Day five Eurovision 2022 rehearsals are almost over. The penultimate act to hit the stage is Greece’s Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord. She performed “Die Together” inside the PalaOlimpico arena. What did we think? Scroll down to find out…
Greece’s Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord “Die Together” — Eurovision 2022 second rehearsal
Padraig: “Die Together” is a dark yet elegant ballad, so it’s only fitting that it has staging to match. Wearing a long-sleeved, floor-length, icy white gown, Amanda starts her performance seated centre stage. She steps up to reveal that the stage is actually a sea of chairs, with most of the furniture sinking below the surface. There’s also impressive use of LED. An overhead shot shows patterns flow from the seats and into the LED background. There’s also a silhouette of a couple dancing, presumably the two lovers at the heart of the song. Amanda’s vocals remain flawless throughout.

Barbara Dex where are you when we need you.
Not my cup of tea but a definite qualifier and perhaps Top 10
Thinking about the song and the staging. I think if the lyrics had some other characteristics that could have been taken for a climate anthem. And the staging should the had been referring to climate change. I can see her as white dressed Jeanne d’Arc in the midsts if burning forests. Then the song and performance would have been interesting and winning material. But now with this strange love story about death, her singing so seriously and the staging that is hard to understand. It doesn’t make sense.
The music and vocals are completely different if you listen through your headphones. It sounds 100% better!
My issue with this is that it’s not supposed to sound better with headphones vs speakers. Absolute majority of Eurovision viewers watch through their TVs where they don’t use headphones. I want Greece to do well this year but she needs to sound great through speakers as well to have a chance to win. As she is performing right now she will still end up in a great position in the final because it doesn’t sound terrible, but to actually win she needs to fix her slightly pitchy singing and make sure it sounds great no matter how you listen… Read more »
Well the point is that it is a sound issue and not her issue if one is better than the other. Needs yo be fixed. Mind you a played it on my TV and it sounds great.
I did watch on my TV as well and thought she sounded pitchy, but if it’s because of an in-ear issue that makes it difficult for her to hear herself then that explains it. Hopefully they’ll be able to fix it so she can give 100% with no worries in the finals.
For me Die together and Die Diepte are quite similar as regards lyrics but Die Diepte is a coherent package as regards lyrics and melody: lyrics are ‘dark’ and melody matches this tone and keeps it throughout the song. Die Together is another ‘dark’ song presumably about pain, suffering but the chorus sounds too jingle-ish. You dont need to speak Dutch to feel what Die Diepte is about, to get a feeling but if you dont speak English you dont know/feel what Amanda is singing about.
I find this song horrifying. Lyrics are literally about leading and pursuing your partner to suicide. What an awful message! Can’t imagine how this song sounds to a depressed person and what harm can it make to depressed teenagers.
Heheheh You must be the only one thinking that the song will drive people to suicide… What else will i hear in this forum.. Is about a break up and is a love song.. If we have to take literally all lyrics and the costumes of Eurovision there will be no Eurovision. You can be depressed if you like hearing it and when it wins come to Greece next year for a bit of sun, sea and souvlaki to pass your depression lolll 🙂
How do you explain: if we die together now/ I wont lose you for another/ we will always have each other???
Can I ask how old are you? You clearly have t felt passionate love yet in your life or lived in any of the Mediterranean countries. The way you analyse this can tell that you haven’t. Greeks live every moment of their lives and celebrate life in extremes. They celebrate life, every moment even death that’s why is one of the most rich cultures in the history… It is just a dramatic love song. Talking about love, break up, hurt feelings and sadness. It can talk feelings during covid, war or simply breaking up a relationship. That’s the beauty of… Read more »
Yeah yeah i am 12… Again how do you explain the lyrics: if we die together now/ i wont loose you for another?… Passionate love is ‘wishing’ you and your partner to die so that you dont loose him/her for another.
. Passionate? Maybe. Love? Definitely not. Living afraid of loosing your partner and preferring to die instead is not love.
Was thinking the same about the lyrics too. She’s a good singer, the vocals are on track, everything is there with the song and melody but the downside is purely the lyrics. Its too depressing , too negative, too dark. This is not winning material.
Or killing him/her to have everlasting love in the afterlife… But apart from the lyrics the song itself is quite bland. I mean there is no impact. It starts kinda ok but then the chorus musical structure is soooo poor, so generic. It does not match the intro, it is like: we will always have EACH OTHER/ I wont lose you for aNOTHER. It stresses the last words of the sentence and creates a melody that sounds very childish. They should have kept the ‘dark’ melody instead of using such generic pop(ish) chorus.
You are trying to analyse rationaly an irrational feeling such as Love. It’s not going to work. Some people will just not connect with it. The majority should connect fine.
But the lyrics of a song are something rational… And therefore can be anylised rationally. According to you Amanda could have sung: you, me potatoes in the air with a bit of a horse… It doesnt make sense? Well it is about Love, it is irrational.
