Summer is always the quiet period for Eurovision fans as we wait for national finals to start once again. Thankfully, the music will always continue and a number of Eurovision artists are still producing new songs for us to enjoy.

Contrary to the commonly perpetuated myth about the song contest killing careers, we’re always thrilled to report that singers associated with Eurovision are thriving.

Here is our latest weekly roundup with a selection of just some of the songs and music videos released recently by Eurovision stars.

New music from Eurovision artists: 2022 | Week 28

Andrea – “Close To The Sun”

“The song that was meant for Eurovision is finally out!” In an alternative reality, Andrea would have sung “Close To The Sun” at Eurovision 2022. But while things eventually turned out differently, the North Macedonian star has still released the song for us all. In the lyrics, Andrea says we all deserve to fly high and aim for the stars: “Close to the sun / Lift our spirits high from the ground / Elevated, faster than all our dreams / Cautiously trying not to burn our wings”.

Luca Hänni & Sarah Engels – “Ma Bonita”

Luca Hänni is adding some Spanish flair into his discography with the new single “Ma Bonita” (“My Pretty”). Switzerland’s Eurovision 2019 star teams up with German singer Sarah Engels for the sensual pop song, with the pair hoping they’ll be in each other’s arms soon: “I’ll be back soon, ma Bonita / I just want to go over to you, to you, to you / When is the plane going to you, to you, to you? / My suitcases are packed”. In the accompanying music video, Luca and Sarah aren’t actually that far a part at all. In fact, they’re staying in the exact same house and quickly dance together through the hallways.

Roxen – “NONO BAD”

With the new single “NONO BAD”, Romania’s Eurovision 2021 singer serves up a pop offering with a catchy beat in the post-chorus. Within this, there’s a message about leaving places that are bad for you. Roxen has found somewhere they feel safe and they don’t plan on leaving: “I found a piece of land in a quiet place / I’ve seen it in a dream, somehow awakened / They said it’s paradise, but I think it’s more than that”.

Barbara Pravi – “365”

It’s been more than “365” days since Barbara Pravi finished second at Eurovision 2021. After a year of concerts, the French chanteuse is now delving back into new music. Following a spoken word intro, things amp up for the chorus with a driving string accompaniment. When performed live, it’s a song that would certainly showcase Barbara’s charisma as she sings about how she utilises the days of a year: “365 days for a turn of the sun and / Me during this time I did what I could / For the rest I have time, for the rest I will learn / 365 days for hopefully years”.

ELENA feat. Sonny Flame – “Topeste-ma de tine”

Romania’s Eurovision 2009 star bring us “Topeste-ma de tine” (“Melted by you”), which features a verse by rapper Sonny Flame. ELENA is not only melting under the summer sun but also from the heat of her lover: “Melted by you every day / I dreamed you were with me and I wouldn’t wake up / Show me what love is and don’t stop / Melted by you, by you, by you / And don’t stop”. For the music video, ELENA makes use of the slightly cooler temperatures at night to head outside and party.

Sevak – “Сияй”

“So shine / Let go of the pain inside / Shine for yourself / Brighter than the stars you shine again”. Eurovision fans are well accustomed to songs that are titled “Shine”. Sevak gives us another one, though this time in Russian. “Сияй” mixes the Armenian singer’s main vocal line with some additional chanting from the Eurovision 2018 alum. The music video shares the message of the song by focusing on TikTok star and dancer Aisha Chigga. Despite wearing a wig when walking and driving around the city, Aisha eventually lets herself shine with her shaved head from the rooftops.

Edsilia Rombley – “Je Laat Me Zijn”

Edsilia Rombley is delivering a cheerful bop with the new single “Je Laat Me Zijn” (“You Let Me Be”). The two-time Eurovision contestant sings about the joy of having a partner who loves you for who you are and doesn’t try to change you. The song comes with a miniclip that sees Edsilia and some dancers enjoying themselves in a bar. You can listen to the full song on a streaming service of your choice.

Lax’n’Busto feat. Beth, Els Catarres, Adrià Salas & Ramon Mirabet – “Llença’t – Mulla’t”

Catalan band Lax’n’Busto have released a revamped version of their 2000 hit “Llença’t” (“Throw yourself out there”). For this, they’ve invited a number of other singers to feature. This includes Beth, Spain’s Eurovision 2003 star. The song retains its 2000s soft-rock feel as the combined voices share the song’s message: “I don’t want to think about what will come tomorrow / Throw yourself out there, every instant is unique / It won’t repeat itself / I feel that my heart won’t stop beating”.

