North Macedonia have found their groove again at Junior Eurovision. The country comes into 2022 on the back of two consecutive top-ten placings, and they’ll no doubt be hoping to continue this trend in Yerevan. Aiming to keep a good thing going are Lara, Jovan & Irina, who will perform “Životot E Pred Mene”.

North Macedoina in Junior Eurovision 2022: Lara feat. Jovan & Irina with “Životot E Pred Mene”
North Macedonian broadcaster MKRTV held auditions for Junior Eurovision 2022 at their studios in June. Initially, Lara Trpčeska and Irina Dazidovska were selected as the country’s participants by the panel. But, during the creation of their song, it was decided that another voice would bring something extra to the performance. And so, Jovan Trpčeski was added to the line-up after helping to write the lyrics alongside Lara.
Lara and Irina knew each other before their Junior Eurovision collaboration, having taken part in a number of shows together. Both are also accomplished musicians — Lara plays the violin and Irina plays the piano. Irina is additionally a member of the Piccolo Children’s Choir, while Lara enjoys ballet and theatre.
As their entry to the contest demonstrates, Jovan is less into traditional singing and is instead a keen rapper. He’s already earned some awards for his ability to spit bars, finishing in second place at the hip-hop world cup in 2018.
What do the “Životot E Pred Mene” lyrics mean?
Compared to North Macedonia’s entry last year about climate change, this year’s doo wop-inspired song is cheerful and upbeat, and its lyrics are much more light-hearted. Most of the lyrics are in Macedonian, but the second chorus is sung in English.
“Životot E Pred Mene”, which translates to “Life Is Ahead Of Me”, is about young love – or rather, holding off from young love, which is a twist on the typical love song. The lyrics show two points of view: a boy who claims that he has a girlfriend, and a girl, who is surprised to hear this rumour because she is not ready to be anyone’s girlfriend.
As the song starts, Lara sings the part of the girl: “A message woke me up / Made me furious again”. Why? Because “My friend has shown me / His “insta” post / I don’t know why he does this / Showing off in front of his friends / That I’m his girlfriend”. That’s certainly quite a surprise for anyone to wake up to.
The title of the song comes into play because of Lara’s perspective, “I have my life ahead of me / Every new day is perfect to me”, which means that for her, “I save love for another time / It’s still early for that”. As part of the post-chorus, the lyrics also get sassy when directed at the boy: “I don’t really care / For you anyway”.
The second verse, which features Jovan rapping, comes from the perspective of the boy: “She has no idea she’s gonna be mine soon / Easy as two and two, such an easy math to do”. Lara’s lyrics then respond with: “Let him dream, I won’t explain / Chemistry is what I need, rather than math”. Talk about a creative way to turn someone down.
All in all, the song is a cheerful bop that reminds us that it is OK to save love until the time is right.

Fun song underrated by the fandom again, of course it’s kid friendly and not a mainstream pop song with an heavy sound for adult clubbers so it’s underrated, predictable, as I will have the possibility to vote for 6 countries, 3 before the contest and 3 during the contest, one of my votes will go to them.
