Festival di Sanremo 2023 is still four months away but the rumour mill on who might be competing at the contest is well and truly spinning. According to Il Messaggero, one of the most established newspapers in Italy, internationally renowned singer Tiziano Ferro might be making his first ever appearance as a contestant at Sanremo in 2023.

One of the biggest names in the Italian music industry, Ferro has been making his mark in both the Italian and international music scene since 2001. His first single “Perdono” brought him international fame, lighting up the charts across Europe. This was then followed with seven studio albums that have continued to bring Ferro both domestic and worldwide success.

As an artist of his scale in Italy, it would be quite a sensation for Ferro to participate in Sanremo for the very first time. No doubt the star would draw his large national and international fanbase to the show, as well as attract plenty of media attention.

Although he has never competed at the prestigious Italian music festival before, Ferro has still made guest appearances. Ferro was the “super guest” at the 2020 Sanremo Festival, a spot normally reserved for big national and international stars.

Competing at Sanremo would be another highlight in a long and established career for Ferro. But it’s not been one without its struggles. The star openly discussed his inner struggles with depression, weight issues, alcoholism and homophobia in the music industry as part of an autobiographical documentary.

Ferro came out as gay in 2010 in an interview with Vanity Fair Italy. He currently lives with his husband and two children in Los Angeles.

One of the other interesting names rumoured by Il Messaggero for Sanremo 2023 is Italian rock band Pinguini Tattici Nucleari. The group previously came third in the 2020 contest with their song “Ringo Starr”. This was the year Diodato won with “Fai Rumore” but did not get to compete in Eurovision because of the contest being cancelled due to Covid-19 precautions.

The rumoured list of participants also currently includes Eurovision 2013 star Marco Mengoni, Paola Turci, Alessandra Amoroso, LDALuigi StrangisAnnalisaLevanteMara SatteiMarcella Bella and Ghali.

Festival di Sanremo 2023, organised by Italian broadcaster RAI, will be held between 7-11 February 2023. It’s now customary for RAI to give the winner of the contest first refusal to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest.

Are you excited at the possibility of seeing Tiziano Ferro competing at Sanremo 2023? Who else do you want to appear at the festival? Let us know in the comments below.

Oh that would be amazing to see Marco Mengoni ten years after his debut at Eurovision!! L’essenziale is such a quality song! Marco is like an Italian wine, the older the better! Seeing Tiziano at the Eurovision stage would be something as well. Italy is one of the few countries which almost every year sends big stars to Eurovision. Even if they are newcomers like Mahmood in 2019, they quicky become internationally acclaimed (this year he was back as a big star). I also don’t mind keeping this trend to send to Eurovision handsome talented Italian gay singers:)

Pinguini Tattici Nucleari are responsible for my favorite NF entry ever, so I would be over the moon if they actually got a chance to go to Eurovision!

I’d love to see Tiziana there, and make it all the way to Eurovision. He tried and failed to get into Sanremo Giovanni in 1997 and 1998 so it would be the ultimate redemption arc lol