Sébastien Tellier feat. Charlotte Casiraghi – “Mademoiselle”

France’s Eurovision 2008 act Sébastien Tellier is EXTATIC to announce his new EP is now out. It features five tracks, though only the first one has any lyrics (the rest are all instrumental). “Mademoiselle” features Monégasque socialite Charlotte Casiraghi, who is 11th in line to the throne of Monaco. And despite having royalty appear in one of his music videos, Tellier has still decided to keep the concept as abstract as possible – Casiraghi gets the opportunity to ride a flying shark, stroke a giant corgi, and show off her sidestep.

Koit Toome – “Stop”

Koit Toome doesn’t want the summer to “Stop” just yet. Estonia’s two-time Eurovision star keeps the season going with his new summer single in which he encourages us to seize every day: “Every day is a new beginning, is new, is new / Sometimes the wind blows, yes the wind, the wind / It’s never too late / No one will tell you to stop”. In the accompanying music video, Koit shows us how he makes the most of a day.

Gali Atari & Noifeld’s Glasses – “לאן לחזור”

Gali Atari has released the song “לאן לחזור” (“Where to go back”) in collaboration with music producer Noifeld’s Glasses. Keeping things relatively steady in the verses, the song then comes to life in the chorus and the instrumental post-chorus. Israel’s Eurovision 1979 winner says she felt an instant connection with the single:

“I felt like I was connecting to this song almost from the first listen. ‘לאן לחזור’ talks about new beginnings, a desire for self-work, conversations with God, finding the strength we have built even in days of weakness and always knowing that there is room to go back. To our home, to our loves.”

Fabrizio Moro – “La Mia Voce”

Fabrizio Moro’s latest single is “La Mia Voce” (“My Voice”), which is the title track of his EP released earlier this year. The Italian star has now shared a music video for the rock-orientated song. We see the Eurovision 2018 alum in the recording studio and performing at concerts. Lyrically, Fabrizio declares he’s not going to let others dictate what he can or cannot do: “Don’t fear / I’m not and I will not be what you want / You mustn’t / You can’t / Ignore my voice / My thirst”.

Lior Narkis – “ט”ו באב”

Lior Narkis celebrated “Tu B’Av” by releasing his new single. Tu B’Av is a Jewish holiday that celebrates love. Thus, Israel’s Eurovision 2003 act sings to his partner: “And the heart does not forget dates / Every Tu B’Av I will bring you flowers […] All my years with you / Reveal to me that I have found an angel”. Lior starts off accompanied solely by piano but the song gradually builds with the addition of other instruments.

Kaiti Garbi & Thodoris Ferris – “Ola Sta Katalogizo”

Eurovision 1993 star Kaiti Garbi has teamed up with Thodoris Ferris for the new single “Ola Sta Katalogizo” (“I blame you for everything”). The two Greek singers are feeling lonely without the other’s company and criticise each other for their pain: “I blame you for everything / That I suffer and cry / That I wither at night / That I miss you and tear up”. Despite the sadness of the lyrics, the music is rather cheery and has a lot of Greek flavour.

Ich Troje – Projekt X

Ich Troje are back with Projekt X, their first album in five years. The two-time Polish Eurovision representatives deliver 15 tracks, in addition to an intro and outro. Singer Michał Wiśniewski and composer Jacek Łągwa are re-joined by vocalist Ania Świątczak for the project that features a mixture of genres. The group discussed the creation of the new LP on social media:

“Project X was created at a difficult time for the world, when the earth stopped and we humbly had to focus on how small we are, in the face of what fate may give us. Rebellion, discord, lack of tolerance, but also the truthfulness of love will accompany you on this musical walk. Ania will charm with her voice, Michał will share his story and Jacek will make you dance. The album is not only a total, emotional mix that will make you dizzy, it is also a flashback and the present, a return that you have been waiting for for a long time.”

I just love Barbara, she is one of the best gifts given to Eurovision in recent years. This kind of gems is too rare unfortunately in this esc world so we can only respect and support.

Agreed. Unfortunately, she didn’t win (which if she did, she would have a lot more popularity to what she has now)

andrea’s song is actually really good and her voice is so interesting! i think it has more live potential than circles and would have had a better chance to qualify since circles still placed 11th and almost made it

I just love the way Barbara builds her career. Amazing, well written and produced songs. Maybe not the most commercial and following the trends but will last for long
