Things are heating up in Turin, where Spain’s Chanel has taken to the stage for her Eurovision 2022 second rehearsals. The Benidorm Fest champion performed another run-through of “SloMo” on the PalaOlimpico stage. Did she make us want more, more, more, more? Let’s take a look…

Spain’s Chanel “SloMo” — Eurovision 2022 second rehearsal

Oliver: A slight revamp of “SloMo” comes with new classic Spanish fanfare during the intro, and once again before the final chorus. It’s an unnecessary addition, but a welcomed one — it adds a hint of Iberian flavour to the already sizzling performance. The stage show is very similar to that at Benidorm Fest, with a few subtle tweaks — the lighting moves through gentle and sensual hues of orange, yellow and red, and the pyro shower rains over the stage in the final chorus. Chanel’s new matador outfit reveals to a skintight bodysuit during the dance break, which she nailed perfectly as expected. She’s also been working on her vocal agility; there are now more chances for her to show off her voice with more melismas and trills throughout. Nothing negative to say. She nailed it every time. Chanel is an athlete, and a superstar in the making.

No ganará…

I just love how, for once, Spanish fans are going nuts over their ESC entry. Some tweets reported that Chanel’s full rehearsal was leaked online, but luckily I haven’t come across said clip. Needless to say, we’ll be on tenterhooks right until the very end! 😀

Last year “Adrenalina” was overhyped too by the community, and it bombed hard. And yes, I haven’t forgotten “Fuego”, but that one had fire, this here is just stupid and repetitive.

No offense to Adrenalina but Slo mo and Chanel is light years ahead. Just from the small snippets ive seen, from the new mix of the song with the spanish horns that ive heard, and the amazing choreo i can tell you that this is unforgettable

Trying to predict anything based on ‘last year’ is not knowing much about Esc. If the ‘last year’ rule applies when comparing songs of similar genres and styles, how come then that Manneskin won the year after Duncan did? If this ‘last year’ rules apply, the winner this year must be The Rasmus isnt it?

Last year, the year before that… Always comparing songs just because they are uptempo. Why dont you compare Greece and The Netherlands this year or Duncan and Poland? This comparisons seem to always occur with woman. I have never read of a male singer being called the whoever 2.0.

I was afraid the stage would maybe be too dark, but it turns out everything is look great on camera. And as we know, the whole dancing routine is very impressive for first time viewers. It will be interesting to see how this kind of bop still can do in Eurovision. Many say the audience moved on from the style, but this is so polished and effective and the only direct competition is Albania, much more on the chaotic side of things.

True. Last year we had seven highly promoted and polished female bangers – Malta, Cyprus, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Greece, Croatia, Israel. This year, there’s only two (three, if we are counting Ireland, but in a way it’s more like a female version of Germany 2021 or Iceland 2021 than a ”serious banger”). Spain has an open door to easily nab a top 10 score after sever years of doing poorly. I really hope they’ll do it! They followed everything I gave as an advice. I seriously don’t know what more. Good luck, Spain!

Considering “She Got Me” got 4th place (also in a year without much direct competition on the bops’ field), I don’t see why “SloMo” can’t at least repeat the result.

She’s a star for sure. I think because everything feels so similar to the National final performance that it lacks the immediate impact we had there when everyone was blown away. A bit of the novelty has worn off—but still—for most viewers, this will be the first time they see Chanel and SloMo. It doesn’t feel like the winner at the moment but I can’t see this not getting top 10 or 5 even. Last year with all the female bops it would’ve gotten lost. But there’s no one doing this kinda song (performance) this year.

Because Jennifer lopez is Jennifer lopez and Chanel is Chanel. And also succes in charts is different from succes in a competition like eurovision. Even if slomo doesnt become a worldwide hit that performance is still gonna be one of the best performances ever at eurovision

I have watched some images of this second rehearsal and it reminds me of Euphoria. Not the song itself obviously but as with Euphoria the performance does not look like a live act. When I saw Loreen’s performance back in the day, she didn’t seem to be performing in the same stage as the rest of the contenders. I had the same feeling with Chanel.

I can’t believe my eyes. I’m so proud of this team. Finally a professional performance where eveything is locked up from the beggining. From what we’ve seen, I think Spain has the complete pack. Ukraine is winning obviously but if Cyprus came 2nd in 2018 I don’t see how Spain can’t place 3rd. Also, it is bringing something new to the table. A latin flavoured track with a JLo-ish show while still preserving its originality. Best choreography on the Eurovision stage to date too. It’s not that I want Ukraine to win, tho. It is just they are going to receive a massive televote because of mostly sympathy votes and the jury will back them too (not the winner with the jury but a top 5-10 placing). I hardly see any other country winning, even though there are at least 5 or 6 that will deserve it better by judging just the performances. But you know… there’s a war in Ukraine. I hope I’m wrong. But at this point, I want to interiorized it before we get the disappointing result.

Yeah it can definitely get a Top5, but I expect that differences will be quite small this year, so Top10 feels much safer to predict. Still likely to get Spain’s best result since 2003 – that’s pretty impressive for the very first year of Benidorm Fest imho.

So much to like about this entry and appeal all over the place. Juries will eat this up and it’s going to have massive success with the televote. Honestly, it should probably be the favourite in the bookmakers right now. It really does have everything and, for me, is the safest bet you can make inside the songs currently in the top ten.

I personally feel less less less less less, after each performance. Also, the fact that you compare her potential running spots to past LEGENDS, not just winners, of this contest is downright hilarious. The entire Europe will decide Chanel’s fate in May 14th, not just one nation. Just like everybody elses. 😉

I still wish you luck however and may see achieve the result you so hope for. The song is just not for me but I’m just one person out of 200 million viewers.
