At Eurovision 2022, Serbia had no fear of showcasing their contemporary side. The Balkan country will try to keep the success going at Junior Eurovision with Katarina Savić and her dreamy jazz ballad “Svet Bez Granica”.

Serbia in Junior Eurovision 2022: Katarina Savić with “Svet Bez Granica”

As in previous participations, Serbia’s state broadcaster RTS held an open call to determine who should sing for the nation. At the end of September, four singers survived the cut and were invited to a live audition. As you can guess, Katarina impressed the studio jury most and won the coveted ticket for Yerevan.

Many will know Katarina as a singer, but in her free time she isn’t just belting out high notes. The Belgrade-born young performer also plays trombone and takes ballet lessons. She’s already confirmed that her trombone will join her on the Yerevan stage.

Watching the official video for “Svet Bez Granica”, we can see all her three hobbies combined in one. In between singing, Katarina plays the trombone on the escalator of a shopping mall and dances during the instrumental break.

What do the “Svet Bez Granica” lyrics mean?

“Svet Bez Granica” translates to “World Without Boundaries”. Specifically, Katarina sings about the world of love.

Katarina has caught feelings for a certain boy. But sadly her mother disapproves, thinking it’s just a teen illusion. However, Katarina is being rebellious and can’t go against her heart. She insists that “I love mum and I love dad, and above everything I love my little brother”, yet her heart is fluttering for this boy and “when I see him my world turns to magic”.

During the video, Katarina pretends to be a mannequin in an empty shop. Her crush walks past, together with his crew. While his friends pay little attention to Katarina, their eyes meet and the boy struggles to believe she’s just a doll. This boy – who will join Katarina in Armenia – returns later just as Katarina comes alive and winks. It’s fairy tale sweet, y’all!

“Svet Bez Granica” lyrics – Katarina Savić (Serbia JESC 2022)

Written and composed by: Ivana Dragičević

Serbian transliteration

On tako lep je
Da se ka njemu
Suncokreti od Sunca
Okreću

Slavuji bruje
Kada on tu je
Više raduju mu se
Nego proleću

O zašto ne bih
Majčice ja
O zašto ne bih
U njega se zaljubila

I zašto kažeš
Da sve je to iluzija
Kad ja sam svojim očima
Sama videla

Ja volim mamu
Volim i tatu
I ponajviše od svih
Svog malog batu

Al’ srce bije
Što da se krije
Kad’ ga vidim moj je svet
Od čarolije

O zašto ne bih
Majčice ja
O zašto ne bih
U njega se zaljubila

I zašto kažeš
Da mala sam devojčica
Kada ljubavi je svet
Bez granica

I zašto ne bih
Majčice ja
I zašto ne bih
U njega se zaljubila

I zašto kažeš
Da sve je to iluzija
Kad ja sam svojim očima
Sama videla
Da u ljubavi je svet
Bez granica

English translation

He’s so pretty
To follow him
Even sunflowers
Turn away from the Sun

Nightingales sing
To greet him
They rejoice for him more
Than the spring

Oh, why would I not
Mommy dear
Oh, why would I not
Fall in love with him

And why do you say
That it’s all an illusion
When I saw with my own eyes
With my own eyes

I love mom
And I love dad
And above everything
I love my little brother

Yet my heart beats
Why would I hide
When I see him my world
Turns to magic

Oh, why would I not
Mommy dear
Oh, why would I not
Fall in love with him

And why do you say
That I’m just a little girl
When the world of love
Knows no boundaries

And why would I not
Mommy dear
And why would I not
Fall in love with him

And why do you say
That it’s all an illusion
When I saw with my own eyes
With my own eyes
When the world of love
Knows no boundaries

This is the one to watch. Like children version of Nocturne. I like it a lot. Good luck Serbia.

I know children like playing pretend, but please, let the girl play her trombone live.

Wow, no one does ballads in JESC like Serbia.
This song is just sooo pretty and her voice is unique. And the trombone is an unusual addition, but it actually works well with the song. I’ve had it on repeat since it was released. Just hope that it won’t get forgotten on JESC night like last year (I’m still bitter)

This is one of my favorites! I enjoy the individual composition as well as Katarina’s vocal which is very fluid throughout the song; neither too soft nor too shouty. Still, I’m afraid this will probably not do well because it doesn’t stand out much and the fandom kind of neglects this entry, but I do hope that this will not be left in the gutter like Oci Deteta did last year. Serbia has my vote this year, and I hope they’ll go far 🙂

I don’t have one, apart from to say I’m still wondering why we never get any gay versions of these love songs. Children are only allowed to like who adults decide for them, it seems.

Because it’s still a majority norm for relationships throughout Europe to be heterosexual? Just because something is in (J)ESC doesn’t mean it HAS to be gay to meet certain criteria. Just let her do her thing dude.

She’s 13, we don’t know what her thing is, and we can’t tell from this song because she didn’t write the lyrics. Like Spain deciding an eleven year old likes girls.

A very chill song performed by a very talented girl, a real artist. It will stand out compared to all these very commercial songs competing and in this kind of contest you have to stand out. Of course it won’t have an energetic choregraphy with a dancebreak and it’s a good thing because this jesc year is the year of choregraphies and dancebreaks, and the jury and the general public will get an overdose of that during the show, so I think Serbia will stand out in a good way, bring a very good staging and you will do very… Read more »