I don’t know what you are talking about. If you can’t understand the song, that’s fine. It’s not for everyone. If you can’t understand the pain of a breakup and the irrational thoughts to keep the relationship alive, again that’s fine. Some people do not understand it.
Irrational thoughts such as if we die together now I wont loose you for another… This is the kind of ‘irrational’ thoughts those who killed their partners and then commit suicide might have thought… No i have never felt anything like that.
The song is amazing, the staging is amazing… the voice and the dress the opposite
I love it when I see so many people are passionate about this song. Makes me smile , even though the lyrics are very depressing. Is depressing a winning formulae for 2002? I really am not sure. I’m hoping its a no, but Greece is going to qualify for sure and it is a good song indeed . Winning material I really don’t know at this moment. Top 10 yes , Top 15 yes. Top 3 we will see.
I’m not making any predictions, but do the last 5 winners not prove that there’s no template for winning the contest, at least not anymore? Duncan, Sobral and Jamala didn’t have the most uplifting lyrics either, by the way.
Sobral was heart warming, I am not sure gloom is what people want right now. Maybe Jamala is the only winner that was dark but she was telling a story with a mission. Greece I don’t know – It is desperate and so don’t feel it. It still makes me feel like Greta Thunberg is on stage. But Greta has a mission about the climate. I don’t see this song has such a mission. It is a kind of personal but still dark. We will see in the final!
Another thing there is a poll on another Eurovision site that they had since 2014 and they only been wrong once, and then the winner was on second place it was Ukraine. Greece is not even in their top three neither Ukraine when Russia was voted number one. this year the top is very tight. They are 1 Italy 2 Sweden and 3 Spain . The last two almost equal. So it would be a very strange thing for Greece to win, but this year might be the year that is out of the ordinary. With Ukraine it is another… Read more »
I know the Greek fans usually go mad for their entries no matter what they send, but this is finally the year when I can’t really blame them at all, completely joined their bandwagon since day one, lol.
This song is my favorite this year. I imagine the car ride through the LA hills sitting in the back and arguing with a lover who is steering and we feel bitter emotions in a beautiful cliff environment. I saw her sing with a boys choir and I loved it so much. And then this staging came. It’s the poltergeist with nuked chairs melting into the floor accompanied by a huge covid virus with thunder strucks, the mother of all viruses. And She scares me and it feels screamy. What could have been sultry dark romantic, became a scary movie.… Read more »
Really bad singing…
I also felt smth off and I did not expect that, because she always have been good, I think.it came as a shock.
Right. It felt really underwhelming…
Try listening through your earphones and your experience will be altered!
She looks amazing, the staging is good but her voice…… in the recorded version she has a lot of tech backing up her voice and it sounds really rich, live, whilst her voice is good, it’s not strong enough to soar…. yet perhaps? I hope.
I got winning vibes from this!My number one so far! So artistic and flawless.
Dont like the sond ,dont like the staging ,point,…..uf very curiouse how many dislike go to have ,that is exciting lol ?
the song i mean ,,:)
Stunning, the only one that has gave me winner vibes so far. That damn sun tho… I am pretty sure the lights would have looked more epic without it. Ah Italians…
I am really impressed by our staging and I think that it was perhaps the best of the day! It feels authentic which is something that was missing from our entries from the last couple of years. Good job!
Come on Greece.. you can do it!!!! We need this performance to be a winner one!
So far Im dissapointed. The staging looks boring. Just blue light and chairs. Why do you guys like it so much? The song has potential for better staging.
How many downvotes can I get? hahaha
I am the number 67 down vote and countering hehe
Thank you 🙂
That stage looks more horrific everytime . The black arches look comical and amateur
She lost her love. She came here and sang about it. Nothing more but yet everyone felt it!
The most classy and complete live perfomance so far.
So if her love died how is she going to lose him for another??
I reckon this is going to win this semi
I love that the dream team who is behind this staging abolished all the gimmicks and made something so tasty and classy, Juries better support this as
I’ve got too used to the smooth elegance of the studio cut and video… That her voice now sounds rough and more like Cornelia Jacobs than I’d ever imagined… Sure Q. But…9th to 12th for me…
I used to think that song was boring as hell but clearly she has a powerful voice and it’s for the best. Obviously the staging has been very well rethought, especially the light effects so we may even forget that eyesore/dark sun in the background.
It might win the Semi (unless it’s Ukraine) and will place well in the Final.
Duncan 2019 wants his ikea Lamp back!!…………………
This just looks stunning! I was jarred a bit at first but now that I understand the context and reasoning I must recognize that this is super genius!
The snippet I saw on YouTube doesn’t convince me. Why do you like the staging? It is nothing special, the lyrics are still not effecting me. She looks a little bit like Greta Thunberg – have emotions but angry ones. I was not 100% convinced by her vocals either.
Please explain what is so good about the staging? I really don’t see anything special. Blue colors and some chairs.
news flash, this is a 30 seconds clip. If you bother to read the article you would know that the chairs look like they are sinking under the led floor and there is a strong symbolism behind this and the use of led.
