The circus is officially in town. After delaying the premiere, Georgia’s Circus Mircus have now shared the official music video for their Eurovision 2022 song “Lock Me In”.
The video features the minstrel who we were first introduced to when the mysterious group were revealed as Georgia’s act for Eurovision 2022.
He’s joined by four other circus performers. However, he also appears to be spreading the joy of Circus Mircus across the entire globe and has video tape recordings of many people singing along to “Lock Me In”.
There’s no clear view of Circus Mircus themselves. We can only see silhouettes of the group being projected onto a wall.
Circus Mircus – “Lock Me In” (Official Music Video)
The music video for “Lock Me In” was supposed to premiere at the same as the song release, but the plan was changed due to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Circus Mircus wrote at the time:
“Due to the war in Ukraine, we feel that it is not the right time to release our happy and colourful music video. As per ESC guidelines, the submission deadline is near, so we decided to release only audio, while using the black background instead of the official music video footage, to express our share of solidarity towards our Ukrainian sisters and brothers.”
“We hope to post our music video in the near future, when these terrible events are over and our societies start getting back to normal.“
Circus Mircus say they are a movement that brings together dozens of professionals from different fields to create an unprecedented audio-visual experience. The cornerstone of their philosophy lies in the complete neglect of musical frameworks. The group note:
“Every singer or band has musical frames – a specific genre to which they are devoted. But we released, on some days we may be in mood for rock, French pop, or even music for a weather forecast. The visual side is as important to us, as the audio one. And most importantly, they are equally diverse.”
Circus Mircus’s stage performance at Eurovision 2022 will be directed by Emilia Sandquist. She is an international creative who has created successful performances in the past for Swedish artists at Melodifestivalen. She is also a member of the Jean Baptiste Group.
What do you think of the “Lock Me In” music video”? Are you excited to see if Circus Mircus use similar themes on stage at Eurovision 2022? Let us know in the comments below.
Really excited about this live !
I’m rooting for Georgia. Perhaps they will not win but I can see them being the breakthrough that achieves a better result than people expect.
I like it. Hope they will Advance to the Finals!
When I first heard this song I didn’t get it at all – but then it grew on me, more than any other song. I just hope the performance will a spectacle just like this video.
No, the song is not brilliant, but now, together with the video, it has more sense. If only they could transfer the atmosphere from the video to the stage in Torino.
Surprised how much I actually like this song, I know it might not qualify etc etc and I’ll probably get downvoted for saying I like it, but I actually do. It’s fun, it’s catchy. Will it win? No, should it win? No, but am I glad it’s there? Hell yeah!
The song takes me back to mid-00s NME TV music channel with indie-tronica type bands like MGMT, Hurts, Friendly Fires etc etc which was right up my street back then and fills me with much joy now.
You, sir, have great taste.
Haha thank you thank you, much appreciated
TF!? MGMT? Hurts? Friendly Fires? what song did you listened? Circus is more fitting of JESC or a song taught to get familiar with prepositions than a real song… I get that you like it, just don’t compare it to actual music.
It is actual music!
MGMT! There’s a name I never thought I’d see mentioned here. Time to Pretend is one of my favorite songs of all time and I totally see where you’d hear that here.
Time to Pretend! That’s my youth calling out to me right there!
Definitely get that vibe from Circus Mircus
Brilliant. The song, the video and also their explanation.
No one can be sure with these kind of acts but it’s very possible that Georgia can surprise us all and qualify for the final! And I can’t say I would be disappointed by such a scenario!
This song is amazing! So great that Georgia selected these guys. Even if others won’t get it, this song can only make Georgians proud of their country
Which other ESC acts mention themselves in the lyrics?
I can think of these
FYROM 2013 Esma
Germany 1998 Guildo
Iceland 2006 Silvia Night
Belgium 2009 Copycat
Belgium 2010 Tom (Dice)
Oh that’s an interesting thought actually. Acts don’t often mention themselves in their entries.
Off the top of my head I can only think of a national finalist, Pauline Chagne in the France final.
Hurricane name dropped themselves in the start of their song if that counts.
Jenifer Brening (Jenny B) also name dropped herself
Lea Sirk said her first name in Hvala Ne!
I never knew ???
Moje ime je Lea in za vas imam nov lik
My name is Lea and I have new look for you
I think this is the most accurate translation of the first sentence of Hvala, ne!.
You can also count Slovenia‘s LPS from this year (second line of the first verse).
And one of my favorites this year too ?
Not adult Eurovision but there’s Levon from JESC
Also I believe the country is called North Macedonia now
Yes that is true
Also Dustin the Turkey (Ireland 2008). Not by the name of Dustin, but he mentions himself as Turkey.
Igranka for Montenegro in 2013.
Lake Malawi went for it too, but only live.
Benny Cristo did in the intro of Kemama in the year of the cancelled contest
Anyone say Dschinghis Khan yet?
Germany 2019 S!sters
Ukraine 2007 Verka Serduchka (Hello everybody, my name is Verka Serduchka!)
Contender for last place together with Serbia and Israel in semi.
You must be fun at parties
I don’t understand why someone would click an article on a song they don’t like and bother to take time out of their day to comment they are a contender to last place.
I truly believe some sérotonine is produced in the brain of some people when they spit their poisonous saliva all over the internet. That’s the only thing that makes me understand haters.
Well said Nicomro.
I can tell you’re the life of the party
Doesn’t matter if it qualifies or not, this kind of creative madness is what Eurovision needs, and I strongly suspect that the performance will be a colourful blast. Love you Mircus ??????
Georgia are on another level this year. Eurovision could use some Frank Zappa/Cake-esque insanity. This is a song that defies predictions. It’ll either make it to the final or absolutely brick in the semis, no in-between, but no matter how it finishes, I love it.
NGL I think it will finish 17th or 18th in the semi but I don’t give a damn. I love it! Despite the fact I don’t think they can advance, I will vote for them anyway!
If Georgia somehow qualifies I will be so incredibly happy!
I’d rather a country fall flat on their face taking a risk than flop by just sending the same old crap.
It could go either way. If the live performance is fun, it will get votes. Regular people like to have fun.
Totally understand your point. I don’t why but it also reminds me Frank Zappa!
It’s the herky-jerky riffs in the verses
Lock me up. Lock me down. Lock me in. Lock me out. Lock me sidewaaaaaaaaayyyysss
