Lumix Pia Maria Rehearsal Eurovision 2022 Halo
Photo: EBU / NATHAN REINDS

Eurovision 2022 second rehearsals are into the final straight for Wednesday, with Austria being the third last act to perform. Lumix and Pia Maria performed “Halo” inside the PalaOlimpico arena. What did we think? Scroll down to find out…

Austria’s Lumix feat. Pia Maria “Halo” — Eurovision 2022 second rehearsal

Padraig: Both the audio track and music video for “Halo” are packed full of energy. So it’s a little anti-climactic to report that the entirety of Austria’s set consists of Lumix and Pia Maria performing inside a giant halo lined with dozens of ring lights. And that’s pretty much it. Lumix pretends to scratch his records and does a little shouting to warm up the crowd, while Pia Maria, now with a new hairstyle, does her thing. The grandiose and extravagance of the music video are completely absent. Furthermore, the song key appears to have been lowered and the backing singers have been turned up.

It is ok. I dont see a well thought performance, it is just two youngsters within a circle singing but it is ok.

It’s a SONG contest, not a singer contest, nor vocal abilities contest. Many average singers has a great songs. This is a great song! And this girl has been through hell literally, they didn’t mixed her and back voices as they should (staff in Turin) there’s total anti Pia propaganda that it becomes tasteless – saw the video on YT of two middle age guys and chick from wiwi calling her hairstyle an an*l sex toy. She’s a teenager FGS and you literally constantly trying to make this kid anxious and insecure shaming her because their song is an actually… Read more »

The song is not my taste but probably for the majority it is a good summer hit when listening to recorded version not live. It is a song contest but song goes hand in hand with vocals and singing, otherwise it is hard on ears. The overall Austrias package isn’t ready and looks poor quality. The entire Austrias situation reminds me of Roxens last year – a lot of hype but unfortunate result because of bad vocals.

The claim that some of you have that Eurovision is just a “song contest” is not viable anymore even if the contest orginially was named as “Eurovision Song Contest”. I thought we established long ago that Eurovision isn’t just a “song contest” anymore and haven’t been for decades now. If it was only about the song itself then why would the delegations put any effort or money into the staging and overall visuals? Why would the hosting country put money into creating amazing staging if the visuals aren’t important? To get a good placement in Eurovision, entries require to have… Read more »

One of the fan favourites, no doubt this is very catchy and good on the radio and to dance to . I don’t think this will qualify though , something is missing .

Of course it is. If you can’t sing you shouldn’t qualify. See what happened to Ireland or Romania last year…

Such a poor quality

Poor Austria. The song is good but vocally weak VS the other songs. Every detail matters. Good luck to all entries!

I don’t get it. Why did they pick an inexperenced singer who cannot sing at all? Surely at some point someone must have thought this was a bad idea.

Actually I am asking myself the same question every time there is a DJ feat a singer in eurovision. Because almost every time it is like the same problem (look at Poland 2018, Finland 2019)

I dont think it is so bad as people say. Austria is a qualifier for me

I think the song was a nice option but the singer not so much, which makes the overall choice a bit rushed.
I love the song, but this just makes me more afraid that it will not only not advance but also end up at the bottom of the SF

I don’t understand why is everyone saying this will not qualify. It sounds good. Most of the job is done by the backing vocalist but so what? I don’t get it.

You said the reason: the job is done by two backing vocalists.

That didn’t stop Azerbaijan last year. I don’t think it will stop Austria. I’m not saying tey will qualify but no way this is bottom 3.

Sure qualifier? I hope not.

At this point, they could also just put one of the backing vocalists on stage since they seem to be the only ones that you can actually hear…

Pia might be inexperienced, but she is improving all the time and the staging is great, so I really don’t think this isn’t a guaranteed NQ like people are saying.

Pia wasn’t the right singer for this track, and I’m sorry that she’s going to receive the brunt of the criticism.

Uff… the betting odds just pushed Latvia on that 10th place ahead of them. Good luck, I guess.

Surprisingly, so really good songs are supposedly ”out” if we are to look at the betting odds (even if they get one-two wrong from the places 7-10 each year): Austria, Lithuania, Croatia, Denmark, Iceland, Slovenia, and Bulgaria are ”not expected to qualify”. Lithuania especially, and also Croatia, Iceland, and Slovenia, would deserve it, though.

I would be very happy if at least one of them makes it. At this point, we can do without Latvia and Switzerland in the finals, but perhaps I’ll change my mind when the semi comes.

I’m not too sure about Lithuania qualifying tbh. I feel she might be forgotten about being so early. She’s a lovely singer tho and I wish her the best:)

Pia Maria is Natalia Gordienko of 2022. A vocal powerhouse me thinks.

Safe to say Austria will be in the bottom 3 of the semi. It’s a bit sad but not that much.

WE CAN BE VOCAL COACHES, YEAH WE ALREADY KNOW! Remember “Stones” shocking NQ, anyone? This will be its reincarnation. Only less shocking this time.

Stones was a dead certain NQ in 2018. It’s my 2018 runner up but I knew it won’t go through. Death semi innit. There will be nothing shocking about Austria NQ’ing this year.

Stones was fantastic on stage. They deserved a spot in the final but the public didn’t care much and neither did the jury. Death semi innit.

Austria is coming bottom 3 if not last with the jury and they won’t do much better with the public. Surely Austria can’t qualify with a vocal that is that poor right? I wanna see the clip to see truly how poor it is.
