The participating artists of Eurovision 2022 aren’t the only ones who will showcase their talents this May. Word has it that the Eurovision 2022 hosts — Laura Pausini, Mika and Alessandro Cattelan — will all have their own moments to shine — as both opening acts and interval acts.
Speaking to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Mika said he won’t just be hosting.
“I will also perform and I am thinking of a provocative performance. It will be a surprise. Eurovision is not just a show, it is like an Expo but concentrated in a few days.”
Eurovision 2022 interval acts
On top of that, sources close to the production of the Eurovision Song Contest tell Wiwibloggs that hosts Laura Pausini and Mika will perform a duet during the interval of Semi-Final 2.
Unlike with Madonna at Eurovision 2019, both Laura and Mika remain at the top of their game and are able to wow vocally, as well as with their stage presence. This promises to be a big moment.
Semi-Final 2 will also see Alessandro have his own moment by opening the show. Our sources say he will face some sort of backstage chaos — perhaps in a dressing room — and will rely on humour and his fancy footwork to make it to the stage. They tell us it will “last about the length of a Eurovision song,” which we take to mean three minutes.
Laura — among the best-known Italian singers globally — will rightfully get another chance to shine. Our girl is said to be opening the grand final.
The EBU recently told Heads of Delegation that peace will be a huge theme of this year’s event — a timely and appropriate choice in light of the war in Ukraine. Given that the slogan is “The Sound of Beauty,” we imagine an opening act entitled “The Sound of Peace.”
During the interval, Eurovision 2021 winners Måneskin will reprise their entry, while Mika will deliver the performance he hinted at with La Repubbclica.
For years he’s been asked about Eurovision and whether he’d ever considered competing. He made it clear that he holds the show in high esteem, so surely this will be a special moment for him too.
“I don’t know, it never happened. But there are some things about Eurovision that I really liked. In England it has always been a sacred evening, first with the family, then in the pub with too many beers.”
What do you think about the opening and interval acts? And do you have any clues about Semi-Final 1? Let us know in the comments box below.
I’d quite like to see Emma Marrone. She didn’t bring her best song or performance to Eurovision in 2014 and I think she deserves an opportunity to showcase her voice with a medley of her hit songs before the Eurovision audience.
Oh yeeees. I would love to see Emma Marrone (kisses from France btw). Her song at the San Remo Festival 2022, conducted by Francesca Michielin, was beyond beautiful. Just add “La rappresentante di lista” in the interval and that would be a memorable italian ESC night!
I like that for eurofans there should be tens of italian singers on the eurostage performing in only 3 interval acts. There will not be enough time. Additionally, I also like those who claim any singer, who is not even connected to the Eurovision, like La Rappresentante di Lista, should be on that stage. Italy has thousands of singers. Why don’t have them all on the stage, too? Ot’s our italian Eurovision and RAI will choose who will be on that stage. And, sorry, La Rappresentante di Lista has nothing to do with the Eurovision. There are other singers, related… Read more »
“Additionally, I also like those who claim any singer, who is not even connected to the Eurovision, like La Rappresentante di Lista, should be on that stage”. Well, well well… breath in, breath out, calm down and it’s going to be fine. By the way, have you ever heard of the expression “wishful thinking”? That was just that.
I am that hopeful who would love to see Diodato being invited to sing “Fai Rumore” :’)
Your will has been listened and it became reality today.
I hope Mika and Laura will do something truly Italian, and not a “Mansetra Zelmede” type of interval 😉
Don’t get me wrong. I loved what Petra and Mons did in Stockholm. However, I would love to see something different and very Italian this year!
I hope that this year the global audience will increase noticeably, especially Latin America who loves Laura Pausini and Mika very much. There will be millions and millions of new viewers from this part of the world.
I hope there will be a tribue to the legend Raffaella Carrà, our beloved and unfortotten Queen, during the Grand Final, sung by her friend Laura.
tribute*
They did that wonderfully at Sanremo, for Italian audiences. I think that’s enough. Not because she doesn’t deserve more, but just because most of the viewers for Torino won’t appreciate her.
I beg your pardon, but I disagree. I think you are not Italian, because you don’t know how much Raffaella has done for the return of Eurovision in Italy, in Rai. She has invited several eurovision singers in her show Carràmba che sorpresa in 2008, when no one in italy was interested in eurovision. She was the only one that promoted and supported the ESC. When Rai resumed broadcasting Eurovision in 2011, they immediately thought of her to comment on it. Last year the director of Rai1 had thought of proposing to Raffaella the hosting of Torino2022. Then unfortunately what… Read more »
Yeah, I do know that. That’s why I said the Sanremo one was enough – Italian audiences have already seen it, Torino would just be doing it twice. Most viewers outside of Italy will not know about what you have said.
