They sang, they slayed, they qualified. And immediately after Semi-Final 1 of Eurovision 2022, the Semi-Final 1 qualifiers attended a press conference inside PalaOlimpico.
After expressing how happy they were and fielding questions from journalists, they took a short walk to a glass bowl where they drew “first half” or “second half” in the grand final running order. Following Semi-Final 2 — when all 25 finalists are known — producers will create the precise running order. They want to make the show as interesting as possible for viewers. But they also have to consider practical matters — like the amount of time it takes to move certain stage props on stage and off.
Here’s what we know about the grand final running order following Tuesday’s press conference. Automatic Qualifiers France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom drew their starting half on Saturday.
Traditionally, the host country draws its precise spot at random prior to all other competing nations. Italy did so back in March. Mahmood & Blanco will perform ninth in the grand final.

It was so untasty for Switzerland to swear during conference. How he acted.. I don’t like the song after this
Spain is the perfect opener.
Its not yall just dont want Spain to do well
People here wishing Spain or Ukraine to open? That’s. not. gonna. happen.
Just came back to say I was right… they got the best 2 places of the 1st half! I am reslly happy because I hate haters.
Ukraine will be ideal to open the final.
Ukraine to open.
Petition for Spain to open the show 🙂 I don’t want booty hypnotic song to win the esc
I perfectly aeree.
I don’t mind about the song being booty; I mind for its being boring…
And i dont want boring ballad one two or three to win
Probably we gonna have a big surprise with Portugal saturday night Just a feeling.
There is an error in the article !!!!
Iceland is in 2nd half of Grand final
What do you mean? Like the fact people are saying it’s odd Wiwibloggs can’t see why Albania NQ’ed? They were always very overly positive with things they liked and kinda ignore flaws of entries they like a lot. Albania NQ’ing makes complete sense and most people know why.
So Wiwibloggs does exactly the same as everybody else? That is, being very overly positive with the songs they like.
I’m telling you how it “would” be, basically because I saw it last year.
How many French complained about Wiwis constantly talking about Barbara Pravi? Zero!
Here you have your answer.
Armenia is giving me from the beginning some strong “Chameleon” vibes. I really don’t know why. I think they’ll open the final.
I’ll tell you why: Because Rosa quite probably has the biggest prop in the show, and they want to get it out of the way before they deal with the other, smaller props. She could be saddled with an 18th-to-23rd-place finish as the opening act. 🙁
On the other hand, she could be given a spot that comes before a break, where they’ll have time to move that bedroom prop off the stage.
Laura will probably still have to come on before it to get the thing on, though.
As someone who worked with props I can tell you that you never open with a prop. Either last if it is a big prop or before/ after a break
They had Sweden open both the semi and the final in 2017 because of the treadmills but that was an exception.
I think the opener will be either Norway or Ukraine. Armenia, due to their big prop, will perform before/after a break
By the way, I just watched Spain’s performance of Chanel by videos taken by the stands. MOST OVERRATED ENTRY EVER by Wiwibloggs, I must say and it’s not even just my opinion. I mean, what’s all the fuss about the staging at the finale, unless the camerawork is pitch-perfect (an extremely difficult task, considering the poor camera work of SF1), I doubt this will get as many votes from the televote as many people believe now. A top-10 is the sky limit for Spain.
More like, realistic. 😉
Your first comment completely agree with.
I’m a spirit from your wildest nightmares…
Sorry to say that but Wiwi bloggs has become UER’s pet somehow, they are totally biased just to befriend delegations and get exclusive coverage amd interviews.
From a journalistic point of view, i barely rely on them.. mostly come here for the comments because lots of you ppl are great
I think Spain will place 9th or something. IDK could be lower or could be higher. They are not of the countries I’m considering for the win. The options imo are:
We definitely don’t have chances of winning anymore. Amanda was excellent but unfortunately, it seems that the televote will unlikely agree that our song is that great in the Grand Final. So, we still hope for a top-10 finish in the end, which will be more thst great for us. 🙂
Reply to my most recent original comment: I’ve made a ton of grammatical and vocabulary mistakes that I only have noticed just now. I should probably stop typing late at night. :’)))
I think that she could come second, but she won’t win.
