Melodifestivalen 2022: Anders Bagge — “Bigger Than The Universe”

Anders Bagge, 54, has one of the most famous smiles in Sweden. He’s best known as the friendly-faced judge on Idol, where he served as a panellist for five series. He’s written tracks for Madonna, Janet Jackson and Celine Dion, and contributed to two Azerbaijani Eurovision entries — Safura’s “Drip Drop” and Sabina Babayeva’s “When The Music Dies”.

After years as the man behind the music, Anders is ready for his time in the spotlight. In 2021, he was unmasked as the Sea Bear on The Masked Singer, placing fourth. Now, Anders is bidding to represent his country in the world’s biggest music competition.

“Bigger Than The Universe” was written by Anders Bagge alongside the songwriting trio of Thomas G:son, Peter Boström and Jimmy Jansson.

Thomas G:son is a legendary name in the Eurovision world. He’s got a myriad of Eurovision tracks under his belt, including Nina Sublatti’s “Warrior”, Edurne’s “Amanecer”, and most famously, Loreen’s “Euphoria”, which stormed to victory at Eurovision 2012.

Jimmy Jansson is known for tracks like Ben & Tan’s “Yes” and The Mamas’ “In The Middle”. Meanwhile, Peter Boström is credited as a songwriter on Ace Wilder’s “Wild Child” and Verka Serduchka’s “Make It Rain Champagne”.

What do the “Bigger Than The Universe” lyrics mean?

“Bigger Than The Universe” is a feel-good showstopper ballad about experiencing a euphoria greater than all that is known. Anders sings about grasping life with both hands and seizing the moment. With lyrics like “There’s a rain of hope pouring down on me” and “There’s a guiding light shining down on me”, Anders proclaims joy at finding his place in the world.

Anders told wiwibloggs: “It’s a big step for me to go up on the stage. And I hope it sends out — that all see that even if you’re scared you need to believe in yourself. That’s my biggest issue that I can’t really control, and this was the step.”

“Bigger Than The Universe” lyrics — Anders Bagge (Melfest 2022)

Songwriters: Anders Bagge, Jimmy Jansson, Peter Boström and Thomas G:son

I’m sitting here
In my apple tree
There’s a guiding light shining down on me

I can see the dawning of my life
Bigger than the universe

Just take my hand
Put your trust in fate
Let us leave this world for a better place

A place where all the darkest days are gone
And everyone’s a champion

Hear, my heart is
Beating like a symphony
And every word is poetry
We are, we are

Reaching for thе stars like
Satellites up in thе sky
In a world of you and I
We are, we are
Bigger than the universe

As I’m sitting here
In my apple tree
There’s a rain of hope pouring down on me
I can see the sunrise of my soul
Bigger than the universe

Forever young
Join the ride with me
There’s an open road to eternity

We’re dancin’ on the edge
We’re wild and free

Hear, my heart is
Beating like a symphony
And every word is poetry
We are, we are

Reaching for the stars like
Satellites up in the sky
In a world of you and I
We are, we are
Bigger than the universe

We are, we are
We are, we are
Bigger than the universe

We are, we are
We are, we are
We are bigger than the universe
We are, we are
We are, we are
Oh, bigger than the universe

We are, we are
We are, we are
Bigger than the universe

We are, we are

I heard that he is very popular and loved there.. He was a judge at IDOL Sweden so he is familiar to TV audience.. Some people claim that’s why he’s going to win. Can somebody from Sweden please explain ?

This is something that the UK would send but it isnt sending this kind of song this year.

The song is totally predictable Melfest stuff, offering no surprises at all except for the singer. I only knew his name because of the Azerbaijani songs he wrote, and of course one of the great mistakes that one can make in Eurovision is sending a personality that everyone in the country likes but nobody outside your country knows. That being said, there is something endearing about him that I like and actually enjoy this song more than most others in the Melfest final. Don’t think he should win though.

would be funny if he wins, and i can see him do well at ESC, especially in semi 2 which has UK, Malta where he could get votes from, and possibly also Azerbaijan considering he is a familiar face for them (Drip Drop, When the Music Dies)

also quite like the song, a very nostalgic vibe i get from this
