Australia's Sheldon Riley confirmed for London Eurovision Party 2022

London Eurovision Party 2022

The London Eurovision Party will take place on Sunday 3 April.

The long-running Eurovision promotional event returns after a two-year hiatus to celebrate the stars of Eurovision 2022. As ever, contestants from the current edition of the song contest, along with some surprises from yesteryear, will travel to the British capital from around the continent to showcase their songs in front of international media and some of the contest’s biggest fans.

This year’s event will take place inside the glamorous Hard Rock Hotel — just steps away from Hyde Park.

Australia’s Sheldon Riley is the latest act confirmed to appear at the long-running British warm-up show. Hosted by Eurovision alumnus SuRie and radio presenter Paddy O’Connell, the greats of Eurovision past and present will converge in what promises to be an unforgettable night of celebration.

Do we have any idea about who is doing his staging? I remember at this point Kate was already organising a go fund me to fund her staging and she was signed to a major label. This guy is independent I’m a little worried.

Honestly it sounds so exhausting to take such a long trip for some performances. Hopefully it doesn’t affect his performances in May

I still remember Jess Mauboy running around in Europe and have no clue at all what her staging would be in Lisbon. It turned out badly. Hopefully the same doesn’t happen to Sheldon. Perhaps it would be better to preserve your strength…

Hes already said plans are well underway for his new staging. I’m sure he’s already rehearsing, and people will still be working on it while he’s away. Professionals travel to Australia all the time at the last minute so one trip ain’t going to upset his whole performance. One could even argue he’s at a disadvantage if he doesn’t go, not being able to promote his song like so many others. We’ve seen him perform, he’ll be more than fine.

I have faith in Sheldon, absolute. I’m just traumatized after the mess that was 2018 lol

Yeah but that wasn’t a staging problem. That was what was planned in the first place. Jess Mauboy is better than that, and so is Australia. Just a bad song and concept. Australia is known how to stage and they will do it with sheldon. He will qualify, but even if he doesn’t Australia knows how to bring the package (except for 2018 lol)

Happy to see Sheldon gets to hang with the other contestants. Especially in Israel since that’s a 4-day trip. He’s really into Eurovision.

On a semi-related note, Jeremie Makiese announced he’ll be performing in Madrid, Amsterdam, and London, while including the dates of both the semi-final he’s competing in…and the grand final, which he doesn’t automatically qualify for. Respect that level of confidence that he assumes including that date will be necessary anyway! (And for what it’s worth, I feel like Belgium’s probably going to qualify, so while that may seem a tad presumptuous, I won’t call it unwarranted either. If Bulgaria or Malta tried to pull that move, I dunno…)

I think both semis are quite tough. I have an easier time singling out at least two I think are lower than the rest (Malta and Azerbaijan, and even then I could see someone convincing me they had something there), but in both semis I know not every song I enjoy is going through. Belgium’s not one of them (I’d wager they, Sweden, Poland, and Finland are going in with nothing to worry about. I also have a good feeling about San Marino, but it feels like I get laughed at every time I try and say so, so I’m… Read more »

(Just saying, I f***ng called it on Say Na Na Na and that was a song with way less going for it from the outset than Stripper, which has a singer that we know can perform well live and a sound that’s been known to do well at Eurovision. Just saying.)

I’m also ready to be surprised, as there hasn’t been a single year where a pre-contest favorite of mine hasn’t crashed out in the semis (last year was Amnesia, Maps, and – more brutally than any of the rest – Omaga), nor has there been a year where a song I barely thought about beforehand wound up taking the contest by storm (Proud, Shum, Nobody but You, Fuego).

Not at all, sadly. Omaga flopping was a foregone conclusion after that performance. Saved me from being wrong about Serbia.

Serhat was in an easier semi while Achille is in a death semi so that’s why I think Achille doesn’t have much chance.

Serhat was a blip on people’s radar even when it was deemed the “easier semi.” Most people expected Poland, Portugal, or Belgium to make it over him.

And there hasn’t been a single death semi where the “obvious” countries advanced. Look at 2018. Who’d have called countries like Albania, Finland, Lithuania, or Ireland advancing over Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, and Greece?

2021’s death semi had 11 songs competing for 10 slots. The other 5 NQ’s were obvious after the rehearsals. Greece & Belgium flopped live and Azerbaijan and Armenia were both overestimated by most people (Probably cus of their Q record)

SF2 is very unpredicabl, escpetially pre-rehearsals. We shall see who will survive! I am personally very excited! : )

The rehearsals are in 2 weeks right? or 3? 4?

i can even see Georgia having more of a chance in the televotes than Achille, i mean whereas Achille’s song is kinda of a mess, Georgia’s even though it sounds demo-ish, i quite find it really catchy, nice indie representation, reminds me of early 00’s fifa music too
