She came third in the OGAE 2022 fan poll. She placed second — by the thinnest of margins — with our Wiwi Jury. And now Chanel continues her ascent. Spain’s Eurovision 2022 star is our readers’ favourite to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 prior to rehearsals.

Ten days ago we asked our readers to vote for their favourites to snatch the crown in Turin. We counted a total of 23,149 votes and the “SloMo” queen emerged victorious.

Chanel, who has constantly dazzled with that dance break on TV and at promo concerts, has been spinning and twisting and splitting her way into our hearts ever since Benidorm Fest. She earned a total of 2,601 votes — or more than 11% of all those cast.

Here’s how I reviewed her ahead of rehearsals.

“Fans of Spain’s Eurovision 2022 act have been using the mango emoji to share their love of Chanel’s juicy entry. But given the spice and enduring burn of her performance, a chilli pepper seems more appropriate. “SloMo” catches fire thanks to its infectious beat and enticing raggaeton feels. But Chanel takes the flames even higher with her eye-popping choreography, which would leave even J. Lo needing to stretch. From the strobe light effects to the killer dance break, this production is a dizzying slice of joy and awe. If a Eurovision winner is based on entertainment, this is easily the most perfect entry of the year.”

In second place we have Sweden’s Cornelia Jakobs — the winner of both the OGAE fan poll and the Wiwi Jury. The Melodifestivalen winner knows how to tug on heartstrings with her folk-pop ballad and we are most definitely here for it.

She earned 2,155 votes, or just over 9% of all those cast.

Rounding out the Top 3 are Italy’s Mahmood & Blanco, who finished second in the OGAE poll. They are the only other act to earn more than 2,000 votes with our readers.

Poll results: Spain’s Chanel is our readers’ favourite to win Eurovision 2022

  1. Spain: 11.24%, 2,601 votes

I read comments and it feels like wow in a very bad sense. Eurovision was created to unite Europe but now social media seems to be bringing Europe apart. I cannot understand how come people actually ‘hate’ a song, call it garbage, they are only happy if their favourite song wins and they support a song by attacking and belittling others.

Sorry to say but totally don’t like Chanel’s song it did nothing to me when i heard her live in Amsterdam. Rumania is the song for me that i can’t get out of my head and of course Mahmood and Blanco hope they will win, will be sad if Mahmood becomes 2nd again and the song is realy good .

Bahahahahaha of course nobody at Wiwibloggs understands the mango emoji. It’s because it means “yo mango” like “I steal”. We use the mango emoji because Benidorm Fest was stolen by Chanel. She is not who we wanted to send to Turin.

There ought to be a public health warning that every time Wiwi fanboys shout “queen” and “slay”… That some reality check based on juries and Saturday night voters kicks in. Last year. Malta, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, San Marino… All fell way short of expectations. I’m really not sure Chanel is any different.

Green

Difference is last year there were a ton of these type of performances, this year Chanel has basically no competition. Only other one that could be conpared is Albania, and even then they are so different. And lets be real, none of them from last year was doing what Chanel is doing. She is on another level. Now im not saying spain wil win or maybe not even top 10 because everything is possible in eurovision, but her chances are much better than those from last year.

Honey, Spaniards brought so much hate to the song when it was chosen because their favorite didn’t win, it is the rest of Europe who’s been saying this is a bop, and it is first in the poll for a reason, the fact that you dont like it doesn’t mean everyone agrees nor that it is a bad song

I’m from Spain. I don’t like this song. But please, don’t say this is a rhythm only iberians like. This kind of music isn’t related to Spain but from the other coast of the Atlantic ocean. I feel like the hype is generated not only because it’s not a bad song, but also because it comes from a country that has been doing poorly at Eurovision for quite a long time now. Similarly to San Marino last year – WOWAOWOAO Senhit for the win! And then, 13 televoting points in the Grand Final.

I would love to see Spain win! Not only it would mean a fantastic reward for the country after the efforts with the Benidorm Fest (best national selection of the year), but also, after two years of mess, I NEED something fun to celebrate about. Yeah, the lyrics are not winning a Pulitzer prize, and the song is basically a reggeaton (on the other hand, the hottest music genre right now), but all Eurovision winning songs had its flaws.

Spain has a competent performer and will probably get the staging right, but the problem always comes back to the song. SloMo just isn’t memorable, it doesn’t have that “hook”.
As far as I know, the song didn’t become a major hit in Spain, despite lots of press and promotion.
I suspect she will do much better with the juries than with the televoting.

The eurovision fan media should cover the artists more equally and give everyone the same chance to present themselves to the viewers. I honestly feel bad for some artists who constantly get negative critiques even though they put so much emotion, work and love into their songs. That just destroys the overall positive feeling of togetherness. I attended one Pre-party and i saw arists being completely ignored while others would give one interview after another. I totally agree! Have I said a word about that? Love Chanel’s dance and she seems very sweat. But comparir with a young Madonna for example.
Chanel could be naked and have dildos on stage if she wanted. What I am disgusted by is the lyric that clearly has nothing to do whith woman’s sexuality to do. It has to do whit what men whant it to be for women.

I have a feeling that half of the bottom 10 will qualify—there’s a world that Iceland, Switzerland, Moldova, Latvia and Georgia can go through. And Germany Is already in the final.

That’s absolutely right. It’s simply because these polls are completely pointless. We haven’t seen the final product. We don’t know if any country will surprise us and suddenly be a Top 10 contender. I’m almost sure Moldova and Latvia will qualify. Germany also deserves to do well because his song actually has a meaning. Same goes for Switzerland and Iceland. I really hope that we will see positive surprises and songs doing much better than the fan bubble expects. I don’t see Spain being 1st in any way. To be honest, i’m just ecstatic that UK is in the top 5 of the fans. It already feels like a jury winner so there might still be hope. ^^ 😀

She’s awesome, good luck! It’s incredible how she can be that stable while doing such demanding choreo. Singing on a treadmill and dancing in high heels really paid off
Again, good luck! <3

We know. You guys have kept on repeating the same comment for the past 3.5 months now, overpraising Chanel at every chance…. 🙂

“You guys”? I have no idea, i finally found time to listen to the songs a week ago (been buys with life) and started commenting here three days ago. Never read any comments. I listen to kpop, i know that they practice singing on a treadmill and practice dancing in heels and i’m certain she does it at well.

If people have made the same comment for 3.5 month then I’m glad they are aware how hard is it to pull this off
