Romania WRS Llámame Eurovision 2022 rehearsal
Photo: EBU – NATHAN REINDS

We’re halfway through day seven of Eurovision 2022 rehearsals, with six semi-final two acts left to have their second run-through. The first of these was Romania’s WRS. How did “Llámame” translate onto the Turin stage? Let’s find out…

Romania’s WRS “Llámame” — Eurovision 2022 second rehearsal

Padraig: “Llámame” is a fun and sultry number, so it’s only fitting that it has staging to match. WRS and his four dancers – two male and two female – deliver a performance that exudes sex appeal without being crude. We start with individual close-ups of the two male dancers. The camera pans out to reveal WRS dressed in a red ruffled shirt and black leather pants. There’s lots of body contact with WRS getting up close and personal with his dancers, male and female alike. The big moment comes as his dancers pull off his shirt to reveal a fantastic bodysuit that even Chanel would be envious of.

I am telling you now, he will get the 12 points from the Spanish televote. I hope he convinces other countries as well, because I don’t think he will be getting much from juries. And I NEED him at the final.

Oh my, WRS knows how to bring a party! And this staging is great, absolutely perfect for the party vibe. I really hope this makes it to the final, this is great for a Saturday night!

I love WRS’ energy out of the stage, looks like a nice guy. And the song is certainly catchy but everything happening on stage looks a bit tacky and kind of cheap and dated. The Spanish pasodoble inspiration is a bit cringy from Spanish point of view. I wouldn’t be mad if he makes it through, tho. He’s gonna be a meme star here in Spain.

if Sweden wants to win this semi, they will certainly face fierce competition from the televoting side, against major players like Serbia, Estonia, Romania and maybe even San Marino

If I watched a re-run of 2006’s Tornero and then immediately followed with this, I wouldn’t be able to tell they’re over 15 years apart.
It’s not really for me musically…but, yeah, the staging’s fine and those who like it, will like it.

Part of me is think this is pure trash but this semi is seriously lacking this kind of retro fun euro trash dance song. The juries might sink this but there’s probably enough Romanian diaspora and drunk home viewers who would eat this up. His vocals don’t seem as bad as I remembered from the National selection.

How is it pure trash though? I mean without a bit of more context it is probably a very wtf “old-fashioned” song but in fact this is the type of music that is most popular in Romania… I can understand not being the biggest fan (i also am not though his songs are MAD popular in Bulgaria as well) but it seems a bit too harsh to call it pure trash lol. I like his song now because at least the performance itself really elevated the song – the dance routine and his vocals – everything is polished so it… Read more »

because there’s nothing redeeming the song lyrically and it feels like it’s a song from late 90s early 00s…I am not saying trash is bad…I have trash every day….but it’s disposable

Loving this and hating Israel. I guess it is because of the fact WRS doesn’t give a s*** about others opinion and David Ben cares too much, although he pretends not to.

Israel is a lot better than this, the staging works and really elevates it. romania just seems tacky and dated

They are both deep in my bottom 10, so no, one is not “a lot better”than the other. Both outdated, boring and too “in your face”. WRS comes off as much more likeable than MBD, though.

Exactly. And that likeability comes from the fact that WRS is not pretentious and MBD thinks he’s invented the wheel when his song is as dated and cliché.

He sounded amazing, exactly like the studio cut! I wish him the best and I really hope he qualifies! It is a bummer hes in the second semi final because i think it wouldve been really easy to go through if he was in the other but oh well.. Still hoping !
