The time for Portugal’s big decision is here. The country is set to choose its Eurovision 2022 act on Saturday during the grand final of Festival da Canção 2022.

Before they do, it’s time to find out who our readers want so see represent the Iberian nation

It was a tough fight for first place, with 2,295 votes being cast in total.

But in the end, our readers believe MARO should take the trophy home with her song “saudade, saudade“.

Scroll down to see the full results.

MARO is a favourite to win Festival da Canção 2022

She is able to write in multiple genres, including reggaeton, pop, R&B, EDM and even folk. But it is MARO’s ethereal mid-tempo ballad “saudade, saudade” that is making national and international fans swoon.

The Portuguese singer-songwriter finished top of our poll with 26.45% of the votes– that’s 607 votes specifically.

Finishing in second place is experimental duo Pongo & Tristany. Interpreting DJ Marfox’s “DÉGRA.DÊ”, the performance combining multiple music genres and cultural references is a cocktail that suits our readers tastes.

The duo secured 24.84% of the votes, which is 570 votes.

If it was up to you, the bronze medal position would be occupied by SYRO and his radio friendly ballad “Ainda Nos Temos”. A strong performance in the semi-final cemented his spot as a favourite for victory.

In our poll, 13.86% of the votes (318 votes) were cast for the established singer-songwriter.

Meanwhile, another fan favourite, Aurea, comes in fourth place. The Voice Portugal host and established musician took flight with her power ballad “Why”.

She was the only other act to receive more than 10% of the vote – 11.76% (270 votes).

Grand final show details

The grand final of Festival da Canção 2022 is set for 12 March. Taking us through proceedings will be Eurovision 2018 host Filomena Cautela as well as Vasco Palmeirim. Inês Lopes Gonçalves will be the green room host.

In the grand final, the result will be split 50/50 between the televote and seven regional juries. If we have a tie, the televote will prevail.

The ultimate winner will represent Portugal at Eurovision 2022 in Turin, Italy. Portugal are scheduled to perform in the second half of the first semi-final on 10 May.

Maro reminds me some bands and singers that I really love like Zero 7, Kings of Convenience or India Arie, but I think the reallly competent and professional performance of Aurea and the energy and freshness of Pongo would do much better at the Eurovision

I do agree that if Aurea wins the public and is second with the juris—she wins. I’d be shocked if MARO wins the public given her lack of big name recognition—but, hey, NEEV did it last year against Carolina Deslandes. Interestingly enough—Carolina just posted on MARO’s Instagram her support.

you guys clearly are not understanding my point and that’s fine. I know Maro is extremely popular but I actually do question if she could be another Salvador. That’s why I said I had a feeling she’ll win the Jury but not sure with the televote. Salvador also went viral the previous weeks to the FDC Final and he was the talk of the town. And yet, if it wasn’t for the juries, that Viva La Diva mess would’ve won and we would still be winless at the Eurovision. I could see Aurea winning the public due to her name… Read more »

Salvador not winning it is still an x file. Something had to go wrong.
In this right moment I have the same feeling that Maro will probably win jury. It could change tho. As for televote not sure but Top 3 feels right. She might even win it.
Big name factor didn’t help Carolina last year and she lost televote to Neev who was unkown because he had the better song so this may happen with Aurea. Who knows

Bold choice fellow Wiwi voters. I still think of Maro as a Dark Horse, but the preference here seems clear.

I would be happy with most of the finalists to go to Torino, my personal favorites are P&T, Syro, Maro or Os Quatro E Meia in random order.

Portugal cannot go wrong with almost any choice they will make and tonight is going to be one of the strongest national finals of the season! Can’t wait!

3. “Why?” Aurea 15 (8,7)
4. “Como É Bom Esperar Alguém” FF 14 (12,2)
5. “Dégrá.Dê” Pongo & Tristany 13 (5,8)
6. “Ainda Nos Temos” Syro 12 (7,5)
7. “Fome De Viagem” Inês Homem De Melo 9 (3,6)
8. “Corpo De Mulher” Milhanas 8 (4,4)

I actually have a feeling Maro will win the jury.
I also just noticed we actually do better at Eurovision when the Jury winner is selected. While everytime the televote winner or both jury/televote winner is selected, we flop. So weird.

the random downvotes. I was literally stating a fact lmao. You can look it up. This past decade everytime we sent a song that was chosen due to the public, we either flopped at the semis or ended last (2011,2014,2015,2018). Same with the both jury/televote winners (2012,2019).

2018 shouldn’t be counted. Diogo would have won televote.
2019 is the only recent case I guess.
2020 you would have done better with Barbara I think.
And 2021 you would have done equally good if not better with televote in the final with Neev.
We can’t know tho.

Thanks. Small little typo as I wrote this out in my notes app and changed my mind while writing the post. 10 televote points go to Pongo & Tristany, putting them in 3rd with 15 points, making Aurea 4th and FF 5th. Super duper sorry, it just looked like I sabotaged Amanhã for the sake of it.
