Juice your mangoes and be sure to stretch: Spain’s Chanel is our readers’ favourite to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
Last week, after all 40 Eurovision 2022 acts completed their second rehearsals, we asked our readers to vote for their favourites. Over the six days we recorded a total of 24,472 votes.
Spain’s Chanel wins our Eurovision 2022 poll
The Spanish songstress earned 3,282 votes — or around 13.4% of all votes cast. She danced her way to the top with slick choreography that embodies empowerment and self-belief. She knows her powers and sings that she is always ready “to break hips, break hearts” and lets you know that her “boom boom” can get him going “zoom zoom” for her “yummy.” Don’t believe her? Then watch her move and “take a video – watch it slo mo, mo, mo…”
In second place we have the United Kingdom’s Sam Ryder, who earned 2,720 votes — or 11% of all those cast. The Essex-based star has turned the tide of negativity against Eurovision in his country. Standing in a three-piece structure that resembles a launch pad, he pays homage to Freddie Mercury, Elton John and David Bowie, while working his unrivalled falsetto and some very long golden locks. This song is all about appreciating what you already have. Why shoot yourself into space when everything important to you is already at home?
Rounding out our Top 3 is Sweden’s Cornelia Jakobs with her pop-folk ballad “Hold Me Closer”.
She pleads with her beloved to hold her one last time before they split — a conscious but painful uncoupling that leaves our girl contemplating what it means to find the right one at the wrong time.
At the climax of her song everything pops off — expect smoke, lasers and a supercharged Cornelia letting those emotions flow.
There was a problem where you pasted another Spain video where the United Kingdom video was supposed to be. Please edit it!
Shame we were robbed of a good contest just like these three were robbed of a win due to politics.
Juries are definitely gonna save the UK. I wonder if public will boost Ukraine by a lot???
Serbia my favorite
oh my god Spain has been AMAZING. My new number 1 ?????
Norway made me emotional after a 5 month journey of me connecting to this song and act. Man they could not be anymore first for me this year! BTW I got the feeling TIX is in the DJ suit tonight.
Armenia has my 2nd fav stage in ESC history. Australia 2019 has my 1st.
It’s revealed that it’s not tix in the suit
Man Portugal gives me chills. I hope their public score won’t be too too bad. Czech was better in the semi but still good here. Good job! : )
I kinda feel sorry about Domi
The camera work is tragic so far . What a weak opening parade also
It’s really poor, they’ve had weeks to get this right.
Come on Sam here’s hoping for our best result in 20 years. Good luck to everyone
The epilepsy in the flag parade is not my favorite thing but it was dope besides that haha.
We very nearly had an issue in the UK transmission today on the BBC, as the FA Cup Final overran. But I think it’s fine now. The penalties are over and the medals and cup are being handed out right now. Close call!
They had to change the start time because of Eurovision in case it went to penalties!
They were right. 🙂
The two most streamed songs on Spotify yesterday outside of their home countries were Sweden and Ukraine, and by a large margin. Incredibly, they were tied with 468,000 international streams each.
Two toasts, some water the TV and we’re set. 20 minutes to the show have a nice evening everyone!
have landed on songs #15 and #16 for my toilet break and snack/beer refill
It’s a pity Ireland aren’t in the final. Both swedish and Polish commentators made negative comments about Ireland. Is there any rules in relation to that? Seems unfair
Polish commentator: I think that we clearly see that Ireland’s Eurovision years are behind us.”
That may be true but Poland haven’t exactly covered themselves in glory since they joined ESC 28 years ago, their record is pretty poor and it will be a very long time before they have 7 wins under their belts.
Swedish Commentator: ” She’s trying to be Dua Lipa, but on an Irish budget”.
Not gonna lie that one is pretty funny 😀
It is… for a Wiwibloggs comment on a description in a You Tube video. National broadcasters on the night on the voting should be a bit more careful not to influence the voters. Sure, us fans can’t be influenced by a random comment, but perhaps some casual viewers can. *Maybe* it could be tolerated more if their country was in the other semi, but not if their voters are about to cast their votes.
It will be interesting to see the televote result in Poland and Sweden for Ireland later Tonight.
I have a hunch that both Ireland and San Marino were more successful in televoting than in the jury vote.
”Is there any rules in relation to that?” There should be. I know that Terry Wogan (rest his soul) was sadly known for making inappropriate comments on songs and performances, but I thought that was a part of the past, and that we moved on to more neutral observations by national broadcasters.
Terry presented on many jury only contests.
