Veteran rockers Intelligent Music Project are no strangers to a big stage, and it shows. Our first proper rock song of the semi-final, Ronnie Romero and co are playing the quiet (for now) PalaOlimpico like it’s Woodstock. The new stage visuals are more cohesive with the band’s classic sound than those we saw in the music video. We’ve got more neon lighting and geometric graphics, less children playing video games and doppelgänger women walking through fields. It’s good to see Eurovision legend Stoyan back at the drumkit doing what he does best. Plus, the first pyro of the day!

William: Bulgaria has improved a lot the staging makes this feel like a rock event. I still don’t like the song but I think it looks very, very nice. Love the pyro, they seem to have put some money and thought into this.
Jonathan: Bulgaria have brought the staging that I expected, they’ve got the pyro in there, all of them playing their instruments, the dome with speakers adds a nice touch. But those outfits are a bit basic, particularly compared to Måneskin’s glam rock last year.

The stage does not look very promising on this pic. It seems they are singing in a cave. And apparently public will be quite far from stage too.

This is what I was thinking would happen. They needed to lean into the whole “rock god” idea and they are. Pyro and special effects do not a qualifier guarantee, but this is like “Keep on Going” where it went from a song I barely thought about to a song I at least think a little bit about.
