Sam Ryder continues to cement his position as a national treasure. On Sunday the Eurovision 2022 singer performed the British national anthem at the Formula One British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

Essex-based Sam made the 150,000 spectators feel both happy and glorious as he gave “God Save the Queen” a distinctly rock edge.

Sam wore an all-black number with silver embellishments that gathered near his collar. His black guitar strap seemed to nod to his Eurovision stage costume and came with a yellow sunflower, perhaps a nod to his friends in Ukraine.

To celebrate his performance, Sam’s team created a “Race Your Dreams” t-shirt, which is now available on his online shop for £35.

Writing in all-caps he tweeted: “AN HONOUR OF THE HIGHEST ORDER TO BE SINGING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM AT THE BRITISH GRAND PRIX ON SUNDAY!”

“WE’RE SO HAPPY THAT WE MADE THIS COMMEMORATIVE F1 SHIRT FOR THE OCCASION!”

The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team are feeling Sam and his music.

After his performance they tweeted that he was “spectacular.”

However, the race had been stopped already due to a nasty accident at the start. Sam Ryder got the anthem slot and gave it his all on TV, but he was more of a footnote to this huge event. This came at a time when the sport is becoming more and more popular thanks to a Netflix show, but at… Read more »

Performance looked kinda sad. Especially the ending fell flat. The F1 grid is not for musicians who want to promote their brand; has more of a b-artist feel.

His profile continues to soar!

Hopefully this will go a long way in improving the image of ESC, and set a positive prescient for future UK entries- and it could even encourage Ireland to up its game!

Just watched that clip, had to chuckle at that panicked kid behind him.

Out of interest, are there many F1 fans who read this blog?

Sex Pistols did a rock version of the national anthem and amazingly I never knew what the exact lyrics were of the 2nd line until he sung it it would have been a misheard lyrics case if I guessed so thanks for that Sam.

If only Sam had snuck in the Sex Pistols instead. Much better song.