Yes , but I can only judge from what I have seen, and it was like nothing special. What they write is not always the truth. The symbolism is not ground breaking neither are the visuals.
ok karen
Ok mansplainer.
Do you even know what a Karen is, your comment is downgrading women.
said the one who commented than an artists looks like Greta Thunberg with angry emotions, as if thats a bad thing. Who is the mansplainer karen?
I love Greta. But she is angr with a right to be that. I live that I did not say that is it bad. It is your assumption. And it has nothing to with a Karen that is a middle aged racist woman. I am not.
I was supposed to say that I live Greta’s anger.
Love! Sorry.
Where did I say it was a bad thing?
The fact that you bother to comment about it again and again it means something.. It created you emotions. For something that you say is nothing special made you spend all that time commenting to me means something 🙂 we cant all of us like everything so..
Helene: Please EXPLAIN what is so good about the staging.
A random guy comes and explains.
Helene Karenson: Mansplainer!!!1!1! hahahaha
I answered that he was a mansplainer after he that he called me a Karen for no reason at all. It is an insult. It was not because of his explanation. Please follow the conversation.
I have the same. Poltergeist and screamy. So off putting
Got goosebumps with her performance ..winner maybe?
She looks like a possessed Anna Vissi. Sorry, i font know if its the camera work, the production or the stage but this year is a total disaster.
Just thinking back to 2001 for a moment, I remember Greece caused a bit of a media stir that year when it was thought: “Oh no, we can’t have a song called ‘Die For You’ winning Eurovision!” Now fast forward to 2022, and we’re quite happy to “Die Together.” 🙂
Boring. Its good maybe for esc fans obsessed of female pop, but if it qualifies it will be circa 20th place.
I wonder why Greece rehearsed today and not Iceland which is after Austria in the running order.
because RAI cant even create a consistent rehearsal schedule
It was due to the delegation, not Rai. I know guys that all of you now hates us, but please do it in a proper way.
My favorite entry this year
that dress and hair make her look like a 12 year old at her communion
If she sang “Die Together” at that communion, I would attend. Dress code be dam-ed.
No she looks like a Caryatid, an ancient greek statue… and that’s a good thing.
Maybe for a greek person.
This one looks VERY GOOD like … I got goosebumps and it’s not even in my TOP10.
Personally, I believe this is a serious contender to win the jury vote and I believe it will do very well in teveloting. Probably top 5-7 place. I love Greece’s entry this year.
Why chairs though??
I see this entry as rooted in Greek tragedies, finding elegance and beauty in darkness. I might be wrong, but my first reaction is that the chairs are either a tribute to Eugene Ionesco’s ”The Chairs”, or to the ”Empty chairs” song from Les Miserables. Both are literary tragedies about loss and loneliness, and would fit the narrative of this song perfectly. However, maybe Amanda’s personal inspiration lies elsewhere. In any case, it works.
Or perhaps the song is about the sell-off of IKEA? I’m kidding! 😀
It is probably referencing Greek tragedies.
Am I the only one hearing foced, swaying voice and at times quite false. For me this was unfortunately disappointing.
I’m not getting the love for it at all but then Greece is always over hyped. That “exclusive” clip is far from impressive, her voice is strange.
I hear that too… it’s out of tune, obviously
This is growing on me more and more. Might even finish higher than Sweden or even Netherlands on my list after the show. Maybe… This looks EPIC! I was mentioning Ancient Greek tragedies as an inspiration, but with this staging it takes it into the 20th century, bringing the images of Ionesco’s Chairs. It’s both vintage and modern. Also, Amanda slays! Wow, this just wow!
I’m so happy for Amanda. Bravo. 🙂
BREATHTAKING
This beautiful, but it’s not really winning or TOP 5. Its success will depend on running order in the final.
Hats off to Amanda and her team. This is a masterpiece, her vocals are flawless and Greece deserves a top-3 in the grand final.
I told everyone that Greece had one of the best stand in rehearsals, so I already warned you guys that Greece would be climbing the betting odds like fire. People didn’t believe that I am in the eurovision bubble watching all the rehearsals ahead of everyone
It only climbed from 7th place to 6th in odds, does not scream a winner to me
It will climb more once more people see it.
Thank you for the compliment
Did you say Poland was doing the same staging as the national final. Which there aren’t. You aren’t leaking anything just making predictions like the rest of us.
Beautiful. Easy qualifier.
So good.
I wish they’d gone even bigger with the staging. They really do have a winning song and singer here. Don’t know if it’s visual enough for the win but it’s going to come close. :3
Ahhhh… the wonderful, sweet feeling of being a contender for the win after 14 years. :’)
Amanda Georgiadi SLAYYYYYjord <3 <3 <3
Winner Alert <3
Even though I don’t LOVE this entry I will be very excited if this wins because I know how much it would mean for Greeks.
Italy has proven that if you have the money it doesnt mean you can do it well, ERT wants to win and i am sure we will do an amazing job
our stage 16 years ago was most technologically advanced than this year’s, we would definitely build something nice
