Helsinki, Finland, 25 October 2022 — The Finale of Finland’s biggest music show, UMK – Contest for New Music, will be held at Logomo in Turku on 25 February 2023. Running all night long, the UMK23 event will showcase a wide-ranging and surprising host of contestants, who will be announced in January.

In February, Turku’s Logomo will be positively buzzing with the excitement that only UMK and Eurovision can offer. The Contest for New Music UMK will culminate in the Finale, which starts with the UMK preparty, followed by a live television broadcast, and an after-party.

During the evening, the audience will be treated to seven spectacular contestant performances as well as world-class opening numbers and intermission acts by top Finnish artists. The after-party will be held in Logomo at the UMK Club, YleX Street, and Viisudisco until 4:00am. Artists performing at the event include DJ Orkidea, VJ Hellstone, Club La Persé, and Fiona Timantti.

Tickets for the all-night UMK23 and Eurovision experience are now available at Lippu.fi/umk.

UMK23 artists will be announced on 11 January 2023

363 song entries participated in the upcoming contest and the seven finalist artists and songs have now been chosen. This year, choosing the finalists was especially challenging for the jury, which consists of music professionals.

“Expectations for this season are extraordinarily high after last year’s stunning success,” says head of the UMK jury and YleX Head of Music Tapio Hakanen.

“The seven finalists include familiar faces and new, up-and-coming talents. We have, among others, the best dance song in the UMK history sung by an unbelievably strong new singer, a song that just oozes sexuality by a well-known artist, a heartbreakingly beautiful ballad by one of Finland’s biggest export hopefuls, well-known and up-and-coming bands, and one of the hardest rap bangers in UMK history.”

The UMK23 artists will be announced on 11 January. Each artist’s song will be announced on its own day every weekday from 12-20 January 2023.

Well, just trying to bet (as my hopes for Finland are higher than ever this year!): > the best dance song in the UMK history sung by an unbelievably strong new singer: well, it’s a new singer so it can be anyone, but “best dance song”? If Tapio Hakanen aka Orkidea produces this track itself, it may be fun > a song that just oozes sexuality by a well-known artist: I’d love Benjamin Peltonen! “GAY” has been my 2022’s “Fuego” this summer. Or Antti Tuisku if he wants some additional fun in his career > a heartbreakingly beautiful ballad by… Read more »

In case any of you is curious, these are the acts that are being rumoured for UMK23, from what I’ve gathered: *Dance song: haven’t found a name so far (though despite her not being “new,” having been featured on a Europe-wide hit several years ago, I think Erika Sirola can fit this spot) *sexuality-oozing song: Isaac Sene, Evelina, Nelli Matula, Erika Vikman or Ellinoora *heartbreaking ballad: Erika Sirola, Robin Packalen, Isac Elliot or Alma (the first 2 are the likeliest, according to rumours) *Rap banger: sexmane (Isaac Sene’s brother), Cledos, william, Gettomasa, averagekidluke or ibe, but it could be someone… Read more »

Well, for the dance song I found out that Erika Sirola has been rumoured already, other names I’ve found for this spot are Lxandra and Joalin (with the latter being the likeliest of the three for this song)

NIve, Lapillus, Antti Tuisku, Beast in Black, JVG, Korpiklaani, or Robin Packalen. Take it or leave it.

I like how UMK has advanced in these few years bringing songs and artist to the Finnish music scene and abroad, hoping for a success as these introductions seem very promising!

We’ll have to wait and see if course but real kudos to Yle for their work on UMK. Finland has really impressed me in recent years and actually I would not mind if we go back to Helsinki soon…

Most likely it’ll be Tampere next time Finland hosts, Helsinki’s arena is banned bc of its r*ssian ownership

It will be 17 years since the last one Eurovision what’s 2023 comes around. If healing has the goods, then the time would be about right for another victory. That, or Iceland gets their very first long overdue win As if we’re gonna have another Nordic Victor, I’d rather be one of those two countries (Or Norway too because it will 14 years since their last victory)

Man, I have the feeling that UMK 2023 will be even better than this year’s! Finns, don’t like to brag, so seeing them this excited and confident is a good omen.

Also, judging by Tapio Hakanen’s description of the entries and acts that’ll take part, I think we’ll have 3 bands and 4 solo singers

The more a show is hyped, the less likely it is to actually be good.

But Finns hate to brag or exaggerate, they’re quite frank and they’ve been upgrading their NF since 2020, so I get your skepticism but I think they’re on to something BIG!

Personally, I’ve always said a soft spot for Finland at Eurovision and have considered them an underdog almost every year since I started following the contest ten years ago. Now “the underdog” has, in my opinion, the most fun and most technologically advanced national final in all of Europe and in the last two years has really delivered some really good songs and acts. Their social media coverage is as comprehensive as it can get, having accounts on all of the main social networking sites, and providing commentary in Finnish, Swedish, English, Sami, and Russian. YLE does all of this… Read more »

Man, Tampere 2024 already sounds pretty plausible with the little we know, I’m so excited! Finland has considerably upped their game these last years! 😀
