Melodifestivalen 2022: Klara Hammarström — “Run To The Hills”

Klara Hammarström, 21, is a pop star and former competitive horse rider from Stockholm, Sweden. Her first stint with fame came when she appeared alongside her 11 siblings on the SVT show Familjen Hammarström, which followed Klara’s horse-loving family on their journey to success.

This year marks Klara’s third consecutive Melodifestivalen attempt. In 2020, she sang “Nobody”, which failed to qualify from its semi-final, then in 2021 she sang “Beat of Broken Hearts”, which placed sixth in the final.

“Run To The Hills” was written by Klara Hammarström, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, Julie Aagaard and Anderz Wrethov.

Thörnfeldt is a familiar name amongst Eurovision fans. He also collaborated on Senhit’s “Adrenalina” and Elena Tsagrinou’s “El Diablo”, both of which made it to the Eurovision 2021 grand final.

Meanwhile, Anderz Wrethov is best known as one of the songwriters behind “Too Late For Love”, John Lundvik’s winning entry at Melfest 2019. Jimmy and Anderz also collaborated on Tusse’s “Voices”, which won the 2021 Swedish ticket to Eurovision.

Julie Aagaard, also known as Kill J, is a Swedish artist and songwriter. Aagaard also wrote “The End” for Melfest 2022 debutant Angelino, who competed against Klara in semi-final four.

What do the “Run To The Hills” lyrics mean?

“Run To The Hills” is an inspiring anthem about envisioning your goals and doing whatever you can to chase them. With lyrics like “I feel it through my body like fire tonight” and “I’m running to save my haunted soul”, Klara takes a leap of faith towards making her dreams come true.

Klara told wiwibloggs: “‘Run To The Hills’ is about chasing your dreams and not listening to the people or the voice in your head that tells you you can’t do it.

“I have always been a big dreamer, I have big goals, and I wanna tell the people out there you can just go for it. The hill is just getting bigger and bigger — the dream — if you’re not chasing it. So, if you start climbing, then it’s maybe a little bit smaller than you think in your head. I wanna inspire people to go out and do their thing.”

“Run To The Hills” lyrics — Klara Hammarström (Melfest 2022)

Songwriters: Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, Julie Aagaard, Anderz Wrethov and Klara Hammarström

They say I
Been running from myself
But they don’t understand
‘Cause the pain of you
Is in my every cell
And it’s pumping through my veins

And I feel it through my body like fire tonight
And it pulls me in
I’m howling at the moonlight

And I

Run to the hills
I’m making it on my own
I’m facing my demons, here I go
I’m running, I’m running alone
To the hills
Where the brokenhearted go
I’m running to save my haunted soul
Run to the hills

Run to the hills
I’m making it on my own
I’m facing my demons, here I go
Run to the hills
They say you
Won’t flee a broken heart
The nights move in on you
But they have never
Racеd under the stars
The flight will see mе through

And I feel it through my body like fire tonight
And it pulls me in
I’m howling at the moonlight

And I

Run to the hills
I’m making it on my own
I’m facing my demons, here I go
I’m running, I’m running alone
To the hills
Where the brokenhearted go
I’m running to save my haunted soul
I run to the hills

Run to the hills
I’m making it on my own
I’m facing my demons, here I go
I’m running, I’m running alone
To the hills
Where the brokenhearted go
I’m running to save my haunted soul
Run to the hills
And it pulls me in
I’m howling at the moonlight

And I

Run to the hills
I’m making it on my own
I’m facing my demons here I go
I’m running, I’m running alone
To the hills
Where the brokenhearted go
I’m running to save my haunted soul
I run to the hills

Run to the hills
I’m making it on my own
I’m facing my demons here I go
I’m running, I’m running alone
To the hills
Where the brokenhearted go
I’m running to save my haunted soul
Run to the hills

I very much liked her song and stage persona last year. But Run to the Hills sounds so 2013 and her outfit is super weird.

Cornelia’s song and performance are in a league of their own. This one is plastic and clicheeic and pretty much uninspiring.

So is Cornelia’s. This is Melodifestivalen we’re talking about. Last time Sweden didn’t send a cookie-cutter pop song was in 2009

That was written by Fredrik Kempe… anything good about it came from Malena.

Its the exact same type of song people are tired of Sweden sending. Only with a female instead of pretty boy

Come on Klara! You can do this! Please vote for Klara Saturday! She has put so much hard work into her performance and worked hard to get here, participating two other times and getting better and better. She needs to win either this year or next year! Her staging isn’t that bad and her outfit represents her inner demons!

TeamKlara, loving the motivational message in this song a lot, i personally do like her costume and stage show, i mean you can also wear a normal dress but then you would have the risk it would come across as too bland or boring, her performance has so much wow factor, and i also like the little musical stage choreo with the demon character some year will be her year to represent sweden at ESC, i am still hoping this is her year but as long as she finishes top 3 here i will be happy, and she is my… Read more »

Her song is good but this outfit doesn’t value her at all and is pretty distracting unfortunately, anyway good luck to her for the jury show today.

Her outfit reminds me of a fusion of Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel, lol. I personally love it, it’s very vibrant, lively and colorful.

I agree. On the other hand, Cornelia’s outfit is gloriously appropriate, the fringes – being torn apart and bare skin – honesty and vulnerability.

This is my winner! And I hope she takes the crown tomorrow.