Well then apparently this is something Spain might have in common with Greece this year.
It’s a very strong year it will be a pity to give the trophy to politics.
Has happened….a lot of times in the past….in a less obvious manner.
Politics is arguing over tax or inflation rates.
Let people vote whoever they want
So apparently in this chat, and according to the downvoting, people don’t like democracy.
Ukraine already won with political song. They will do it again, from political reasons
It would be politics is no televote was involved. People will vote for whatever they want to win. So it’s not politics, it’s public choice.
There will be many victims of the odds this year . Look up odds of previous years and see how wrong the bookies have got it before. I’m just wonder who currently in the top 5 favourites to win will actually finish close to the bottom ??
Last year Måneskin were fav by bookies, the year before Duncan. What are you talking about?
Indeed. Duncan was the wire-to-wire favorite (from mid-March to the Grand Final) when all of the national qualifiers were done.
Look it up
Ukraine 2016, Israel 2018, Portugal 2017, see it for yourself
Russia was the favourite in 2016 and Australia was ahead of Ukraine in odds before the Final that year: Cyprus was the favourite in 2018 from the day before the First Semi Final but Israel 2nd in betting at that time and had been the favourite beforehand. Italy became the favourite in 2021 after rehearsals, Malta was the favourite for weeks beforehand.
Totally true, that’s why this years winner it’s still a surprise, the odds can help to predict it but that doesn’t mean there can’t be changes, and this year we just saw 3 countries defeated by the odds.
Honestly sometimes people stare themselves blind at polls as if they are experts. Wins are incidental, not because polls make them winners. In 2016 and 2017 they both predicted the biggerst winners ever and none of them won. And in this year they predicted Lithuania to have only 44% chance of qualifying.
I see four of my most favorite entries of the year are in the second half (I wish Iceland was also with them), I cry tears of JOY! :’D 😀
Iceland is in the 2nd half of the grand final lol. The article has an error.
Imagine if Sweden gets first half on the draw, a fan favorite bloodbath!
As for all we know of the RO so far, it’s safe to imagine Ukraine and Norway will get to perform as early as possible, the Netherlands will perform 10-13 and Armenia will perform close to a break.
I hope this the running order for the first half
8.Semi 2 slot
11.Semi 2 slot
12. Semi 2 slot
That is a good one, I agree
I really hope Maro doesn’t get slot into one of 1-5 spots, especially 2nd.
I’m pretty sure S10 is going to perform in one of the 10-13 spots, since the producer who’s deciding the running order is Dutch.
I’m a bit scared for Portugal, actually…
I think the same, but also Netherlands is one of the favorites for the top 10 (probably got a good placement in SF too)
Same here. I worry for Maro. Raw deal if she goes very early.
Who is the Dutch who decides the running order?
I have seen an picture of him but I don’t know his name, unfortunately. But everyone is saying the producer in charge of the running order is Dutch.
I would love to see in the first half:
I do not think in any capacity Ukraine won the semi last night, had to be either Greece or Netherlands. but otherwise I agree with the list
Seeing how Netherlands was last announced I think they won. If Ukraine was the big favourite I think they would have been announced earlier..
Norway will probably open the Final it’s fun and it is safe enough to be sacrificed. Ukraine will be put towards the end of the 1st half. All of Europe is expecting to see the Ukrainian performance. Producers know if the put it at the beginning, it’s gonna kill the show. Ukraine and Spain will be around 10-13. Hopefully so will the Netherlands (that’s a personal opinion). Armenia will perform before a break so 5-10.
If Sweden draws first as well, it will complicate things further?
