Yesterday the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet reported that DMGP 2023 contestant Reiley and his song “Breaking My Heart” was in danger of being disqualified from this year’s competition, because the song had been performed at a concert in Seoul, South Korea back in October 2022.
At the Slow Life Festival the Faroese-Danish TikTok sensation performed the song with a different title and lyrics, and while the performance was after the cut-off point of 1 September 2022 in the EBU rules about Eurovision entries, it could be a breach of the rules DR set for participation in Dansk Melodi Grand Prix.
After reviewing the matter DR made this statement to Wiwibloggs:
The artist complies with the EBU’s guidelines for possible participation in Eurovision. As is clear from DR’s own guidelines, cases like this are a matter of assessment. Based on the given circumstances surrounding the single playing of the track at a concert in South Korea in October, DR does not consider that the artist has gained a competitive advantage in relation to a Danish audience and participation in DMGP.

This means we will still see all eight announced entries in DMGP on 11 February, but what do you think? Is this the right decision from DR? Let us know in the comments below.
I was completely unaware that the DMGP was the subject of any controversy; after all, it hasn’t even been a week since the entries were made public.
The fact that “Beautiful Bullsh*t” is not now embroiled in a “may be disqualified” issue is even more surprising to me.
Absolutely nothing against the song; I’m simply wondering about how Denmark could alter it for the Eurovision competition in the event that it wins the selection show.
DGMP needs more hype and this guy with his 10 millions tik tok followers can help a lot for that, moreover he is one of the biggest potential in this selection, DR is clever 😉 and at least they are more transparent and fairer than another broadcaster I won’t name.
I dont think we have potential with him. I eill vote for Eyjaa. Our best chance if the staging is good!

Cheater
Absolutely correct decision. Didn’t violate EBU guidelines for participation and didn’t provide him a competitive advantage in the national selection voting.
A little common sense is always a good thing (Malta lol).
Reiley’s song is a rip off anyway..sounds too much like “I’m so tired” by Lauv & Troye Sivan
But if there is worldwide voting at Eurovision this year…………………
I’ve never heard the song before the DMGP entries were out.
The worldwide voting can only give a maximum of extra 12 points, so that will not boost Riley that much. He could, however, attract many new viewers of Eurovision from Asian countries.
My favorite
Because it’s the only good song in Denmark this year, I don’t care if it’s okay or not. I want to see as much good songs this year at the ESC as possible, so please vote for this guy!
I will vote for Eyjaa if they can do it well live
He’s probably the only DMGP act that could qualify in Liverpool, DR don’t wanna lose him.
If the song had different lyrics, then it’s a different song. I’m glad he’s still in.
Let me translate for you. No one in Denmark with the possibility of voting has ever heard of this concert or saw it.
Likely because the concert wasn’t recorded. The only reason we knew it happened is because reily himself talked about it on his Instagram. People really need to learn when to keep things close to the chest.
When we heard about it yesterday, my immediate reaction was that this wasn’t anything at all. But you don’t know until DR made their decision.
Didn’t even know there was any controversy in DMGP, it hasn’t even been a week since the entries were revealed
I’m more surprised “Beautiful Bullsh*t” isn’t in the middle of a “could be disqualified” scandal
Nothing against the song at all, just curious how Denmark would revamp it for Eurovision if it wins the selection
If they go to ESC, they will change the title, according to her interview with us 🙂
Ah, I see, thank you
That is reasonable, but she should’ve just changed it right away before she even submitted the entry, surely she knows the rules
Could’ve just released the original explicit version along with a PG one haha
I wonder what the clean version of the title will be called, beautiful BS?
Yep 🙂
DMGP has been so lacklustre in recent years so it’d be surprising if they removed one of two acts that actually aren’t terrible, unless Denmark intentionally chooses poor entries to perform at ESC, but… eh, Denmark’s gonna have trouble qualifying regardless of what they pick
Its fine that you have that opinion, but this isn’t the place to talk about it, since that isn’t the topic at hand…
Are we that strict?
Soooo happy, he is my favorite in the danish selection 🙂
He looks 12 lmao
and you behave like 7
Wait someone looking young is not a compliment anymore? What is wrong with the world nowadays.
However, even PRESSING news that SHOULD be reported, is that Malta are gonna auto-NQ.
Why, do you ask?
Aidan has been disqualified for an ‘unknown’ reason! Malta now has NO hope!
First in 2022 by changing the vote so that Aidan to lose, then they change Muscat’s song without asking Malta AT ALL…and now, this?! Is this a joke?!
But I can’t write about both countries in the same article 🙂
They are probably only picking the artist this year as well, and then will give that artist a different song.
He was disqualified for breaking the “no advertising” rule apparently. So stupid. They either send MIKHAIL now or they’re doomed.
It will more likely be Brooke. But otherwise, I don’t care who Malta sends now.
Oh I forgot about her. Says a lot about this preselection… Malta should just go internal. This NF is a joke and mockery of artists.
Oh please, even if he were selected he’d just be another fandom flop
the song was bad to begin with, it has “flop” written all over it, so by disqualifying him they did him a favor for avoiding the embarrassment.
Can’t take you seriously with that grammar.
