Back in May the CEO of Ukraine’s postal service Ukrposhta announced that he wanted to honour Eurovision winners Kalush Orchestra with a special stamp.
And now that’s looking a lot more likely with the launch of the “Good evening, we are from Ukraine!” stamp competition.
In an Instagram post, Ukraine Post shared that it received more than 1,500 sketches for the competition. It has created a shortlist of five designs — two of which nod explicitly to Kalush Orchestra.
The first (listed as No. 1 in the gallery below) shows Kalush Orchestra founder and rapper Oleh Psiuk wearing his Eurovision outfit, which includes his signature pink bucket hat. He’s pictured alongside a Ukrainian soldier pointing his gun.
That Oleh is holding a mic isn’t just about music. He, and his fellow bandmates, have used their platform to raise awareness about the war at home and to remind the world of the unique signature of Ukrainian culture.
The second Kalush option (listed as No. 3 in the gallery below) shows a goose wearing a hybrid hat — one half is very clearly Oleh’s pink bucket hat, while the other half morphs into military camouflage. It again suggests the significant role the group has played during the country’s darkest hour.

Ukraine Post is fielding opinions on its social networks. It will announce the results of its referendum on June 15. The stamp will be released in July.
Back in 2004 and 2016, Eurovision winners Ruslana and Jamala were also featured on special celebratory stamps.

WTF is the first one? Then talk about Eurovision not being political. Unfortunately, the Eastern countries are making it political and an state issue in favour of their nationalist agendas.

I find both quite disturbing if I’m being honest.
I’m sorry William but this is one of those very rare occasions when I cannot defend your post. What on earth were you thinking of when you decided to write this post. The sight of weapons on any stamp is objectionable and should be distanced from Eurovision and Wiwibloggs. To have a poll on the lesser of two evils is poorly judged. This is definitely one of your worst posts ever William.
We discuss here which stamp is good and which not. REALLY? There is war in Ukraine, people die, families are torn apart, chaos and violence everywhere. Need and misery among the population and we discuss stamps?

I voted for the goose. But I also quite like n°1 & n°3. These aren’t the nicest stamps ever, but not sure they deserve the nasty comments they’re getting.
Purely from a style standpoint…is that really the best they can do? To me neither one exactly has an appealing design…