If televotes are watching I think it’s unfair for the commentators to be negative about an act in that way. It will impact the voting
Okay, I just listened to ”Shallow” and it’s basically the same situation as with ”Guilty Pleasure” and ”Willow”, and 95% of plagiarism accusations. People have no idea what a plagiarism is. Just because two songs have vaguely *similar* melodies and / or sing about the same topic doesn’t make one of them a copy. There are literally millions of songs, and it’s virtually impossible to avoid some of them being similar. That’s how it is. There’s a rule of number of exactly the same chords applied to determin plagiarism, and neither Guilty Pleasure or Hold Me Closer are it. In… Read more »
I honestly prefer hold me closer, shallow is a hella overrated song
The bookies is the only place where ukraine is number one. Says a lot and yet this is gonna be the undeserved winner. Ridiculous. Let’s hand them the world cup too while we’re at it. The worst winner in eurovisiom history, if they do “win” tonight. A fake win won’t make them win the war just make karma slap them bc there’s balance in the universe so good luck with that.
Crêpes, cider and “Gwenn ha Du” here 😉 Good show to everyone!
Manifesting Serbia gets the second victory at Eurovision tonight. It would really be the victory of art over politics and I would be over the moon if that happened.
Portugal – 12 points
Czech Republic – 10 points
Moldova – 8 points
Spain – 7 points
Switzerland – 6 points
France – 5 points
Serbia – 4 points
Ukraine – 3 points
Sweden – 2 points
Italy – 1 point
Great Eurovision to all!
Sweden on the other hand has one of the best entries of the decade. If it wins, i might forget how bad this year was.
It’s a great entry but lets not exaggerate lmao.
Okay, let’s agree this has already been one of the weakest years ever.
Horrible stage, boring hosts, meh songs. Italy did a very poor job organizing it, i never saw that coming. It will an absolute horrible experience if Ukraine wins. Come on, it’s far from the best song, it’s maybe in the bottom 5 songs this year. If it wins, it will be a deserved winner for this weak year…
Forgot to mention how horrible the wiwi community but also their coverage was ridiculous. bye bye
All the way UK for me this year! With an extra vote to the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway and Lithuania! Have a lovely evening, everyone!
Thank you, you too!
Good luck for all entrys; hope that Juries would not overrate Sweden’s mediocre “Shallow 2.0” song 🙂
Aside from me loving Stefan’s entry, it’s a great move to finish the Eurovision Song Contest of 2022 with HOPE! We need that! Good luck everyone tonight! 🙂
Will vote for Stefan, Ochman, Subwoolfer, S10, and perhaps 2-3 more. There are at least 10 entries I love this year. 🙂
Such a great final! But I will only vote for Subwoolfer cus I want to push them to a televote win as much as wolfing possible.
Happy Eurovision, Colin! Have a fabulous night 🙂
Thanks, Jimmy! You too. 🙂
So sad to see Cyprus, Albania and Ireland in the results
Get over it..Next year another chance..
69 minutes left until the grand final begins!!! Let’s go!
Tan de’i 🙂
Ukraine is the best song by far, and a worthy winner.
Someone had a bet or semi drunk from this comment?
Only 2 more hours, can’t wait
Here’s hoping for a great show, here are my points (from Ireland):
Greece 1 point
France 2 points
Armenia 3 points
Ukraine 4 points
United Kingdom 5 points
Iceland 6 points
Poland 7 points
Sweden 8 points
Italy 10 points
Netherlands 12 points
Since 2015, Irish jury never gave any points to Italy’s entries. Hope that this year they would give 🙂
That’s true, Irish juries tend to favour the Nordic countries, tonight I expect their 12 pts to go Sweden. The televote 12 pts will go to Poland or Lithuania.
Not bad my country didn’t make the finals now i can see everyone worrying about the final without worry 🙂
WOW “Saudade, Saudade” is on the viral charts of 25 countries!!!
Italy, Norway, Romania, Moldova, Greece and Portugal will do better than their current odds tell. Ukraine will do as expected. UK and Sweden will drop a few spots. Top 3 will be Ukraine, Italy and Greece.
Greece and Italy will do much worse, in my humble opinion, while Netherlands will do better
Sorry but Italy would do better; Netherlands’ chance of getting televoting points descreased due to performing after Spain
Not at all… they have the best spot between Spain and Ukraine..
They are really people betting on who will be last?! It shouldn’t exist and shouldn’t be allowed, it’s such a disgusting thing, the person who has opened this market is disgusting and to bet on who will be the most unlucky and will be the saddest tonight it’s so so disgusting, so meh,PERIOD. Of course there will be a last place and a bottom 5 at the end but what the aim to insist on this and moreover to bet on this. What are thinking Germany and Switzerland for example now seeing that? They think this esc sphere is the… Read more »
Take it easy. It’s just Eurovision.
