She’s been an independent artist ever she left Hooverphonic, and kicked off her solo career with “Not Too Late” in 2021. Now The Voice van Vlaanderen winner and Eurovision 2020 star Luka Cruysberghs has revealed that she submitted a song to Eurosong, Belgium’s selection for Eurovision 2023.She was tipped by fans as a potential entry for Flanders’ selection show earlier this year. However, the dream didn’t materialise.

As reported by Belgian media blog Showbizzsite.be, the singer told Flemish tabloid magazine Dag Allemaal that she did in fact submit a bid to VRT’s Eurosong. However, Luka and her track were not included in the list of finalists.

One of the big reasons, according to the article in Dag Allemaal, was the fact that Luka wanted to perform the song during the release party of her debut album back in October. VRT had already underlined that they did not want any of the Eurosong entries to be released prior to a certain date.

Earlier this month, Luka already hinted that she had submitted a song, after she replied to a comment music blog Dansende Beren made on her new song. Regarding a potential Eurosong participation between herself and musician Andromedik, the songstress replied:

“I tried.”

Knowing that one of the songs she performed at that one concert was likely her Eurovision 2023 bid, it is a guessing game about which track might have been a potential song for Liverpool.

Eurosong 2023 will feature seven acts and will include a series of introduction shows and a grand finale that will take place in Brussels’ Paleis12 on 14 January.

Are you sad that Luka Cruysberghs is not in Eurosong 2023? Do you hope to see her in the future? Let us know in the comments down below!

No worry, Eurovision is going to the pits and not being in ESC could very well safe ones career.

Who cares, Belgium will probably never qualify now with only televoting so why make an effort?
That said even though I do not like the way she was sacked I much prefer Hooverphonic without her. Hiring the old singer back was the best thing they did.

unless Belgium sends something That is actually good and resonates with a televote, even if it’s not your typical fare. Whether it will come from the Eurosong 2023 crop, I don’t know until the songs are out. Other factors that could screw Belgium over or any other country could be too early a running slot in the semi finals. I think the voting recap should be done backwards like it was done 2000 to 2003 so that earlier running songs can be refreshed in voters minds. I really need To do some research in every country’s qualifying rate in the… Read more »

In order for Belgium to get points from the public they’ll have to send the absolute worst garbage they have. The public don’t give Belgium points when they send good songs; only when they send garbage.

Belgium has sent garbage in the past and that didn’t get them to the final (I’m looking at you, love power, copycat, and O Julissi).

This is not all about televote, besides you can’t say that Belgium isn’t going to qualify because of the televote even if we haven’t had a song from Belgium and if I were you, I would’ve have some faith.

some people are really stupid or can’t read. the article says that eursong had rejected her and that she then released it so what with your rules are rules. she’s not doing anything wrong.

Welp, if they heard song in advance and told her “Sorry girl, we won’t take it anyway, feel free to release it” then tbh, there’s noone to blame. If she released it and hoped for special treatment then jokes on her.

I feel like 2020 artists will come to 2023 ESC …. Sadly not Luca, Ben, Little Big, Val

But One of The Mamas, Damir, maybe Ulrike, and Athena might be there 🙂

Don’t be sad, Luka. Wait until Belgium enters the war. Then submit anything, and you will win Eurovision!

As much as I could agree that Ukrainie’s support (which is understandable by itself obviously) takes away from competition, this comment is too much imo and it would be best to apologize

Haha, to who? To fans who are easily offended and chose to ignore the fact that Eurovision is a pure political event? Wake up, Dawid.

Imagine using war in Ukraine to justify that your country sucks at Eurovision and can’t produce a listenable song loooool. Ukraine was ALWAYS a powerhouse of ESC, they don’t need any sympathy to win or top high.

Jamie, what country do you think I am defending right now? Also, do you want to give credit where credit’s due? Sure, let’s do that. Ukraine did an okay job over the years. They slayed in 2006 and 2021, for instance. They should have won in 2008 over Russia. Ruslana was a good and deserved winner, though it wouldn’t be unfair if they lost to Serbia and Montenegro. However, Jamala or Kalush shouldn’t have even been in TOP 10, let alone win. They are the reason why people are losing hope and interest in Eurovision. But hey, Jon Ola and… Read more »

Some people just want to play by their own rules in the event where organisational rules apply. Cannot really feel sorry for her while she wishes to be treated above everyone else.

you don’t know when she was refused. maybe that’s why she released it because with such a closed selection procedure we really don’t know anything

Rules are rules, no one should be let to bypass them beause of who they are. She just has to try again some other year.

So Luka did want to submit something for eurosong, but she didn’t want To to follow the rules of not releasing a song before the national final actually happened? Or was it after she wasn’t selected? I don’t know.

Felt sorry for her when Hooverphonic dropped her in 2021, but now I think maybe she is trouble.

If they say don’t release it before, then you don’t release it before. Why should she be special and enter with an already released track if no one else can?
