaster SRF shared a graphic that gave us almost all the information we needed to know — “March 8th Reveal of the Swiss artist and song”.
A short caption elaborated that we will also get the official music video on the same day.
Switzerland will release its Eurovision 2022 song on 8 March
Fans still remain completely in the dark as to who the chosen act might be, unlike in 2019 and 2020 when both Luca Hänni and Gjon’s Tears were heavily rumoured in advance of any official announcement. However, while the Swiss are remaining tight-lipped about their act, they have provided lots of detail on the process they used to select the entry.
Like in 2019 and 2020, a 100-person panel was used to help select the Swiss entry. The panel was selected in 2021 in conjunction with regular partner Digame. The panel was specially selected to represent the tastes of a typical Eurovision viewer, rather than Eurovision fans.
During the selection process, the songs were also assessed by a 20-person international expert jury. Notable names on this list included Ilinca (Romania 2017), PAENDA (Austria 2019), Ovidiu Jacobsen (Romania 2010 & 2014) and Tinkara Kovač (Slovenia Eurovision 2014).
The chosen entry will have two tough acts to follow. Hänni, the first performer to be chosen by Switzerland through this particular internal method, placed fourth in Tel Aviv with “She Got Me”. Gjon’s Tears would do one better in 2021 with “Tout l’univers”. His entry for the cancelled 2020 contest, “Répondez-moi”, had also been tipped to do well.
Are you excited to hear the Swiss song? Who do you think it might be? Let us know down below.
Apparently it will be Marius Bear. Beautiful voice. Now let’s see if the song is good!
Yep! He has a unique voice. So definitely nothing we have to be ashamed of.
Mein tip: noah sam honegger
Bastian Baker maybe after all, his recent song The Way It is, release november last year well within the deadline rule, song length is 2:55 and it also gives me a eurovision-ish feeling, more like a mix of Duncan and Nathan Trent
Unfortunately he already said that he won’t participate this year in an interview. But he would love to write a song for one of the contestants. I have high hopes on Stefanie Heinzmann! She would be perfect for the job.
Oh please no!
switzerland is undoubtedly at the front of the running of the countries that will win this decade. even though their entries haven’t really been my cup of tea, it’s so refreshing to see them doing well and that the changes made have been worthwhile. something in my gut has been telling me for months now that 2022 will be switzerland’s year to snatch the crown, and i’d love to be proven right!
Athena manoukian releases “KISS ME IN THE RAIN” this friday. If she gets selected for Armenia I think that’s going to be the song. I don’t see her releasing this and then another song for eurovision.
That just leaves Cyprus, Armenia and UK that haven’t said anything
Switzerland has been on a roll since 2019 and their selection method proved to be successful right away!
I’ll be looking forward to seeing what they got in store, rn I feel it can be a hit-or-miss scenario, with the “miss” not being an actual miss but rather something just underwhelming compared to Luca and Gjon.
I would like to see Meimuna with a song like “au-delà” or Madreselva with something like
“the caves”. OWBY and Oh Mu could be great contenders too. But it’s just my wish-list.
There are strong rumors around Ana WhiteRose, Zian and Chiara Dubey.
Ana took part to the songwritingcamp last summer. So it could be more than possible.
“She got me” and “Repondez moi” are masterpieces. I wish this year Switzerland delivers.
Agreed, but you forgot to mention Tout l’Univers.
Everyone is expecting something great to happen but for whatever reason I have a feeling that the actual entry won’t be as good as people were hoping.
That’s always the risk, what if the song isn’t as good as we expected it to be. So I am keeping my expectations at a moderate level.
I have the same concern, but hey! Many of us felt that way last year with Gjon before Tout L’Univers was released so I wouldn’t mind too much 🙂
Switzerland has been on a roll since 2019, so at this point they’re my last hope to dethrone Italy. (Not that I mind Brividi, it’s a gorgeous song and I would love for Italy to score a double win… but at this point I just thought we’d be getting stronger songs from multiple countries, and the line-up has been kinda disappointing).
I find Italy’s song EXTREMELY overrated compared to the likes of Norway, Poland, Finland and Croatia who should get more credit.
I guess everyone has different tastes, haha. I find all of the songs you mentioned either just ok (Norway) or of poor quality (Poland, Finland, Croatia). I think the current betting odds are fair and reflects well how these songs should be ranked: Italy/Ukraine at the top, Poland/Norway in the lower end of the top 10, and then Finland/Croatia somewhere outside the top 10.
Italy is just beautifully performed and elegant, it’s very soothing and their chemistry on stage is insane. I think that’s why people respond well to it.
Are you Kidding me @bella? Poland and Finland of poor quality??? I wonder what is quality for you?
Fully agree
Norway’s also overrated, dude. But the other entries you mentioned are ok and deserve more appreciation, still Brividi is better atm
I have hope that Greece, Cyprus, and Azerbaijan will have amazing songs that could challenge for the win in Turin.
Among the ones you mentioned, I only have hopes on Greece, Cyprus and Azerbaijan have been getting “worse” year after year :/
Cyprus scored well with Fuego and since then all they’ve done is try to replicate that success by sending cheap knock-off. They’ll probably do the same and send a song that has literally zero Cyprus in it: a non-Cypriot artist again, singing some cheap summer hit with a 2-syllable Spanish name like “Playa”, “Bailar”, “Mi amor”, “Chica”, etc.
I wasn’t a massive fan of Replay but El Diablo was a bop let’s not lie here. That said they do feel repetitive.
I’m also confident about that. It’s okay at first to copy the same successful strategy, but overdoing it would eventually kill the momentum.
And it leads to diminishing returns. Cypress has been landing lower and lower since their second Place finished with fuego in 2018. I dread that They might not qualify
I’d like to see Switzerland send something in Italian as I not to Italy host in the contest, but whatever language the song will be in, I hope it’s another great song from them. When I don’t wanna see is Them do is trying to ape Måneskin. But I can’t wait for next week.
I surprised nobody else is trying to replicate Switzerland’s internal selection process. Surely it can’t be that hard to replicate unless the Swiss broadcaster is hiding something that it doesn’t want the other broadcasters to know.
Funny enough, Switzerland copied Germany’s 2018 selection method for their internal selection process.
And both are/were successful too
Calling Germany successful is like calling Putin a beacon of peace. Germany had one successful song/artist with Michael Schulte. The rest is vivid descriptions of why some people hate Eurovision.
LPS should be trembling every day more ?
Italian language this year??
hope they make a banger
I kinda want to see indie-pop duo BOY, but they’re quite inactive since last year. Anyway, I’m convinced it’s gonna be something different from Gjon and Luca; something that will add variety in Turin.
win
I have a feeling Switzerland will either have the act that challenges the “current favorites” Italy/Ukraine for the win OR their entry will be very underwhelming.
I’m hoping it’s the former, it’s nice to see them rise from the ashes in the past 2/3 years.
Switzerland has managed to get back on track in recent years after a string of disappointments. Could this be their time to take the crown?
Can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for us. Based on how great the acts were the last two (actually three) times and the amount of effort they seem to be putting in Eurovision lately this should be good. Hopefully a potential winner that shakes things up. Apart from Brividi there’s not much winner potential yet, for me personally of course.
I hope for succes agreat song like last year I am very curious !
such
Who do you think it is? Caroline Alves? Everglow? TRI.BE? Vendredi sur Mer?
Intrigued, seeing their recent results I think it’s an efficient selection method, pretty sure a good act and a good song are coming.