Maybe I’m off topic but Diodato’s performance was the best thing happened to Eurovision 2022, if not to Eurovision in general.
Yes, it was genial
France today is the dark horse of the competition. the bookmakers are killing france as if there is no top 10 potential. in truth I see being Ukraine in 1 or 2 . Spain in 1 or before Italy so as not to overshadow Italy. Armenia 6th or 7th position to take a break and maybe France 12th 13th to be far from Ukraine for not having 2 ethical songs. Moldova closed the show. on the other hand, how are they going to do if there are 8.9 rides in the final?
8 or 9 ballad song in the 2nd part of the evening sorry
All we need is Sweden to get 1st half and there you go…CHAOS
Yes, please. Manifesting
This has to change, there should be only 10 papers in the pot for each SF with 5 1st half and 5 2nd half so it would assure balance between SF1 and SF2 in the grand final running order and not having again a 1st half with almost all qualifiers from SF1 and 2nd half with qualifiers from SF2
The whole draw should be done random as it use to be Doris
No. We’ve evolved since then. No chance of randomly getting five ballads in a row.
but why does that matter? the draw for which semi is totally random so trying to guarantee a split of each in each half doesn’t make any sense…?
I thought eurovision fans wanted it more randomized instead of less randomized? What’s the point of that. People can get lucky or unlucky in both situations just as likely. Also in years where the big 5 wins it’s still uneven.
I feel like this is not the first year where it feels like all the “bookie favorite ballads” are put in the 2nd half while “fun” entries like Norway and Spain are put in the 1st half… I know its a random draw but it maybe it shouldnt be. Maybe the two sides are becoming too uneven.
So the producers should decide?
Unsure. Maybe there could be a system where if it seems too uneven, or like 10 ballads in a row, there could be a redraw if enough artists agree to it.
I really hope Spain or Norway don’t kick off the show, as I have bets on them both lol.
Bets on Norway for what? Haha
FIVE female ballads qualified from the first semi, all competing for sweden’s same audience. it’s not looking too good for them.
now all we need is for sweden to also draw 1st half !
I dont know if its just me but i didnt find Ronelas performance scandalous at all. It wasnt like she was on stage in just her panties. I feel like europeans are starting to go back in time to the victorian era where if a woman even dares to show her legs that shes a “wh*re”
Yall propably wouldnt love Amanda so much if she wasnt on stage covered from neck to toe. I like Amanda but im realistic that people will instantly downgrade a woman, especialy at eurovision, if she isnt fully covered
People went wild for S10 though, and out of all the contestants she is most at risk of a nip slip.
Performance was just crap. That’s it, really. No hidden reasons
I agree the performance want the greatest, but the way people were screaming “SCANDALOUS, WHAT ABOUT OUR CHILDREN, THIS IS A FAMILY SHOW” like she wasnt on stage performing oral. Its just a pattern that the male performers can go on stage at eurovision half naked grinding on women but the moment a woman is not standing still behind a microphone then its a scandal
It was just intense and not fun. It’s cool to be sexual but she was angry and sexual. The outfit was let’s be honest: Trash. The shoes were trash, the camera angles were bad the lighting was dull and did nothing for the song and neither did the staging. There was simply nothing worth voting for. For both jury and the public.
I actually like (don’t mind) sexy and open performances when they are produced nicely and professionally, but Albanias one for me felt just vulgar, not professional or impressive in any way.
I actually like (or don’t mind) sexy and open performances as long as it is done professionally and with the taste. Ronelas performance to me and my friends was just vulgar with no taste, is all. I don’t think that europeans are going back in time, but aesthetics and good taste really matters.
I watched it last night with people (millenials & boomers) who watched all the acts for the first time, and they didn’t even noticed that Ronela touched her punani. The bad vocals and dancing put them off. She was out of breath within 45 seconds. I love Ronela though! I really wish she went for staging that matched the ethnic and mysterious vibes of the song & music video: red & black color palette (like the flag), the big red dress from the music video with a reveal into a dance-appropriate black leather outfit, regular microphone, and choreography that evolved… Read more »
I’d like San Marino to open the final!
