Sweden’s MEDINA has won the OGAE Song Contest 2022 with “In I Dimman.” The feel-good dance number, which draws on pop and near Orient sounds, finished third in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen behind winner Cornelia Jakobs and runner-up Anders Bagge.

But all these months later members of the international collection of Eurovision fan clubs have voted — and they think MEDINA was the best of the rest (which is, to say, the best of the songs that competed in a national final but didn’t win).

This year’s edition of the contest was hosted by OGAE Norway, after KEiiNO won the 2021 vote with “Monument”. The OGAE clubs whose broadcaster selected their Eurovision entry using a national final were eligible to nominate one non-winning song as their entry for the Second Chance Contest.

Wiwibloggs poll results

Our completely unofficial poll, which was open to fans regardless of whether they are members of an OGAE club or not, resulted in a different winner.

We received a total of 9,098 votes.

Finland’s Bess won our poll with 12% of all votes, followed by Spain (11.38%), Italy (8.5%), and Serbia (8.05%). Sweden came fifth with our readers.

Funnily enough, Romania’s Gabriel Bosco finished last with both the official OGAE voters and our readers.

Some OGAE clubs automatically select their second-placed national final act, while others vote for their favourite from all the competing entries in their national final.

The 2022 edition brought obvious choices and surprises alike. We had many national final runner-ups such as France’s Pauline Chagne with “Nuit Pauline”, Spain’s Rigoberta Bandini with “Ay mamá” and Serbia’s Sara Jo with “Muškarčina”.

There were also several fan favourites who finished a little lower down the scoreboard like Germany’s Felicia Lu with “Anxiety” and Lithuania’s Lolita Zero with “Not Your Mother”.

You can watch this year’s show below.

OK hold on! Why was Ukraine robbed so harshly? They should have ended at least 5 places higher. Outrageous – where is the support that they need so desperately, through these fan points? They can’t survive the war like this! Shame on you, OGAE Eurofans.

They absolutely tore the house down in that Melfest final. In retrospect they would maybe have been more of an addition to Eurovision than Cornelia Jakobs was, in terms of style and genre at least. They would definitely have been an easy top-10, maybe more.

The favourite of the members should have won. I agree Finland would be the better choice, but it’s up to them.

Oh this is the eighteenth win for Sweden in OGAE Second Chance—I don’t even know why they vote — they should just call this “best song not chosen by a national final that’s not Melfest” so they just have some variety. Love that the overlap between OGAE and actual Eurovision voting has become more of a spread.

Australia, Finland, France, Italy and Albania should have made up the top5. I do love the Swedish song, and it would have been a worthy 6th place finisher in this contest.. but ALWAYS mayking Sweden the winner is just ridicilous. It just proves that the OGAE-fans cannot differ between actual song qualities and that they are just blinded by local broacaster’s staging production, so, as Sweden has the overall best production of their national final every single year, they will always win this contest, it seriously makes no sense.

It’s so hilariously painful how those pretentious OGAE people still think they’re even the slightest bit relevant, and then they elect Sweden as the winner here. It just proves those people deserve not to be taken seriously.

Have they ever said they are serious? No, it is clubs voting. Seems to me only comments on this site take it seriously and get upset their favourites did not win..

If you’re referring to me rest assured I can’t care less if they select Sweden or not. For me Sweden could win every year OGAE (or the real thing for that matter). The only point I am stressing is that almost the whole selection was horrible, including Sweden and how out of touch so-called fans are of what is going on. They had so much more to choose from…

Thank God the Eurovision fandom is no longer dominated by OGAE as their tastes are absolutely horrendous and stuck in 00’s. Their initiatives are completely irrelevant and out of touch of what Eurovision has become today. Good thing I was never a member, as I would die of shame. I just don’t understand why wiwibloggs keeps giving them visibility…

Bess should win… the best of the bunch, Medina maybe second or third… and that third place to spain is totally overrated, Rigoberta is a show of bad taste, she sould be a disaster on Eurovision

Sorry… but no.

A year with Bess, LRDL, Pauline Chagne, Rigoberta Bandini, Voyager, Sara Jo… just to give a trophy to a bad Bella Ciao ripoff?

It’s not just heartbreaking; it justs looks (and sounds) stupid.

I’ll be honest, I forgot about The second chance contest. I just had other things to deal with, like getting treated for cancer for the last couple of months (Hodgkin’s lymphoma which runs in my family).

I am actually OK considering. I got a report that the tumor in my body has significantly shrunk since I started treatment so there’s definitely progress made. Of course I’m not done and I’ll have more treatment to go but it’s going very well.

How unusual for Sweden to win OGAE… At least this is a good song. I’d prefer to see Bess win, but okay. Gabriel Basco shouldn’t have finished under Malta or San Marino. I wonder whether being featured in Netflix’s The Next 365 Days helped Lovesick gait attraction, or was the movie’s infamy against it? In any case, an okay middle-ground result. Very glad to see NorthKid cracking into top ten, sad that Sara Jo did not.

NickC

It is just my personal taste, but while Medina was great, Northkid had one of the best songs of the year. I dont know why Norwegians always pick joke entries over quality (Alexander over Rebecca, Tix over Imerika and Keiino, Subwoolfer over Northkid…) if you ask me, MGP is one national final that desparetely needs international juries.

NorthKid has an amazing entry, and I still listen to it. Same goes for Maria Mohn and Elsie Bay. MGP was excellent this year. That said, I totally understand why Subwoolfer won. It really stood out in a good way in Eurovision. The other three would have qualified and finished in top 15 too, though. It was a tough choice for Norwegians. 😉

Sorry brate, but i hated subwoolfer. Their new song is much better. But I am sure if there were international juries, Northkid or Sofia would have won, and I dare to say would have done better, with the help of juries. The other song that is completely overlooked by OGAE is the Danish one

I’m not following OhGay events because I think it has no bigger value than some random Quora or Discord. Nevertheless, I do not understand why Lithuania was so called “represented” by Lolita Zero when she was merely a third placer in the final. If anyone, it was supposed to be Auguste Vedrickaite and her song “Before You’re 6ft Under” as she was a runner-up. Guess, OhGay decided to pick a drag queen instead. This shows how subjective this whole “contest” was. :))

I’m pretty sure each branch of OGAE decides their representative on their own. Also, Lolita Zero was 2nd in the televoting and the difference between her and Monika Liu was really close. Auguste was nowhere near

The fact that shock value merchant nearly won the televote ahead of a great entry in their native language reflects very poorly on Lithuanian people and is a massive reason why ESC has such a poor reputation still.

If some other country would have sent In i dimman it would have not won. Just my opinnion, but people seem to always think Sweden has a good song, because it’s Sweden.

Domino, Cicciolina, Ram pam pam; it’s a surprise how much Finland gets kicked to the ground in ESC as well as in these OGAE contests.

I am surprised Australia, North Macedonia, Serbia, Czech Republic and Iceland didn’t do better as they were fan favourites.

Albania is so overrated, guess they voted for the guy, not the song itself.

Finland was expected to do well and I thought Italy would do better too.

This is another example of how taking part in the national final can boost your career and promote your new music. It happened with Cicciolina, the guys in 2021 and now BESS. It’s a pity she didn’t win the national final though.

Did Italy finish 3rd or 4th? Because the finnish jury gave 8 points in the first part, but also 12 with the spokesperson of finland juror who were added to France on the screen. So 240 or 244 points for Italy?
