Music and geography combine together in Eurovision. Fans get to experience a wide breadth of musical genres from each region of Europe. One such little combination is the nations of the former Yugoslavia, five of which are set to compete at Eurovision 2022 — SloveniaNorth MacedoniaMontenegro, Serbia, and Croatia.

Even though Yugoslavia split 30 years ago, the region shares a rich history and culture that defines both its placing in the world and on the Eurovision stage.

Now, we want to know which Eurovision 2022 song from the region is your favourite. You can remind yourself of all five entries below. Then be sure to vote in our poll.

Scroll down to vote in our poll.

Countries of former Yugoslavia at Eurovision 2022

Croatia: Mia Dimšić – ” Guilty Pleasure”

This year’s Croatian entry was chosen through the selection process Dora 2022. “Guilty Pleasure” is a soft folk-pop song sung by the guitar-playing Mia Dimšić. At Dora, she was accompanied by an interpretive dancer on stage. Is Croatia’s entry your guilty pleasure or a real genuine pleasure?

Montenegro: Vladana – “Breathe”

After being absent for the last two years, Montenegro is back. Vladana was internally selected as the Montenegrin representative with the song “Breathe”, a powerful and dramatic ballad inspired by a difficult ordeal her family endured in 2021. Do you lose your breath in awe of Vladana’s song?

North Macedonia: Andrea – “Circles”

The North Macedonian entry was chosen through the selection process Za Evrosong 2022, the country’s first national final since 2015. After a tie for first place, it was Andrea with “Circles” who snatched the crown. Does “Circles” make you dance in circles of joy?

Serbia: Konstrakta – “In corpore sano”

Serbians chose their entry through the new national selection Pesma za Evroviziju 2022. After a very exciting voting procedure, it was the enigmatic Konstrakta with “In corpore sano” who took first place. This will be the first time in Eurovision history that Latin will be sung on the big stage.

Slovenia: LPS – “Disko”

The Slovenian entry was chosen through the national selection EMA 2022. This year Slovenia were in a retro mood and ready to put on their dancing shoes, as it was the modern disco-funk song “Disko”, performed by LPS, that took the trophy. Are you also in the mood for some funky disco?

Poll: Which country of the former Yugoslavia has the best song at Eurovision 2022?

As always, you can vote for as many acts as you want, but you can only vote once.

Which entry is your favourite? Can any of the former Yugoslavia nations win Eurovision 2022 in May? Let us know in the comments.

Unpopular opinion:
– Best one is Montenegro’s with Slovenia getting a close second spot… Those two are utterly underrated by ESC fans sadly.
– North Macedonia is also very underrated. good vocals, I just wish the lyrics would go further.
– Serbia is waaaaay to hyped.
– Croatia is just plain

“In Corpore Sano” is completely unique, so I understand why that’s winning this poll.
P.S. “Circles” is underrated.

Serbia is in all-time great territory, just on a different level compared to this bunch and easily one of the best entries of the entire year. Slovenia is decent, the other three I don’t really care about. Croatia and Slovenia could have actually joined Serbia in forming a quite strong ex-Yugo top 3 with Marko Bosnjak and LUMA, but it is what it is, unfortunately…

None are brilliant, but I have gone for the best of a bad bunch and that’s Croatia. I think without the dancer the song is actually quite pleasant. Slovenia is really bland and nothing like a disco song. The lead singer looks like a rabbit in the headlights and better placed to sing in the junior version. Serbia is incredibly overrated and outside the bubble will not be appreciated. North Macedonia has a singer who looks like she would thump you for no good reason. Sorry but Montenegro is also nondescript.

Serbia is my favorite by far. Can’t stand Montenegro (especially after that hot mess of a performance in Barcelona). I kinda like Croatia but only the Croatian version (because it makes the song sound a bit less Willow-y). Hated Slovenia when it came out but the song and its out-of-tune singer slowly grew on me. North Macedonia is good but too bland to be memorable.

It’s very possible that this will the second year in a row with Serbia being the only Ex-YU country in the grand final.

1. Serbia
2. Montenegro
3. Croatia

If “Disko” was sung by Tatanka, then it would be true. You are forgetting that some important keys of “Love is on my side”‘s success were, first of all, its special backstory every broadcaster’s commenter felt compelled to tell, but especially Tatanka’s flawless vocals, strong stage charisma and plain handsomeness and male charm, after all. The Slovenian boy from this year lacks all of these, unfourtunately. As much as I love the studio version of Disko, visually it’s just isn’t there. I really can’t see it qualifying.

I feel like people are underrating Croatia for two reasons: 1- They have been doing so badly recently, 2- That male dancer is so distracting. However, the song has a “Tom Dice” or “Nicole” quality written all over it. It will be a real jury bait. With a few high televotes from neighbors, it will do really well. I also think Slovenia will do well with at least a few juries, and those adorable high schoolers will also pick some W/T/S (Women- Teenagers- Seniors) televotes. Serbia will smash it with televotes, but not with juries. Still, it can pull a… Read more »

You’re wrong about prediction for a low jury result for Serbia. You can’t compare it to Poland 2014 nor with Denmark 2018, because those 2 songs had nothing artistic about them, nothing jaw-dropping about them like Serbia has. Jury quality about In Corpore Sano is so huge I can’t see it out of top 10 in the final.

Every year it strikes me what’s the purpose of this poll. It is so ridiculous and makes no sense. I guess the only reason of creating a poll to vote for a favourite country of a former country is just to increase a total number of polls. And yet there is no such poll created for former USRR countries which would have much more options to choose from. If Slovakia were to participate again would you create a poll ‘Which country of the former Czechoslovakia has the best song at Eurovision 2022?’

Quite a silly comment you’ve made.

“Balkan countries” still exist as a group, same as Baltic countries, Nordic countries, Central Europe etc. It is geographical grouping of countries, so why not?

You can’t compare it to former USSR, because that’s political group of countries.

It’s a polarizing entry, for sure. I know people who say it’s one of the worst ones ever, and those saying it’s absolutely brilliant. Songs like that tend to do well in a song contest. It’s probably not winning, but let’s not be surprised if it does REALLY well (8th-15th place).

My winner here is Serbia. It has a daring entry with layered lyrics, creative music, and offbeat staging. It’s a song that creates a marmite effect, and in this case, it works for me. Slovenia, Croatia, and Montenegro all have elements I really like, but also things I’m still assessing within the long line-up of songs I placed in the middle section of my list so far. I think that I like Slovenia the most out of them because it’s cute and feels very authentic.
