Semi-final 3 of MGP 2023 takes place on 28 January, starting at 19:50 CET.
Following a shake-up of the national selection, we no longer have duels or automatic qualifiers. Instead, each semi-final is a free-for-all battle between seven competing acts.
For the semi-finals of Melodi Grand Prix 2023, the outcome will just be down to the public. Viewers can choose three acts to qualify for the grand final on 4 February.
Who did you vote for? Which act are you most excited to see perform live on Saturday? Let us know in the comments below.
Tiril Beisland – “Break It” its such a delicate slow burn building song. For some reason i cant stop listen to it. I just want more of it. Its my winner from this heat. Eline, Atle are good too. Maria is my 4th, but im curious to see all performances live with stagings. I hope they all deliver.
Maria Celin to Liverpool please !
if tiril has a hundred fans, im one of them
if tiril has ten fans, i’m one of them
if tiril has one fan, thats me
if tiril has zero fans then im dead
if tiril doesnt qualify im gonna turn emo
Are the four horsemen of the apocalypse only part of the Greek mythology? If yes, then that means the lyrics of Freya are inaccurate.
I think the 4 horsemen are part of Christian religion. There is no such reference in Greek mythology.
I’m pleased to hear that Maria has a dirty bass-line going on in the verses that I didn’t really notice in the snippet, and this gives it an edge that I really like. I can see this one winning this heat.
The head of delegation said that there were 4 songs competing this year that could win Eurovision. I wonder which 4 they meant. I really have no sense if it’s just Ulrikke’s to lose and we are just pretending there’s a real competition happening. But it seems like the Ulrikke buzz has faded some.
I think Ulrikke is overkilling it in trying to promote her song (which explains why she is fading added to which that her song isn’t a standout compared to some of the other entries ). There are just too many tears, too many gushy hugs and jumping up and down telling everyone she has unfinished business to do! Sorry about being so cynical!
i reallly really like eline but i like my top 3 better
well maria has already won esc
akuvi is most probably qualifying
so fro the third q… PLEASE PLS PLS PLS BE TIRIL OMG PLS
What a pity Ella wasnt allocated in this semifinal
As much as I love Waist, I don’t think this semifinal would’ve benefited her at all
I think it’s the strongest out of the three, too many heavy-hitters
Eline, Maria and Tiril would be my picks.
Eline has the song I think is clearly the best so am going to try and manifest a surprise qualification for her.
Maria, Atle and Tiril all have songs that are definitely worthy of the final so that makes it so something very deserving will miss out.
I see no winner in this semifinal
the majority of the fans of the site are sleeping on Break it cause its not a yas slay queen bop but a freaking masterpiece.
She’s actually third in the poll at the moment
If the poll meant anything for the actual contest then she’d qualify for the grand final
But I do agree, the full song is just extremely beautiful, my 2nd favorite of the semi
I really want her to qualify, I do
I just think Atle and Eline could give her some strong competition
Its beyond beautiful. If Ulrikke performed this they would all go into a meltdown here. If the audience wants to send the best song, this is their choice.
It’s good, but I’m burnt out on broken heart songs. I’ve heard all this a thousand times before.
this
PLS LET HER Q
I wrote some positive stuff abt tiril and i got downvited so il have to agree
gurl they are delusional Tiril is winning this
GURL YES FREAK THESE DELULUS SLAYY
mgp is so strong this year it’s crazy
I was supposed to listen to the songs yesterday, but I got caught up with the controversy of Aiden’s disqualification from Malta’s national final. I’ll listen to them today and give you my opinion on which three should qualify later.
I like Freya, I do, but the Norse Goddess thing is kinda overplayed by now.
Overplayed?!? Why are some genres overplayed after 3-4 songs? But generic pop songs and ballads never are? Seriously MGP have room for at least one Norse tribal song and one joik song every year… It will never be overplayed! Yes to diversity in genres!
It’s not a genre, it’s imagery. The heavily shouldered warrier look, with no leg armor. Of course I have no problem with traditional indigenous music, which to me is a different thing completely to innacurate mythic comic book Americanisms.
I agree. I am all for folk, indigenous music but I can’t really stand it anymore when a commercialized version of it shows up on ESC. I like it either pure or merged with alternative elements and experimentation. One of the reasons Queen of the Kings is not among my favourites either.
What a strong SF !! Wow
I have 5 qualifiers…
Skrillex ans Akuvi are out for me.
I love “not meant to be” it’s m’y MGP winner before the live (Elsie is second and i was a bit underwhelmed by the stage and live).
I Guess Maria is going through but I am not amazed as many of you here ^^ the chorus is not that stellar.. but it’s defenitly a good song though !
I really like masterpiece, someday and break it. Lots of suspens (:
Well
maria is aleeady at esc and akuvi is most prob qualifying
soo
PLEASE BE TIRI PLEASE BE TIRIL BLPLEASE BE TIRIL PLEASE BE TIRIL OH MY GOOD
For me, the qualifiers are Freya and Not Meant to Be, with the third spot being between Triumph, Masterpiece, and Break It. Whoever among these three has the best performance.
Quite a strong SF. I think Norway has the best chance with Freya (overall), but as to me, I wouldn’t mind Stig van Eijk either, sounds quite nice without being overly complicated.
They’re all in English! Eww!!
frwya has some english lyrics
norwegian*
This has to be one of the best semi finals ever. Break it is amazing, Masterpiece has so beautiful lyrics and production, freya and love again are also nice. I don’t like the approach of the broadcaster and the use of autotune but I can’t deny that these songs are amazing.
The “bum bum bada bum, ba da bam bam bam” is not as good as the “dam dam dapa dam, dapa dapa dam” of Cyprus 1997.
Funnily enough, snippets I was quite impressed by have been slightly underwhelming with the full song releases and Ive felt the opposite with snippets I was somewhat underwhelmed by (maybe thats to be expected). In relation to this semi, here are my thoughts: Akuvi: This was one of the snippets that stood out to me in the reveal. The chorus is really impactful, as much as I liked her 2020 mgp entry, I think I might prefer triumph. The verses aren’t as strong as I’d like them to be but I have big expectations for its presentation and think it… Read more »
Maria is my personal favorite this year so I definitely want her in the final
I think Akuvi will also qualify, and the third spot is between Atle, Tiril and Eline
Good luck to all contestants
I find this semi so hard to predict. I would love to see Akuvi make it through, but ngl this sound doesnt do that well in the Norwegian selections. Akuvi has also tried before and havent really got too much love from the crowd, sadly. Personally I think Tiril with Break It is a great track and I would love to see it through. If she has a good show I definitly think this could do really well both in MGP and Eurovison. Her songwriters Emma Steinbakken and Emelie Hollow is two of the most succesfull Women in music right… Read more »
zamn finally someone who loves tiril
This is a tough one. Freya is a definite yes, and I also voted for Akuvi and Tiril who have amazing songs. However, I quite enjoyed the other songs as well.
exact same for me
I think that once again this semi is hard to predict. Freya is the only sure qualifier here and imo Break it, Masterpiece and Not Meant to Be will battle for the remaining two qualifying spots.
As of now I prefer the three ballads to Freya but I’ll wait for the live performances to fully judge these songs.
Oh and Triumph will also fight for one of the qualifying spots (even if it’s not my cup of tea at all).
Freya has it all
Reggae is not my kind of music at all – heard Stig van Eijk’s Someday yesterday though – I actually like it! Freya’s song is really clever – so much more interesting than the Ulrikke and the Bay-girl song that are so hyped up by NRK. In fact I think Freya has Top 10 potential in Liverpool!
please she has already wom esc
