In the last four years, Poland have secured two wins and a second place at Junior Eurovision, making them elite players at the contest — you know when Poland brings something to the table, it is in with a chance. In 2022, the Poles are hoping eleven-year-old Laura Bączkiewicz can maintain this high level with her song “To The Moon”.

Poland in Junior Eurovision 2022: Laura with “To The Moon”

“Don’t fix what isn’t broken” is definitely what Poland is going for again. As in previous years, TVP, Poland’s national broadcaster, used the competition Szansa na Sukces (A Chance for Success) as their national final to decide who will be going to Yerevan.

There were 21 competitors who took part, split into three semi-finals. For the first time in the history of the show, the ability to pick a Golden Ticket was used to determine an automatic finalist. And it was Laura who received the honour, advancing straight into the final after her performance of OneRepublic’s “Run”.

Four acts in total advanced to the grand final. Laura moved onto the final two and eventually edged out runner-up Aleksander Maląg in the head to head, grabbing top marks from the jury and the televote. This gave Laura the right to represent her nation at the 20th edition of Junior Eurovision.

What do the “To The Moon” lyrics mean?

Written by Monika Wydrzynska and Jakub Krupski, “To The Moon” is a positive, optimistic pop song. The lyrics inspire us to not be afraid and to start dreaming big. It is our time now to start dreaming — all the way to the moon and back:

Only sky will be the limit
It’s your time so please believe it
I think you’re ready now
I think you’re ready now
To dream big like

To the moon and back

Of course, Laura understands it is not easy to dream big when we are feeling down. At times we have a million thoughts in our head and every day it feels like we must start again (“You lost your breath / Your heart is maze I know it”).

However, dreaming is important. It gives us a goal, it focuses our mind. Laura says it is better to have dreams than to negatively keep saying never. It helps us grow, it helps us move forward:

How to find your way
I think it’s better
To have dreamed and lost

Than to keep saying never

“To The Moon” lyrics – Laura (Poland JESC 2022)

Lyrics by: Monika Wydrzynska; Music by: Jakub Krupski

Polish and English text

You lost your breath
Your heart is maze I know it
Your every step
Is a tiny sign of journey

How to find your way
I think it’s better
To have dreamed and lost
Than to keep saying never

Powiem ci wyraźnie jeszcze raz
Śmiało, wyżej patrz

Only sky will be the limit
It’s your time so please believe it
I think you’re ready now
I think you’re ready now
To dream big like
To the moon and back

Jak na księżyc i z powrotem
Nie bój się bo marzyć możesz
To właśnie jest twój czas
To właśnie jest twój czas
Tylko niebo jest limitem, walcz

Nie słucham już
Co mówią znowu o mnie
Ważne co ja
Przed snem myślę o sobie

Jak mam znaleźć swoją drogę
Nie wiem
Lepiej błądzić
Zamiast nie próbować przecież

Powiem ci wyraźnie jeszcze raz
Śmiało, wyżej patrz

Jak na księżyc i z powrotem
Nie bój się bo marzyć możesz
To właśnie jest twój czas
To właśnie jest twój czas
Tylko niebo jest limitem, walcz

Jak na księżyc i z powrotem
Nie bój się bo marzyć możesz
To właśnie jest twój czas
To właśnie jest twój czas
Tylko niebo jest limitem, walcz

Moon river

Na dobranoc życzę Ci
Spokojnych snów
I sił które w sobie masz

Jak na księżyc i z powrotem
Nie bój się bo marzyć możesz
To właśnie jest twój czas
To właśnie jest twój czas
Tylko niebo jest limitem, walcz

Only sky will be the limit
It’s your time so please believe it
I think you’re ready now
I think you’re ready now
To dream big like
To the moon and back

English translation

You lost your breath
Your heart is maze I know it
Your every step
Is a tiny sign of journey

How to find your way
I think it’s better
To have dreamed and lost
Than to keep saying never

I will tell you one more time
Go ahead, look higher

Only sky will be the limit
It’s your time so please believe it
I think you’re ready now
I think you’re ready now
To dream big like
To the moon and back

Like to the moon and back
Don’t be afraid because you can dream
This is your time
This is your time
Only the sky is the limit, fight back

I don’t care
What they say about me anymore
What matters to me
Is what I think of myself before I go to sleep

How to find your way
I do not know
Better to stumble
Instead of not trying

I will tell you one more time
Go ahead, look higher

Like to the moon and back
Don’t be afraid because you can dream
This is your time
This is your time
Only the sky is the limit, fight back

Like to the moon and back
Don’t be afraid because you can dream
This is your time
This is your time
Only the sky is the limit, fight back

Moon river

I wish you goodnight
Sweet dreams
And all the strength you have within you

Like to the moon and back
Don’t be afraid because you can dream
This is your time
This is your time
Only the sky is the limit, fight back

Only sky will be the limit
It’s your time so please believe it
I think you’re ready now
I think you’re ready now
To dream big like
To the moon and back

It’s a solid song to me, but also very forgettable. I think this will end up like Ala Tracz’s song in 2020. There’s not much of a motion in the JESC fandom for people towards this entry, which is greatly needed to do well in the online voting. I fear that compared to other songs from the Netherlands, Armenia, the United Kingdom and Spain… Poland will surely fall behind as a result. I don’t see juries support this song all that much either. That’s not to say I don’t like her! She’s cute and her song is nice when it’s… Read more »

Poland are strange in that they are almost always in either my top three at JESC or my bottom three, never in-between!
This holds true this year and sadly, not in the positive sense. Competition is strong this year though!

Another song written completely by adults. Why do the songs even need to be original if the goal is just to let a child perform?

I mean, isn’t it little too much to expect kids to write bilingual song that could compete on international level…?