Something small, maybe, like Vienna 2015 did for Austria’s first winner – or even performers doing one of her songs without it being about Raffaella. Nothing like that has happened before, and there were plenty of people who deserved it.
It’s okay for people to disagree. Ciao.
Can we have Toto Cutugno shouting Allora for 5 minutes. That would be a interval act worth waiting for
I hope he’s not even in the audience, he’d find some way to get up on the stage to start asking the contestants stupid questions just before they sing.
I’ll be disappointed if he’s not there in some capacity.
……and the winner of the ASC will be the interval act of the Grand Final.
This is crazy, because it seems Måneskin will not perform in the ASC Final, even though american fans love them and it may be a blast to the weak audience. So i don’t understand why the winner of ASC should be on ESC stage. ASC final is the 9th of may. First semifinal of ESC will be 10th of may. Probably Måneskin will open the first semifinal, too, more than having an interval act in the final. So it is difficult, but not impossible, for them to be in Los Angeles around 9pm PST of the 9th of may and… Read more »
Can’t wait to see Laura. Mika, no.
Off topic : Sergey is named “enemy of the people”. Stay strong, soon times will change.
I hope there’s more… I would like to hear a lot of past ESC italian entries and also Sanremo winners that didn’t make it in Eurovision during the long 1998-2010 break
If they actually showcase some of the SR winners that didn’t have the chance to go to Eurovision, then the 2007 winner, Simone Cristicchi, should really be the first name on that list. Would have easily made for a worthy ESC winner as well.
Only two songs that won Sanremo actually represented Italy in the thirty years between 1967 and 1997, though.
Knew that the winning songs didn’t always also go to ESC, but never realized the actual number was that low… I guess they still had that option available tho, unlike the one just mentioned above? Anyway, great to see them being rewarded for their attitude change from the last few years, Italy has been by far my favorite country since their return.
Hate Mika
Haters gonna hate. They feed on hate and they are going to be ploughed under their hate.
Mika helped raise money for those affected by the explosion in Beirut’s port that killed hundreds, injured thousands and left many more homeless. He sounds bloody fantastic to me.
They plan to do it San Remo syle!! Gonna be epic, cannot wait for it!! Whoah!
Why’s there a video for Linus tech tips at the end of the article though are they sponsoring ;D
Ah, well. Love to hear that Laura will be performing, but I didn’t enjoy Mika’s part in their performance at Sanremo, so all I can do is hope that he’ll improve on that for the Eurovision stage.
(I also hope he brushes up on his acting skills, since if he hates the show as much as he’s previously indicated, it’ll take a lot more than a poorly faked smile to get past that attitude seeping through! It’s a shame, but I’m sure that I’ll enjoy the contest in the end, regardless.)
The longest interval in history. All the possible interval acts included as well as Madonna squeezed in. I don’t know about others but I am way to excited about the impending voting sequence to fully enjoy the interval and I don’t know why it’s becoming so long. I mean the organisers have an extra 30 minutes now with the jury vote announcement to handle technical issues so there isn’t an excuse
Ikr. I’ve been saying same thing back when ESC was in Israel but i got downvoted to the hell by people here who couldn’t decide whether i don’t love him because i’m homophobic or antisemitic. No other possibility
Mika promising a ‘provocative’ performance … so is he going to tell all the contestants to their faces they are utter sh*t?
Mika said negative things about Eurovision, even live on live TV and now he suddenly likes it. Why no shade on such a twisted behavior?
Mika is correct when he said there has been some crap entries in the contest? Are fans of the show not allowed to critique it?
It’s not like he was objective. He literally called all of them terrible. He’s just nothing but an obnoxious douchebag.
Time to face the truth:
https://wiwibloggs.com/2015/06/12/mika-eurovision-bbc/98012/
He’s not saying that some are bad. He said all of them are. To the point he said he feels like bringing “good” song (his song, in his mind) is against the rules. He literally shat on every single ESC artist. There’s no protecting that
If you watched ESC during the naughties you would also think it was crap. Which it was..
Point is to not have grudges. Salvador Sobral couldnt stop talking trash about the contest after he won it, yet appeared in the movie about it.
