Today’s the day! Eurovision 2022 second rehearsals kick off in Turin, and after days of short TikTok clips, we finally get our first proper look at how this year’s acts decided to stage their entries.

We’ll have individual posts for each country on our website, updated live throughout the day. Stay tuned to wiwibloggs to see our first reactions!

The camera angles are really awkward for almost every act and the stage looks like a big void because of it. As well as lightning, which sucks as well, in some frames you can’t even see performers faces because of how bright the lightning is. And, to be honest, until now I didn’t realise how big of an issue the dead sun is but it really is a problem. It covers the LED screens, it’s completely kills the staging for some acts that don’t use the lights from it. I have a vibe that nothing is really tv ready yet… Read more »

Why Blanco not showing up to the first rehearsal tomorrow is allowed? I hate artists that just do Eurovision as a side gig and only want the publicity from it *cough Mika*

All his concert went sold-out weeks before Sanremo; that’s nothing about doing Eurovision as a side gig, he cares of his fans that had put money to watch him. Same thing for Mahmood

he could reschedule, other artists had planned gigs as well. Rules apply for everyone, Salvador Sobral didnt attend rehearsals for medical reasons and thats the only acceptable excuse.

There are no rules that forced you to be at the preparties or even at the rehearsal – and that’s why Mahmood can perform tomorrow on his own or with someone else (like Senith did last year).
Of course, artist can reschedule, but it’s not a shame if they don’t

rehearsals are part of the event and yes, rules say that artists need to be present throughout the rehearsal period.

Apparently because Italy send successful artists to Eurovision and they have actually a career. I know it is quite rare among Eurovision contestants!

Yeah its also rare to build a stage that doesnt work, Italy is the first to do so in 67 years, well done!

Yes, in fact Italy focuses mainly on the quality of the songs and not the stages. Weak songs need to rely on staging!

Many performances are ruined by that black hole. I need to see the staging and shooting for Serbia. If they manage to shoot it close and well I will be confident that Serbia is heading to TOP 5 this year.

I would like to say it clearly only one time, then people can have their opinion. The “Sun” shows this side because EBU forced Rai to do that; when they realised that the structure needs more time to move itself, than the 40 seconds of the postcards, Rai decided to go back after every perfomance live in the arena and then – thanks to Leo the drone – launch the next artist. That would have assure an extra time that the sun needs – only 40 seconds more. EBU didn’t allowed this fact, so the production decided to choose the… Read more »

Good to know, but still not fair at all to those who planned on using the other side of the sun.

Rai planned to present every artist in “Sanremo style” and EBU liked the idea so they gave the permission. Three day before the rehearsal EBU changed idea so there was no time enough to fix the Sun to be faster.
So, please guy, it’s all EBU matter; Rai is only trying to figure out how to do it’s very best with all of these problems.

Guys we all need your support, we want you to be proud of us and happy about the show. We have been waiting for so long, and we don’t want to ruin it all – that’s why Rai planned such a big event with the Italian style. Please, try to be kind and supportive; we are facing such difficult time.

Hey WiWiBloggs team! I don’t know if you’ve realised that you’re facing what might be one of your most important moments in your history, since you’re one of the most well-known voices in the Eurovision fandom community. Reviewing songs, entries and votes would be more than enough in normal years. But this ain’t turning out to be a normal year for Eurovision. I know it’s scary. This falls clearly out of your comfort zone. But you have a voice. You must use it. Wisely. But use it you must. You need to start making a journalistic style coverage and investigation… Read more »

I’m totally open to the idea that my comment might be pathetic. But since you did spend energy to say something, why didn’t you try to make it at least more useful and explanatory? Or why not just say nothing at all if you couldn’t be bothered to explain?

Vale
Vale

Definitely. Guessing then, Italy should be banned or maybe they just withdraw for 2 decades like they did in the past. After all, Italian fandom is almost inexistent. They won’t miss it much!

Sandro Gonzalez

Italy should not be banned. Nor should they withdraw. And doing so well at Eurovision over the last few years must’ve created a fandom.

It’s the stage that needs fixing right now. And someone should find out and tell us what has happened exactly and why we cannot find before the final a better solution than the one proposed by the EBU.

Ngl I was expecting something better from the Netherlands, the staging’s too opaque.
Also, Greece has a peculiar staging but it doesn’t look as magical as one could’ve thought from the first rehearsal

Cant understand people who say that Netherlands is fantastic on stage. Its horrendous. They have destroyed one of the contenders. Its bland, she is frightened, looks bored. This is Denmark 2002 all over again. Even Croatia looks better.

Horrendous year, horrendous organization. Shame on RAI, and even more SHAME ON EBU!

I don’t understand in this specific case the blame on RAI and EBU. They’re not staging the Dutch performance. Each country creates the style by itself. It is what the Netherlands chose. Unfortunately by the way. I also expected much more from the Netherlands. I love the song so much. But staging is really nothing.

From the clips today. I most like Switzerland. A very good staging. It really elevate the song and artist. Well done! Everyone here hating Sasha Baptiste are wrong. You can tell it is a pro doing the staging and it might help Switzerland to reach the final. The rest today are looking poor in comparison.

That stage thing taught me a couple of things. 1) Florian Weider designs might not be as flashy or adventurous but they are reliable as f^ck 2) The Eurofans often find reasons to be toxic even when everything works fine, so why bother to even pay attention to that bitter bunch. 3) The Italian organizers probably are much more devastated by this situation than the bored couch experts at home. They actually worked hard to plan and build this thing and had huge plans that now won’t happen plus everybody is mad at them as if they didn’t make an… Read more »

I can’t agree. If you hadn’t heard all the hype beforehand maybe you’d think it looked OK but they really talked it up, the “sun within” was meant to be THE feature of the stage, now we have what looks like half a vinyl record which in one way is not inappropriate but the problem is that it’s there for all 40 songs, a few spotlights shining out of the blackness which blind and obscure what’s going on and doesn’t disguise the fact that someone really messed up here and no one seems to be able to do anything about… Read more »

I mean, they don’t even rely on the staging that much so I don’t see why not. It will possibly look similar to the one of Festival Da Cançao (hopefully I didn’t butcher the name), with only the girls forming a circle with their positions. Simple but effective.
