After a mid-afternoon break, Eurovision 2022 second rehearsals continue with Croatia’s Mia Dimsic. The Dora 2022 winner showcased “Guilty Pleasure” for accredited press for the first time. What did we think? Scroll down to find out…

Croatia’s Mia Dimsic “Guilty Pleasure” — Eurovision 2022 second rehearsal

Padraig: Rehearsals are an opportunity for artists to play around with various elements of their performances. And that’s exactly what Mia Dimsic did this afternoon. She overcame some in-ear and sound complications to deliver “Guilty Pleasure” first in English, and then in a mix of English and Croatian. As for the staging, Mia wore a pink gown. Now, she’s joined by three dancers, rather than just the one like in Dora. Together, the quartet showcase the conflict at the heart of the song through their choreography. We see Mia interact with both her “devotion” and her “guilty pleasure”. There’s also a female dancer, who’s possibly another representation of Mia or perhaps the partner of the man Mia is having her affair with. The performance is certainly more coherent than before, but it remains to be seen whether it will pack enough punch to make it to the final.

This is one of those songs which will end 8-12th place in this semi. It will either qualify or it will not. I actually would like it to qualify , after they were robbed last year with a place in the final with Tick Tock. LoL

Putting some lyrics in Croatian will do it good, result-wise. It might even be a shocking qualifier, if enough people find it sweet. From a narrative standpoint, there’s a POV shift in the song with new lyrics, but objectively, nobody who doesn’t understand both languages will notice it, so it’s tactically a good choice. Even so, it can be effective if the story on the stage makes that shift together with the lyrics. In any case, this looks solid, and I can see that Mia will make us proud regardless of the result. Good luck!

This is quite sweet and nice, but it the refrains are quite repetitive and so Mia and the team have decided to change up the languages towards the end of the song, which helps add some interest to it. Thre was trouble in the rehearsal because the backing track didn’t seem to match what was planned, but anyhow… I like the dancing and this one will appeal to those who like artistic choreo with a bit of storytelling.

The backdrop looks really cute and she’s great.
The dancers I can just do without. They almost never add anything to a performance and are just a distraction.

Still not doing it for me unfortunately. I am not a great fan of dancers being the personification of the song, I find it a little distracting and detracting from the song. I think only Ryan from Ireland did it well.

They are constantly repeating the same mistake. Sending a song, which was not the fan favorite and is mostly in English but with a part in Croatian… NQ

For those wondering, why Portugal didn’t rehearse.
One member of the delegation was tested positive for COVID-19.

Rehearsal postponed to 17:20