Just? Not something crucial to the future of humanity… like soccer?
indeed, am now watching Liverpool-Chelsea… will afterwards seemlessly transition to Eurovision. Both existential necessities.
You make some good points but a lot of countries think it “unfair” that, for example, Switzerland qualified at all. I think they even surprised themselves. It’s only a bit of fun and 4/1 to finish last might be a good bet.
There is no such thing as a good bet.
As I’m from Germany, I can tell you that us being last has become a running gag here most people aren’t really mad about because we actually suck every year 😀 At least it’s some kind of tradition instead of just being completely forgotten…
Musically Spain would a really weak winner honestly
Depends with what you mean by musically.
Fair play to Brooke! Her whole journey was so nice to watch.
Hope the Swedish “Shallow” doesn’t win.
Sweden has overtaken the UK in the odds. And it is nothing like Shallow. No resemblance at all except that both singers have personality and a strong voice. But Ukraine is most likely going to win.
Well it worked for “Lovers On The Sun”!
Spain, Sweden, Serbia and UK really give off winner vibes. I hope they make it to Top 10 positions in the event that Ukraine wins, anyway. Fingers crossed and may the best song win! 😀
lowkey greece and lithuania do too
I just bought some more bananas. Just in case.
Yum yum ?
Yum Yum indeed!
For me. Serbia, Spain and UK is the song who have WINNER VIBES.
Between Serbia and Portugal for me but doubt either will win. Spain and Uk should be up there. A Ukraine win would be cool, cannot wait to see there televote.
My Top songs are & were.
Sweden, Austria, Greece, Malta, Spain, Ireland, UK,
There are a lot of others I love too.
I was so sad when Malta, Ireland & Austria especially didn’t get through, as it was a really catchy song. ?
How were the results of last years polls?
I looked for 2021 poll and brought these results:
1 – Malta (15,7%)
2 – Italy (12,3%)
3 – France (7,19%)
4 – Lithuania (7,16%)
5 – Switzerland (6,75%)
6 – Ukraine (6,00%)
7 – Serbia (5,40%)
8 – Finland (4,71%)
9 – Cyprus (4,17%)
10 – Iceland (4,12%)
Last poll winner finished 7th, thanks to 3rd position of juries, out of top10 of televote.
Russia and Greece entered in top10 instead of Serbia (9th in tele) and Cyprus (16th).
I love serbia this year!so powerful!!

Italy: Mahmood & Blanco – Brividi 2.Switzerland: Marius Bear – Boys Do Cry 3.Ukraine: Kalush Orchestra – Stefania 4.United Kingdom: Sam Ryder – SPACE MAN 5.Moldova: Zdob ?i Zdub & Fra?ii Advahov – Trenule?ul 6.Poland: Ochman – River 7.France: Alvan & Ahez – Fulenn 8.Belgium: Jérémie Makiese – Miss You 9.Netherlands: S10 – De Diepte 10.Czech Republic: We Are Domi – Lights Off 11.Estonia: Stefan – Hope 12.Armenia: Rosa Linn – Snap 13.Australia: Sheldon Riley – Not The Same 14.Norway: Subwoolfer – Give That Wolf A Banana 15.Germany: Malik Harris – Rockstars 16.Greece:… Read more »
you have the 3 best songs all near the bottom… portugal, serbia, and lithuania
i´ve listened a lot of times to all the songs, but Lithuania sounds very boring to my ears ( i was and still i am a big fan of THE ROOP), usually i love the portuguese entry, but…..not this year. Serbia is kind of interesting, maybe it climbs up a little tonight. but this year the spanish and swedish songs are the worst to my ears.
Be realistic; Juries would not give points to Serbia’s absurd song
My brother in Christ, what is this….
(Just kidding, tastes vary as always)
People seem to be forgetting about France and that makes me sad, because I love the song and want to see it do well. I hope it surprises. I hope Ukraine doesn’t win. Politics aside, it just isn’t a song worthy of a win. Sweden, Spain and most of the other favourites are all better songs. I personally don’t find the UK’s song anything special but I hope they get a good result and are finally able to start getting rid of its negative reputation in the country. It’s really interesting to see Serbia emerge as a late stage favourite.… Read more »
When we say X countries will do better than expected, expected from who? Expected from the bookies, expected from this biased fandom, wow such a good references! Come on lol, think by yourselves, don’t be influenced by nobody and you will see everything will become less toxic.
Ukraine will win by a landslide.
Then in no specific order uk, greece, poland, spain, italy
