Poll: Who should qualify from Eesti Laul 2023 semi-final one?

Show details

Eesti Laul 2023 begins with two semi-finals on 12 and 14 January, held at Viimsi Artium. Voting will be done over two rounds. The first set of qualifiers will be determined by a 50:50 split of jury and public voting. An additional couple of qualifiers will then be chosen by a second round of purely public voting.

The 12 acts that advance will then compete at the grand final on 11 February in Tondiraba Ice Hall. Again, two rounds of voting will be used. Three superfinalists will initially be selected by 50% jury and 50% televoting. In this superfinal, Estonia’s Eurovision 2023 representative will be chosen through 100% public vote.

Each of the shows will be hosted by Tõnis Niinemets and Grete Kuld.

Who are you hoping to see qualify from semi-final one of Eesti Laul 2023? Do you think any of these acts could go on to win the whole thing? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Eesti Laul is slamming this year, but for me Tokimeki is the stand out. Blending Jpop, Estonian production, with a sound that would fit into the River city Girls soundtrack?! Yes please!

I would like to congratulate Estonia on a strong Semi Final 1. Upon re-listening to all of these songs over this (boring) weekend, I think eight out of these 10 acts are easily good enough to make the final. Good luck to all of the artists, and don’t worry if you don’t qualify; this is a strong Semi.

Eesti Laul is how you do a national selection. You would like to listen to the songs on repeat.

My qualifiers are Janek, Ollie, Bedwetters, Neon Letters, Andreas, and Anett x Fredi.

Can’t get Pretty Girl out of my head. That hook is insane.

If I had my way, these are six songs that should qualify from semi final 1 (in running order)

  1. Janek – “House of Glass”
  2. Kaw – “Valik”
  3. Neon Letters & Maiko – “Tokimeki”
  4. Ollie – “Venom”
  5. Andreas – “Why Do You Love Me”
  6. Bedwetters – “Monsters”

Now, I hope Ollie and Bedwetters don’t cancel each other.

I like Unicorn Vibes, but got tired after listening 2 times. House of Glass and Valik are great, though, especially House of Glass

after reading the comments, I only reserved some time to listen to Venom.
The hype is deserved.

It is a good song indeed, but I think Monsters is better, specially because of its instrumental (it seems more elaborated and original). Hopefully both songs will be in the final.

I’m bracing for something to which I have a visceral negative reaction knocking out something I like. My dislike of Ollie and Bedwetters is probably generational– they remind me of the kind of music that knocked my beloved 90s alt-rock off the charts for good. Really, give me any era of rock music but that one! The EL 2023 song I’ve listened to most is “Tokimeki,” but it just does not sound like a festival-stage song. It sounds like a zone-out-with-headphones song. I love it but think it’s a bad fit. “Pretty Girl” is also up there in my most-played… Read more »

Really pleased to see two rock entries towards the top of the poll. They are both accomplished in their own way. My personal favourite of the two is Bedwetters, I am more drawn to the emo sub-genre and it feels a little heavier. Ollie’s effort is more mainstream pop-rock so is likely to attract a bigger audience, but I’m pleased to see both of them up there, Estonia did a good job this year.

Bedwetters also have a better image with an INTRUIGING music video. If they come to the stage dressed as the monsters from their music video, they will be appreciated and COULD win. Ollie’s song is actually very generic.

Regarding Ollie and Venom, his song sounds really powerful and catchy, but everything about performer and lyrics feels so amateurish, like, I can’t take him seriously.

My personal favourite in Eesti Laul this year is Ollie-Venom, I think it’s great. Also like Jannek’s song, Andreas, Alika and Carlos.

The EL semis are pretty balanced – Ollie and Janek should win the first one, Sissi and Alika should win the second. If any of the four gets to represent Estonia, they are likely again in my personal top 10. By an inch, I’d go with Ollie now, but any of the four would be great!

Fingers crossed for Ollie. If he wins he will be a worthy successor to Stefan and might be just as high in my top as he was last year!

I hope Ollie wins it all and goes to Liverpool!
We need a song like that in Eurovision
Strong semi and I pretty much agree with the poll, with Janek and Andreas being very competitive acts. Kaw is my second favorite after Ollie, Bedwetters could be interestig on stage

Firsttttt !

For me, the 6 qualified are :

. Bedwetters
. Ollie
. Anett x Fredi
. Andreas Poom
. Janek
. Ellip (televote) or Kaw

But the lives will of course be decisive… and that scares me especially that of Ollie!

I think Anett x Fredi will be saved by the jury.

If ollie and kaw miss their live, it’s Ellip and potentially Mia who will be in the final.

It hurries me!!!

Ollie is my favorite of this selection so I’m not going to say the opposite, simply, a song like this live is very complicated and I’m afraid it gives a very average rendering… we’ll see !