Am I the only one here who finds the UK song a bit overrated? It bores me tbh
Compared to some other entries, no. There’s a lot of other entries I find “overrated” this year but I’d get bashed to death if I named them. And I also think nearly every entry this year seems to be overrated to some people but not to others.
In relation to the betting odds, sort of. I don’t think the UK will come top 3, but in the lower half of the top 10.
The UK will have similar fate with Molly in 2014… also fun fact: last year embers was performing much better than space man on streaming platforms…
I think what someone considers overrated or ‘boring’ is a very subjective opinion. What you find boring and overrated, someone else might not because everyone is different and sees things differently. Your subjective opinion is not objective fact, same as everyone elses. You’re probably not the only one, but at the end of the day, all that matters is you will vote (if you vote that it is) for what you like not what you don’t like, same with everyone else. That’s the point of the competition I guess.
I don’t know a single person that loved/cared for “Space man” when they heard it the first time. And I got the impression that even within the fandom the first response was lukewarm. Then Sam had good live performances and that one well produced video in the empty warehouse and the Brits hyped it like crazy (understandable they rarely get quality and Sam is very likeable). But I think the biggest hype comes from Brits who are also the ones betting on it, that’s why it’s rising in the odds. Don’t think it will make the Top 5 but maybe… Read more »
Given those who have qualified for the Grand Final, I do have some thoughts. Albania’s NQ is quite surprising, given the fact that Ronela did have a huge fan backing before the Semi Final and even though the performance was far from great, the public support would of been enough for Ronela to qualify even as a borderline qualifier. IMO this believes that the Jurors did not gravitate to Ronela at all which is peculiar. Following on from point 1, Albania’s NQ this does lead me to believe that Ukraine didn’t do as well with the Juries than some predicted… Read more »
Nice thoughts. I want to reply:)
1: Albania was a mess overall. Not even sure if audience liked it
2: Knowing juries and their dislike of ethnic entries and rap they probably were lower top 10 in their rank.
3: Yes they did well with jury but also some love from audience since jury support alone is not enough
4: Weak vocals couldnt help this song who probably was borderline in both groups.
In 2021 Ukraine won the televote in semi final 1 , was second overall, and was announced as the last qualifier
Yes but, the record shows that I said Usually not everytime.
Portugal no fue ninguna sorpresa , solo mira los números de escuchas en iTunes (3) de toda la semi , sumale el jurado….no hizo menos de 5 puesto…..si la pones donde quieres la matas
Why not start Eurovision with Norway (moon) and end it with the UK (Space)?
First half of the final is gonna be STACKED!
It’s just avoiding spot #2 this year. The running order, considering this year’s actual high quality in balads and upbeat songs, won’t be such an issue as previous editions. It’d be great to see UK, Spain, Portugal or Greece winning, OK to see Sweden, Netherlands, Italy or Serbia, but please not Ukraine… I’m sure Kalush Orchestra are perfectly aware of the pity triumph that would mean.
I think the time has come already to ask this: Is there actually anyone willing to see Ukraine winning this year? I mean, actually willing that to happen and not just resigning because of the situation?
With all due respect to Ukraine and Kalush Orchestra, while Ukraines song and performance is good, it’s in no way a winner. In a normal year lower top 10 would be fair. I think Ukraines basically a certain winner though, unless the juries absolutely kill it, which is very unlikely, because they’ll get by far and away the most televotes. That’s why I’m considering 2nd place as a winner tbh, as this would probably win in any other year, and this country will also probably host Eurovision next year, given the situation. Please don’t take this the wrong way, I… Read more »
ideal running order
15=> sf2 qualifier
16=> sf2 qualifier
17=> sf2 qualifier
18=> sf2 qualifier
19=> sf2 qualifier
22=> sf2 qualifier
23=> sf2 qualifier
Yep, I’d be happy with that too, but are they gonna let Ukraine open (I think they should).
