She’s the German-born Greek star singing for Cyprus at Eurovision 2022. And as Andromache told me via Zoom, she is most definitely excited to sing “Ela” on stage in Turin.

“It has a flow and I like this flow,” she says of the song. “Because it has the flow in the lyrics and in the music and in this feeling it gives you…you feel like someone is hugging you and you feel his hands everywhere. I have this feeling.”

The song has some intense lyrics: “When you lay your eyes on me, the rush is from above, it feels so heavenly, come and charge me up like electricity, my remedy…”

Cyprus: Andromache says “Ela” staging will only feature women

So what’s she talking about?

“I think I’m talking about love. The verses talk about the first look you have with somebody you really like and electricity comes in your body — everywhere — and you feel the butterflies in your stomach. That crazy feeling!”

“If it’s not talking about love at first sight, it’s surely talking about a love where I’m so in love with this guy. And every time I look at him and he looks at me I go crazy and my body can’t stand it.”

Her lavish music video conjures Bridgerton or Little Women and has won fans for its beautiful cinematography and lush scenery.

“I liked it so much because I felt like being in a fairytale or something. And I like just sitting there and just staring at the camera and singing. I like this feeling. I like this feeling a lot. I love the romantic aesthetic of all this…I like it because it gives me the same feelings the song gives me.”

One of our Instagram users was dying to know the secret to Andromache’s beautiful hair.

“The secret is maybe I don’t dye my hair. I try to take care of my hair. I am in love with my hair and I feel it’s part of my body — like a hand. I’m happy I have it, so I take care of it. I couldn’t imagine my life without it, so I’m happy that they asked. That’s the only tip I can give you.”

Will her music video influence her staging at Eurovision in any way?

“Maybe this feeling, this fairytale, this romantic thing — maybe only that. I want to give you something else too on stage. Why not?”

That something will not include men. She tells us plainly that this is a women-only affair!

She has her vision and she’s thrilled to collaborate on its execution with Austrian stage director Marvin Diettmann.

“He’s amazing. I told him, ‘You’re like an angel coming from the heavens — just giving us some light.’ He’s amazing. He has great ideas. He’s a really good guy. We feel very comfortable with him — me and the girls. It’s so important to feel good, to feel free, to talk about things you like and don’t like. We’re working great together.”

Her name means “Man battler” and she says she lives up to the reputation.

“I always fight for what I want and in the end I get it…I never give up…I want what I want and I know what it is. No man, no person can tell me what to do.”

She’s bringing that drive to Eurovision and knows exactly what she wants from the experience.

“I want to meet all these great artists. I want to se Turin. I can’t wait to sing on stage. I think it’s going to be a huge moment. Until now I don’t even know how huge it’s going to be. What I can expect is good memories — to take them home with me. That’s what I want.”

Andromache was born in Siegen, Germany and lived there until she was nine years old. She has only beautiful memories of the country. She says the German side of her has really helped with Eurovision.

“My Greek side has no programme, no organisation — I’m like floating in the sea, flying in the air. I’m like somewhere else. But the German side can do all this preparation for the contest and I didn’t know that I had this part in me. And I’m really happy that it exists somewhere.”
