Lithuania Monika Liu Sentimentai Eurovision 2022 first rehearsal
EBU / Nathan Reinds

Lithuania’s Monika Liu hit the stage in Turin today for Eurovision 2022 first rehearsals. The “Sentimentai” songstress performed her track in Italy for the first time, ahead of the big show in May. Did her spooky disco enchant us, or were we left unamused? Let’s see…

Lithuania’s Monika Liu “Sentimentai” — Eurovision 2022 first rehearsal

@eurovision Lithuania’s @MonikaLiuEurovision brought bags of class to Turin! 🇱🇹 Check out her first rehearsal on the #Eurovision2022 stage! #Eurovision #eurovisiontiktok ♬ original sound – Eurovision

Monika Liu is a seasoned professional. She knows how to deliver this song, and she’s not backtracking — the performance remains largely the same to the version we saw at Pabandom is Naujo, hair and sequin gown included. It’s our first solo performance of the semi-final, with no backing dancers or visible backing vocalists. According to Eurovision insiders, Monika is also the first to make use of the waterfall, with a camera shot that sweeps up through the water to show Monika’s shimmering dress in its full glory. Cleansed, hydrated, and ready to slay the day.

Our wiwibloggers said…

William: I think Monika Liu did a really good job of using the digital selfie. It’s overdone at Eurovision but her’s looked really chic. I like how it put her in the frame, the focus should be on her because she has the X factor.

Cinan: Monika Liu you are gorgeous, I love you so much, but that staging is literally the same and the outfit is the same. I wonder if they will change it. I will be really happy to see different staging.

I like her and the song, but I don’t like the selfie LEDs.

I loved that she kept it simple, she’s the X Factor and I hope she goes top 10 in two weeks!

This is such a classy entry and so underrated! I think generally Lithuania is sending good entries the last couple of years and they deserve a win at some point. Why not this year?

I wouldn’t get your hopes up about Lithuania winning. I would just pray that it qualifies period.

Citi Zeni and Latvian HoD stated that they were informed stage will not be fixed. Such a lapse for host country…

Not even an effort? Disappointed, Italia.

I really hope Lithuania qualifies because Sentimentai is such a nice song and Monika is a great singer! Hopefully the juries will reward her vocals, which are one of the best in the contest! I’ll be extremely pissed if Austria’s terrible vocals qualifies over this!

Poor Monika – first she got assigned that terrible running order and now this!
I wasn’t crazy about that huge sun from the very beginning (because it looked tacky as hell) but to hear it’s not even functioning properly is especially frustrating.

They should try to replicate her national final performance – there were no huge rotating suns on that stage and it was still awesome, thanks to Monika’s magnetic charisma and great camera work.

The dress really highlights her fluid movements. She is stunning and doesn’t need fancy effects. Barbara Pravi didn’t need them.

So bummed. The spinning sun was supposed to be a massive part of her performance and now that’s out. Really hoping she qualifies regardless. What an icon.

What went wrong with the camera work?

The camera work is always coordinated pre-rehearsals, for months. Some countries found their camera work to be completely different. Citing Lithuanian stage director: “[camera work] was bottom of the barrel, it took 3 rehearsals to get it slightly improved”. Also some delegations were informed LAST MINUTE that their staging has to be scrapped because of the broken stage. Citing Lithuanian stage director again: “I work with Eurovision for many years and I have never seen anything like this”.

She’s adorable. I love when she says “the stage is so big and I’m so small”. This will stand out.

Nah, she said she will keep the hair and dress since winning the NF. There are however some changes in the visuals and the biggest change in the ending of the song (I think?).

Oh… I can’t remember where but I remember seeing multiple posts about them changing everything.

If I remember right at first she was thinking about changing it (change in three dresses & even add magic trick ?), but decided against it as she wants show SONG & LANGUAGE, so she decided that her alone will be enough.