Have you forgotten Portugal? Where will you place them?
I dont understand eurofans… Many here complaining that if Ukraine wins is not fair because it would be a solidarity win but at same time hoping their favourite song is placed in a position which gives them more chances of winning. If the running order has anything to do with the success of the song in the Festival it is more or less the same as Ukraine winning for sympathy votes that is, to win because of something not directly related with the song itself.
Well we know Switzerland made it easier for organizers to put in second position ?
after seeing the semis’ running orders, i can see them putting norway 2nd
Portugal or France, as not favourites to win but still good songs, can be a good opener
Ukraine and Spain are top 5 in the betting odds so its extremely unlikely that they will open the show
But of they draw the first, then I will be in Space, maaaaaaan.
Could you imagine if also Sweden picked first half? It would become a bloodbath of favorites XD.
Norway probably opening the final. The family friendly act of the year, the one that can generate more social media interaction. It’s easy to imagine all the memes and reactions this can provoke, and I think they want that.
It’s too tryhard to make memes about that performance though. What is there to meme? “Haha funny wolfman sang banana”?
Moldova is climbing the odds like crazy. Currently sitting at 12th
It has potential. Many of my friends liked it. I find it too ethnic, folklore, and cheesy, but I can’t deny that it is fun and nice to watch. Potential top-10 finish, if not higher.
It won’t finish that high, but probably higher top 10 with the televote
I’m not in favour of the organisers deciding who goes where to give the show more impact and momentum. It sound be a blind draw immediately after SF2.
Ukraine, Norway and Spain all on as early as possible, France and Portugal both late first half (10th to 13th), would be ideal.
If I were the boardcaster, the perfect running order with the current 15 qualifiers would be: First Half: 1st Norway (the most familial and friendly entry) 2nd Armenia or Germany (non-favorite ballad) 3rd Ukraine (to keep the unaccustomed audience curious) 4th (2nd semi qualifier) 5th (2nd semi qualifier with a different type of music than 4th) 6th Switzerland 7th Spain 8th Armenia or Germany (the one who does not pass 2nd) 9th Italy 10th (2nd semi qualifier up tempo if it is possible) 11th Portugal 12th France 13th Netherlands —————– Second Half: Iceland between 14th and 16th (surely barely qualified)… Read more »
I agree with that, especially keeping Ukraine early as possible.
Germany coming 2nd would be the best way to lose very early a not-so-curious audience. The song is not bad but not appealing either.
Armenia or Ukraine would be safer bets for sure.
And yes for Norway as an opener.
From the countries drawn 1st half so far, I think Armenia would be a solid choice to open, maybe not the typical song they normally chose but it would be an upbeat start and wouldn’t get to much hate from fans being picked to perform 1st, for various reasons I just struggle to see them picking Ukraine, Norway, Spain and France to open.
As things stand, it’s better to be in the first half which is a bloodbath, all attention will be focused on it, there are only ballads in the 2nd half except Moldova which will close the show. If Sweden joins the first half, it’s going to be carnage and I’m not even sure it benefits the UK. The results are going to be very close.
It’s between France, Ukraine and Norway to open, I’d say put Ukraine first. They’re first in the betting odds and they may get some sympathy votes, so if they win while having performed first then it’s deserved and no one can complain about that. Besides, it’s a banger song to start the night with.
How is that about Ukraine? If they perform first and they win is because people liked the song and there are no solidarity votes.
If they perform 12th and win then it is because of sympathy votes but people dont like the song?
Since we almost know all of the countries in the 1st half of the Grand Final, I have made my own list in which order I would like them to appear to give me the best show (considering artists will be using the same props):
first half have 13 songs and second half 12 this has to be because more 1st halves have been picked so far.
Netherlands came top 3 with Jury and possibly even televote , it will probably get position 10.