No need to start about Salvador Sobral. Also, he apologized meanwhile.
Mika last called the whole of Eurovision trash in 2015. So even if he only referred to that single year (which he wasn’t), he’d still have called Mans Zelmerlöw, Il Volo, Loic Nottet, Aminata and many more ‘terrible’.
Well … who does he think he is? For the vast majority, is his only claim to fame was ‘Grace Kelly’ 15 years ago. To this day one the most if not the most annoying song of all time.
Mika actually was referring to toxic Eurovision fans like you, when he was talking about that.
Ah and regarding his fame. He was actually awarded by EBU in 2017 for his own tv show (awarded best European show), so not 15 years ago. I think Eurovision doesn’t need toxic fans like you.
No, he wasn’t. He was asked if he’d be willing to participate and he basically proclaimed, good music simply wasn’t allowed at Eurovision. He never even lost a word about the fans whatsoever. It’s cute how you defend anything that even remotely has anything to do with Italy. But Mika still is nothing but a dipsh*t. And deep inside, you know it, too. As for his TV show: Who the f**k outside Italy even knows it? And furthermore: Who the f**k even cares? Being big solely in Italy is like being big in any other European country (one at a… Read more »
It was mid 2015. Would you say that every single song in ESC (at least pre 2016) was bad? He did. He’s either ignorant or arrogant. Or both
Shade on what exactly? That there has been crap entries in the contest? Most fans would agree so not sure what they would gain
There’s difference between “there are some crap entries” and “everything is crap”. And he’s never even apologised or anything close to this. There’s no way to defend him
Now he’s getting paid
Well, he obviously knows it will give him valuable exposure, I can’t say that I hear much of him these days, my 16 year old niece who loves ESC said she’d never heard of him. I liked his music back in the day but it seems like a lifetime since I’ve heard any new material from him.
I feel uneasy that he has such a big role, after having said what he did.
« Unlike with Madonna at Eurovision 2019, both Laura and Mika remain at the top of their game and are able to wow vocally, as well as with their stage presence. This promises to be a big moment. » Wtf?
Edit: responded to wrong comment
We love some wiwishade
I hope whatever Laura sings at the start of the final will be in Italian. I’ll like it whatever it is, but she just does not sound natural in English – almost as if she does not understand a word she is singing.
This opinion is based solely on that one ABBA song she sang at Sanremo, to be fair.
So It’s going to be like Jerusalem 1999?
It’s more the political message for me.
More screen time to Måneskin to fire up the stage! We’ll get enough sleep afterwards during the ballads!
Yeeeeahh – but not in a good way.
I hope the contest doesn’t become too politicised.
Loving the Madonna shade. XD
It’s great that Italy is able to announce all this and still give no news about tickets 🙂
EBU, not Italy
If EBU wants to stick to a non Political contest then Peace is not a good theme. But i guess the rainbowcoloured Pace flags Will have everywhere.
????p????a????c????e????
My suggestion would be to leave Ukraine out of competition and only have them to perform in order to receive a massive applause from the audience but let not war rule the contest.??
After 2 years of Covid Eurovision needs something to celebrate together. Where Ukraine is welcome and in future also Russian artists.????
So, Europe is threatened to be obliterated by a mad man, thousand of innocent European people are now killed and Eurovision should stay silent about it? You are cynical and actually you have zero understanding about the real meaning of Eurovision.
Ukraine is being bombed and civilians are literally being killed. I think if the contest wants to say “guys please have peace”, they can do that and it is justified. Also if Ukraine wins, so what? At the end of the day, Eurovision is a fun song competition and nothing more.
That’s just not true. Stop demeaning the importance of music. 22 millionaire men can run around a field kicking a little ball for ninety minutes and they are revered as Gods. Culture and art is more than just fun, a lot more.
At the end of the day, soccer/football is just a bunch of men kicking a ball. I’m not saying one is better than the other, i’m just saying in the grand scheme of things, neither one are as important as human lives
Of course human lives are important but there is no need to demote ESC as just fun. Culture and music is important especially during troubled times. For some countries ESC is far more important than say EU because it is a simple way of telling that you exist.
If you feel that way towards Eurovision than you shouldnt be supporting it.
I hope for “Viveme” or even her version of “Due”.
Tickets, when?
May 15 😀
I mean…okay? I was expecting Italy to source one of their amazing artists and put on a show during the interval (like how Davina did last year with the Power of Water, and it was amazing).
They already have two amazing artists hosting and two amazing artists representing them, so no need 🙂
