Style may evolve, but that doesn’t mean the looks of yesterday are gone and forgotten. Far from it. As you can see on the Then & Now” page of the official Moroccanoil Eurovision siteit’s very possible to take style inspiration from the past while pushing a look forward today.

Building on this idea, Moroccanoil partnered with Wiwibloggs to challenge our readers to update a Eurovision look from yesterday. Your entries pushed the limits of creativity, resulting in some truly awe-inspiring (and occasionally LOL-inducing) looks. This wasn’t about replicating looks, but about playing on looks to create something fresh. As you can see in our winner’s roster below, this sometimes related to make-up and clothes, but sometimes to attitude and perspective. The brief was loose.

The nine winners below will each receive two tickets — one for themselves and one for a friend — to attend either Semi-Final 1, Semi-Final 2, or the Grand Final of Eurovision 2022.

Over the next 24 hours I will be contacting each of you via direct message on Instagram or TikTok to confirm that you can attend and to get some other details. Please check your messages tonight!

#WIWIGIVEAWAY: Eurovision 2022 grand final ticket winners

@esc_lover_poland updates “Slavic Girls”

Some may view it as “drag on a dime”. Others may see it as extreme creativity. Regardless of your vantage point, we can’t help but smile when we watch this Polish Eurovision fan giving life to Cleo & Donotan’s Eurovision 2014 entry “Slavic Girls”.

This entry completely fulfils the brief of updating a look. The outfit and persona are recognisable from the original in 2014. But this Eurofan has made the look more modern with sass, attitude, a Eurovision mug, a fluffy and fashion-forward white skirt and a red top with sweetheart neckline. It’s an A for effort and execution!

@adventurejussi’s tribute to Lordi

This is scary. But that’s the point. Jussi has gone all-out for his entry, using modern make-up to extraordinary effect to make Mr. Lordi look even more terrifying. This is mad. This is crazy. This makes no sense. And it perfectly sums up the years leading to 2022! This selection honours make-up artists everywhere for the incredible work they do.

@maxxyrainbow delivers 2022 “Diva”

Tackling an already iconic look can be super dangerous — especially when Dana International is the star behind said look. But Maxxy was definitely up for the challenge. Rather than recreating Dana’s signature black dress, Maxxy pulls it into today with a chic and well-fitting jumpsuit. The feathered jacket — which Dana wore during her winner’s encore — now looks larger and more bold. But what really won the day here was the make-up. It is sensitive to the original look but feels more contemporary and of-the-moment. This is how you slay.

#WIWIGIVEAWAY: Semi-Final Ticket Winners

The following six participants will each receive two tickets to a semi-final. I am contacting them individually to determine which semi-final they’ll attend. This is based on the rank order of their submission. So fourth place chooses first, followed by fifth place, followed by sixth place….

Marc turns it out with technology

WOW! TikTok user @marcnetherlands wowed us by recreating a series of looks from across the decades. Combining his social media skills with his knack for graphic design, he looks every inch the model as he works looks inspired by Athena Manoukian, Jedward, Michaela and more.

@eurovisionetherlands Styles inspired on several Eurovision Entries, do you recognize them all? 🇳🇱🇮🇪🇲🇹🇦🇲🇷🇺🇮🇱#wiwigiveaway #moroccanoil ♬ origineel geluid – Eurovision✨

Verka meets Colombian extravagance

There is so much personality and passion in this video — how could we refuse to give him tickets? The recreation of the original look is updated in its own way: How on earth did Guio make it even more sparkly? And then we have the 2022 interpretation, which looks like something you’d buy straight from the runway of Heidi Klum’s Amazon series Making the Cut. Well done, honey!

Alex gives Jordan’s 2005 look a much-needed update

Talk about a transformation! Alex took one of the most notorious UK national final looks and made it pleasantly presentable. Best of all she included step-by-step instructions…just in case you have a Eurovision party to go to and need some styling tips. We love that she utilised her own Pinterest mood board for the skirt and that she used Moroccanoil products for extra shine.

Sandra Kim approved this entry

Nixynanoo doesn’t just have our approval — she also got a like on Instagram from her fashion inspiration Sandra Kim! It’s well-deserved too. She captures the innocence and carefree spirit of Sandra’s 1986 look but definitely puts a modern spin on it with contemporary trousers and a lovely pussy bow scarf. The colour scheme is true to the original but it’s not too matchy-matchy. We particularly love her interpretation of the shoes — we prefer her take to the original, which hasn’t aged so well…

An ode to Agnetha

This entry really fulfils the brief. Rather than just recreating a look from the past, Instagram user @lizzabethjoy provides a clear twist on a look. The flares on Agnetha’s “Waterloo” trousers are very clearly mirrored in the folds on Lizzabeth’s dress. The addition of silver chains on her black leather belt give this a grittiness and edge that we adore!

Oriol celebrates diversity…and the banana

When creating my initial shortlist, I scrolled past this. At first glance there doesn’t seem to be much going on. But when I read Oriol’s thoughtful caption I soon realised the devil is most definitely in the detail. Oriol swapped out Agata’s rainbow dress for one that evokes the progress pride flag, a reinterpretation of multiple iterations of the pride flag to include, among others, marginalised people of colour within the LGBTQ+ community. The banana references Norway’s Subwoolfer — very 2022! — and there’s even the Torino stage shining in the background. Perhaps the best bit of all is the hand-on-belly moment. Oriol is full of life!

RUNNERS-UP

The following two entries have been selected as runners-up. In the event that any of the above winners cannot make it to Turin, their tickets will go to the following entrants — and in the order below.

These runners-up will each receive a special “Be An Original” kit courtesy of Moroccanoil to help them get their glam on for Eurovision.

First runner-up: A gallery of updated looks from Germany

This duo recreated a series of looks for their submission, including Jendrik’s now iconic Middle Finger. Rather than using flesh-coloured inflatables, they turned to cardboard. And honestly: What is more 2022 than having a bunch of Amazon delivery boxes lying around?! We also LOVED their interpretation of Go_A’s “SHUM”. The dancer in white with the light manages to make the futuristic look even more futuristic. Well done!

Second runner-up: Elin in Sweden

There’s beauty in simplicity — and Elin captures that well. We love how nonchalant she is in this series of videos. The looks are tidy and contemporary and she wears them with confidence. Special shout out for the Netflix movie reference!

Wow wish I made an effort to join this competition now. Seems it would of been easier to get a ticket this way than trying to buy through the ticket sale. Will get my think cap on for next year if it goes again.

Where is the Efendi, i think there is something wrong. Some winners are really reaaly bad. And some good contestants did not win! This is weird

The Efendi entry was fun. It did not “update” the look though. It was just a copy of the original look. This contest is Then versus Now

I love the thought put into some of these — like the ABBA blue dress one and the Pink Jordan Katie price update. It’s more “cerebral” than obvious. God job guys and gals!
