Spain is usually one of the Junior Eurovision power players. Despite a little drop on the scoreboard last year, the country is bouncing back and ready to hit the podium once again with 11-year-old Carlos Higes. He’s representing the nation with the song “Señorita”.

Spain in Junior Eurovision 2022: Carlos Higes with “Señorita”
For the first time since their return in 2019, Spanish broadcaster RTVE held an open casting call to find their representative for Junior Eurovision 2022. Carlos emerged as the chosen candidate from 95 children. He auditioned with performances of “Tacones Rojos” by Sebastián Yatra and “Eco” by Xeinn, a finalist in this year’s Benidorm Fest.
Hailing from Valencia, Carlos Higes is no stranger to singing competitions. He’s previously featured on Idol Kids in 2020 and La Voz Kids earlier in 2022.
He’s already a passionate Eurovision fan. His love for the contest started when he saw Jamala win the 2016 edition. Carlos even performed part of “Colours Of Your Dream” — Armenia’s entry for Junior Eurovision 2019 — during his audition for La Voz Kids 2022.
His biggest music inspirations are Justin Bieber and Sebastián Yatra.
What do the “Señorita” lyrics mean?
The lyrics of “Señorita” paint a picture of a serene summer season where fun and happiness run rampant. Carlos invites a young lady to dance along with him and wishes that this feeling will never end.
Notably, this is also the first time ever that the Spanish song for Junior Eurovision features English lyrics.
The dance number is heavily reminiscent of the evergreen Latin American sounds that are topping the charts in this day and age — in some ways a parallel to Spain’s Eurovision representative of this year, Chanel. With plenty of dancing and a hook that crosses borders, Spain is not holding back when it comes to bringing the personality and the fun.

I dont like this song and i dont like Jesc in general, but reading some comments about the lyrics of this song i can just Sing Cole Porter’s: “the world has fine mad today”… A boy singing whatever to a girl is “something bad”? Sexist? Really. I think ur sensitiviy might be made of glass and stupidity.
Spain’s entry is fantastic, and is definitely a potential winner!
Does this song put girls in a box once again like Barbie dolls, as the only thing girls do is smile, dance and please boys who call girls “young ladies”?
Cheesy song written by adults.
This is a good pop song. The singer and the song have overtones of a young Justin Bieber
with the edge of a latin despacito. When did a catchy pop song become a crime. Top 4 for me.
Why do people feel the need to actively not enjoy ‘generic’ songs. Generic or not, doesn’t make a difference to me it’s still a banger.
Typical summer song, not bad for Junior Eurovision. BUT i was waiting something like Palante… This sounds very generic.
This one I can understand the lyric argument of.
Either way, I don’t really see the appeal of this.
Would a gay equivalent of this be allowed at the junior contest? Probably not, but because it’s hetero it’s okay. Sad.
We’ve never even had one at the adult contest, never mind the junior.
Like what?
I don’t think that’s what it was. Just one gay man and one other man who doesn’t care if people think he’s gay.
Ireland 2018 – “Together” , last time they were un the grand final.
That was staging, not the song itself. You could be right, even if it was coming from a good place.
I agree. Adults deciding an eleven year old likes girls. Then giving him the example of hounding a girl into dancing with him, and telling her to smile. Keep asking until she says yes. Disturbing.
Also stuff like this that builds the closet too many people need to climb out of.
I feel sorry for Carlos that he’s singing something like this
R u serious? Hello man Wake Up, most of the people out there are not gay. What exactly do u mean by “adults deciding an 11 year old likes Girls?. I think that is the effect of too much Twitter. Try quitting for a couple of years
U r crazy.
I expressed concerns about this song but they were deleted. Sad. I know it’s a junior contest, but the songwriters are adults and my comments are aimed at them. Not Carlos.
I am rooting for this kid! Vamos España!
Such a charismatic kid! And the song is a bop. Currently in my top 3.
What a great interview !! Carlos is a very nice boy and I love his song ” Señorita ” a lot. I wish him all best of luck in Yerevan and i will vote for him.
I am not sure about this song, it’s not bad but it’s not good either – probably somewhere between 8-12 place in the end. Spain should go back to their Palante roots:)
I hope his live vocal is good because it sounds quite processed in the studio cut. Other than that, it’s a good song with a good vibe. Hope they do well, particularly after last year didn’t do so hot in the results unfortunately.
A little spanish Alvaro Estrella 😉
I mean.. it’s a little laughable to compare Spanish and Latin sounds (with Spanish guitar and Castanets) to a Swedish singer with Chilean origins, as if this sound originated with him. Saying this cause it’s not the first comment, and as a Spaniard it’s cracking me up.
The two UK songwriters who have sent 47 entries to at least ten different countries give it that authentic Spanish flair.
Yep, there´s that. Nevertheless, it´s spanish sound and instruments. So to compare it with an act from Sweden, when it´s the type of music you hear in Spain 24/7; it´s in some way out of place.
I think there have been a few Latin American singers who represents Spain in eurovision, Chanel being the most recent as she was born in Cuba. I’d have to do some research
Well, that wasn’t clear to me. I thought you were referring to singers
Why?
I mean Carlos song reminds me Alvaro Estrella Melfest songs is it that bad?
There’s nothing misplaced here except your susceptibility for nothing.
