The American Song Contest rolled into its third week, with 12 acts competing in heat three.
They were all aiming to earn a spot in the semi-finals on behalf of their state or territory.
The first act to make it through after the jury vote was Tyler Braden from Tennessee.

Ive made my piece with the fact that the jury have no idea what good music is — yaaaaawn
Juries are overrating the country songs.
If Wikipedia is right, and they got the jury results right, then the top 6 from the jury are TN, FL, AL, TX, NJ and CO. With TN locked in, that leaves 3 spots for the remaining 5. Anyone ranked lower than 6th is not likely to qualify here, because in the last 2 weeks, the contender who was 5th on the jury scorecard qualified.
You can blame Warner Music for this desaster. All participants were obliged to sign a deal with Atlantic Records, a subdivision of Warner Music. There are no participants of other record companies (like Universal Music and its numerous subdivisions) or Sony Music or any of the numerous independent record labels allowed at this show. At Eurovision instead there is a large variety of record companies participating. At Eurovision locally or even internationally well known und currently successful acts are participating. At ASC none of this is the case. All acts at ASC are either absolutely unknown nobodies or out of… Read more »
The jury picks are quite aweful and boring so far… So many good pop songs, and they choose the ballads… Male sung ballads. Its like they only have one type of taste…
Mr. Independent is BOP! Best song so faaaaar
Heat 3 | Top 3:
Texas, Florida, Alaska.
Jury Qualifier: Tennessee was to bland and mediocre. The guy can sing, – but it sounded to generic and monotone. The melody is equally boring.
We are going through the same “Jury” voting confusions like Eurovision does every year. Juries can be helpful and damaging at the same time. Deal with it.
The final will be epic!
Too many lip-synch songs but most of them aren’t through to the semifinals…
I can’t believe they eliminated New York, Enisa needs to be one of the two wildcards for the semi-final!
Goodbye, Macy Gray.
And it looks like Jewel is going to join her; 9th on the jury scorecard this week. She would need to win the public vote BIG, because none worse than 5th on the jury scorecard has managed to qualify.
From the looks of things, I think Michael Bolton may be the only one of the 5 major veterans to qualify. I would expect, though, that the Crystal Method may surprise us.
I liked Week 3 better than the other two weeks. The songs are getting better. Can’t wait for more West coast states like California, Washington, Idaho, and territory Guam.
And DC!
…So…viewership unfortunately had a small decrease. 1.6 mil this week compared to last week’s 1.88 ….the ratings stayed pretty much the same though.
I hope things pick up at the semis, because the show I feel is increasing in quality by the episode so it’s a shame viewership is doing the opposite.
Glad American FLOP contest is tanking. I wish it’s not the lowest rating to come.
I agree it has been improving. Pretty sure it will finish the full season run. Only 2 more heats, then semis, then final.
I heard there was a storm that knocked out some cables.
The rating could have stagnated if it weren’t for that.
people need to stop blaming Americans as a whole for the results sucking. American viewers are just as frustrated right now as the eurovision fans watching lol. I haven’t actually seen anyone say tennessee deserved that jury win lmao. Everyone I’ve seen online has been saying states like Texas, Delaware, or Alaska deserve it more? I don’t know why you think 56 jury members reflect this nation’s taste more than the millions of people who tune in to watch. No the US juries are just as out of touch as the ESC ones if anything. Though you can’t argue we… Read more »
It’s actually been getting better after the lackluster premiere. Most of the entries last night were decent. There were a few that stood out to me: Florida had a different sound to it. I liked Alaska because it gave me Eurovision vibes (a feeling I haven’t experienced yet in ASC). Delaware was by far the best…very powerful vocals and an energetic song. Northern Marianas – you know how some entries have the misfortune to go after an awesome song? That’s what we have here. The representative wasn’t bad at all…it was just forgettable because it went after Delaware. I remember… Read more »
The juries seem to have a very particular taste, smaller states, slow songs, and male singers. I’m not sur I like this, it’s going to be very predictable, change the juries who are voting between rounds, or reduce their power.
I assume you are insinuating the WGWG thing trying to creep back into the picture, the very thing that slowly bled American Idol to death on FOX, no?
My thoughts on this heat: • New York > Montana. Enisa deserved better. • Happy that Kansas and North Dakota qualifed to the semi-finals. • Texas: should have won jury vote. The performance was amazing and Grant really sold that staging. If he doesn’t qualify, we riot. • Louisiana: an underrated gem that should have landed higher. If this song represented the UK in Eurovision, it would have ended up top 5. The most Eurovision-worthy performance of the night. • Tennessee: Vocally he was good, but there were better performances from the night that were more deserving. • New Jersey:… Read more »

I agree.
The Juries are killing this contest before it can even walk.
To get an automatic qualifier, 50-50 say in the 3 other qualifiers and the ability to kill an entry by ranking it last or 2nd to last, they have far far far too much power.
the three jury qualifiers so far have all been terrible !
Rhose Island was amazing. Tennessee and Kentucky were decent.
