It’s Ram pam pam season again…or rather still!

During Finland’s national final in 2022  Bess charmed Finnish and international Eurovision fans with her entry “Ram pam pam”, securing the bronze and cementing her status as a fan favorite.

And now our Finnish angel has just made history at home with her UMK 2022 entry. “Ram Pam Pam” has officially been at the top of the radio airplay charts longer than any other song in Finnish history. Bess reached the milestone today after topping the Finnish airplay charts for the 19th consecutive week. That’s more than four months!

We’re not surprised. As wiwiblogger Padraig wrote earlier this year:

“‘Ram pam pam’ is exactly how my heart went when I heard this for the first time. Fierce, feisty, fabulous, Finnish-language pop – what more could a Eurofan ask for? Bess has delivered a self-assured rock-pop number that doesn’t give a damn.”

“That’s no easy task given that the whole song is built around a hook which, in the hands of a lesser artist, could become completely cheesy and camp. This is a foot-stomping, fist-in-the-air belter. And it’s little wonder that this is still top of Finland’s Spotify charts all these weeks after its release.”

And today is not just a big day for Bess — it’s a special day for a lot of Finnish artists.

Monday marks the final day for applicants to submit their entry to Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2023. The contest is open to all, and the final contestants will be selected by a jury of music industry professionals.

As in previous years, the jury will be led by Tapio Hakanen, YleX’s Head of Music. He’s ready to build on last year’s momentum, telling us: “UMK22 has been a great success all around, and we’re eagerly anticipating the artists and songs for this new season.”

While The Rasmus’ Jezebel captivated global audiences in the Eurovision Song Contest, BESS’s Ram pam pam was one of the biggest hits in Finland this year.

I think a lot of people confuse it with Minelli’s “Ram pam pam”. That’s why 🙂

wow that’s a huge feat. Actually it’s good news for UMK because it’s a platform for artists to have success after the show and get hits. Same thing happened with Cicciolina.
I am surprised how bess didn’t win the televoting though. I know the Rasmus have a big fanbase but Bess had the pop hit…

Sorry to distract, but YOU GUYS! I have some terrible, awful, tragic news that will totally blindside everyone. Prepare yourselves: Monaco, a country whose old broadcaster isn’t in the EBU anymore and whose new one hasn’t launched yet and who hasn’t competed since 2006…will not be competing in 2023! I’ll give you a second to pick your jaws off the ground, finish rending your hair, and call your grief counselors. Truly a tragic absence. (Seriously, I don’t understand why all the other sites even bother. Don’t bother posting anything unless they say they’re competing. Otherwise, we can kinda figure it… Read more »

Who will desert us next? Perennial contestant Luxembourg? What would a modern Eurovision be without them?

She achieved quite the feat! Sometimes I still wonder why was The Rasmus chosen instead, but hey, she’ll be our second chance winner! <3

The tragic thing about UMK in hindsight is there were some awesome songs, but very few that would’ve stood out in this year. My favorite was Sun numero or Kuma jaba but I can’t see either of them doing anything in Turin in hindsight.

I agree! And I feel weird and torn when I think about it, because those songs were awesome, yet unremarkable in this context :/

Great, I think she will do very well in OGAE second chance, OGAE France has already awarded her with their 12 pts.

One of the best entries of this whole NF season. I am happy that she still made waves after UMK.

Great to hear that! She was my favorite of the UMK competitors for 2022, and it makes me happy to see her song is liked this much by others too 🙂