OK, Americans really don’t get it.This is becoming American Country Song Contest. It’s unbelievable who qualified and who didn’t. Juries putting a bland boring white dude singing a bland country song through 3 times (!!!) in a row. And it will probably happen in Week 4 and 5 as well. The viewers at home are also either all country-loving Southerners or they think that they’re watching some sort of Voice or American Idol. New Boot Goofin and Million Dollar Smoothies not qualifying futhermore proves that people think this is a talent show for singers and not a spectacle/performance show. Macy… Read more »
Country music is to the US as Balkan ballads are to the Balkans.
Macy Gray the ‘biggest star’ of the contest lol? Are you aware Michael Bolton is also around?
MY FAVORITE FROM HEAT 2, NORTH DAKOTA, IS THROUGH AJFKKHAHSJAHSHDJSX!
Here link for the full show- https://streamtape.com/v/BYV36W7jOySyAOg
Thank you!
I really don’t like Jewel’s song. It feels like Thomas G:sson was involved or somebody was trying to get it to sound as if he was…
I love South Carolina, 2010-2015 dance music is the best!
Colorado gave me Kizunguzungu vibes.
My favorite song was Alaska. Favorite performance was Texas. I surely hope that judges will stop picking a white male singer for their favorite. 3 out of 3 so far. States are bringing non stereotipical songs to the contest but judges votes are very traditional.
Not sure how to correct my typo. I meant stereotypical.
I don’t agree with Heat 2 or Heat 3 jury result. Tennessee and Kentucky shouldn’t have been the top. Both songs were super generic. I don’t need to hear them again in the semi finals.
Looks like the juries are just looking to whatever voice is the best. Hope the public vote notices emotions and overall entertainment as well
They totally should have this Q be the first one. Strong performances overall tonight
Colorado’s song sounds very familiar and I can’t put my finger on it. An okay song to end the show on. Don’t think it will move on.
North Marianas. Acoustic chill vibes, the simplicity is nice. Its refreshing even if the vocal was a bit soft/weak.
My favourite song in the contest so far. It stands out from the rest.
So obviously, it’ll come last.
Hello shoulder pads! Like the dark grungy vibes and she has a strong unique voice. Interestingly picked up and became more rock in the middle of the song. This performance intrigued me greatly.
South Dakota’s song sort of reminds me of like…Matchbox Twenty’s music, but only thier more recent stuff.
That cut away during South Dakota was awkward. Haven’t heard this genre in the competition so that is nice. Not a winner but good for them.
Okay Ray of Light ala Madonna. Giving me early 2000’s vibes. Not my favorite song of the night but I can appreciate.
South carolina’s staging is…a choice lol
This was a different Jewel then I expected, but she surely paid attention to the Eurovision. 😀 Guilty of liking this
That beginning gave my Taylor Swift Love Story vibes… then it started to take a turn towards ABBA… and I am so confused how to feel about this song…
Higher hopes for Jewel. Loved Who Will Save your soul and even liked her little excursion into pop with Intuition.
Only thing that stood out other than lack of vocal with Florida is the dancer who got to push and ride the shopping cart living my childhood dream.
don’t forget “big flirt” written on the men’s crotches lol 😉
And Back Track vocal prominence once again ala Florida.
There’s at least one person in each of these heats where it seams like the lead song is relying on the back track to sing the vocals. They they aren’t even trying to sing live. FLA was the offender from heat 3.
I appreciate Alabamas live vocals. It gets difficult to discern what sounds well done versus back track, and judging while comparing the those factors. Enjoyed the camera work- why did it seem so much smoother??
…I don’t think the people previously arguing that none of the singing is live have a leg to stand on anymore
I find it very unfair how states will be judged for studio vocal versus live vocal. Take Alabama for example- because ive been hearing so many studio back tracks instead of live vocals- I feel that Alabama sounded lovely but i could here some weakness in their vocals. Whereas New Jersey sounded… better?- but only because i heard the back track.
Alabama has some nice camera work
Not sure what the jury is thinking tonight- Don’t think Louisiana should be in the bottom with what all has been performed. And Tennessee in the top with generic usual country storytelling song? Think they might be Nashville biased.
New Jersey is probably my favorite of the night so far. I already had a feeling from the preview though.
I think New Jersey is the weakest link tonight as of right now. Though I think younger viewers who enjoy Olivia Rodrigo will like it.
I’m always super critical of country music because I feel it always sound so similar and tells the same stories. This gives me Eric Church Springsteen vibes but not as catchy. This guy has great vocals, think my favorite part would have to be the guitar solo… Personally just an okay country song.
…is it just me, or has the staging been getting increasingly expensive looking for each heat?
Louisiana giving Australia Sheldon Riley stage mask vibes. Appreciate the strong live vocals, the back track didn’t seem as noticeable? Think the states will give this entry votes.
That and definite Mardi Gras parade realness.
Find it fun that Texas didn’t send Country, This song is a fun little bop, pretty sure it will move on. Only negative is the stupid backing vocals which has been an incredibly infuriating issue for this entire competition.
And here we go with god awful backing tracks. Just let these people sing without it for the love of all things holy.
