Agoney

Quiero Arder” is Agoney’s entry for Benidorm Fest 2023. No one wants to burn in hell. But Agoney plays with the metaphor, delivering some of the most sexual lyrics of the year.

Benidorm Fest 2023: Agoney “Quiero Arder”

A lot has happened since Agoney left Operación Triunfo in early 2018, and missed his first chance of going to Eurovision. He now says that was lucky. Five years later, after releasing several singles and an album, he’s back with a song that “truly represents him”.

During this time, Agoney has remained in the public eye. While he has not topped any musical chart, he has been a staple on television: he won Your Face Sounds Familiar and recently took part in RTVE’s Dúos Increíbles, partnering with music legend Ana Belén.

What do the “Quiero Arder” lyrics mean?

“Quiero Arder” (I Want to Burn) is a story of liberation, self-awareness and sexual awakening, and one wrought with religious concepts. He literally says he wants to burn in Hell. “I’m sorry if by provoking you I make you pray again”.

Agoney frees himself from the strains of his lover and takes control of his own desires: “Tied to my game, now I am what I want, I’m still here a prisoner, but I don’t pray to you anymore”.

“Quiero Arder” lyrics – Agoney (Benidorm Fest 2023)

Written and composed by: Agoney, Black Panda

Spanish text

Atado a tu juego
Yo disparo primero
Alimento mi ego
Sin error, con acierto
Si me miras y no quieres ver lo que tu me obligaste a crear
Siento si yo al provocar
Te hago volver a rezar

Atado a tu juego

Arde

Atado a mi juego
Ahora soy lo que quiero
Sigo aquí prisionero
Pero ya no te ruego
Atrapado en la noche
te veo la cara en la oscuridad
Juntos en este lugar
Toca volver posar

Y yo solo quiero arder
Y yo solo quiero

Arde

English translation

Tied to your game
I shoot first
I feed my ego
No mistake, all is right
If you look at me and you don’t want to see what you made me create
I’m sorry if by provoking
I make you pray again

Tied to your game
Heaven is far awya
A sincere caprice
It’s forbidden, I want it
I mourn the lack of light, but I don’t oblige myself to shine anymore
Deserted secrets of what I am
Silence in the night that makes me scream

Now that it’s dawning again
Light helps me see
That you haven’t let me be yet
Now that it’s dawning again
Light helps me see
That I want to burn in Hell

Burn

Tied to my game
Now I am what I want
I’m still here, a prisoner
But I don’t pray to you anymore
Trapped in the night
I see your face in the darkness
We’re together in this place
It’s time to pose again

Now that it’s dawning again
Light helps me see
That you haven’t let me be yet
Now that it’s dawning again
Light helps me see
That I want to burn in Hell

Tied to the game I always shoot first
Light helps me see that I’m still in Hell
And I only want to burn
I only want to

Burn

Love it!! Live performance blew my mind, there are a lot of different parts in the song, but it’s still cohesive. It grabs your attention in the first verse, and then relaxes you in pre-chorus. Then throws you back in the rhythm. Angelic voice, sick beat, amazing energy. Obsessed <3

He’s cute, but the style of his song reminds me too much of the style of “I.M” from last year, but “I.M” is better, this song sounds messed up, it’s not a suitable song for the competition, I also didn’t like the part where he shouts.
I would love to see him come back in the future with a better song.

Haven’t heard it yet, but “I.M. is better” sounds as such a diss

I agree to some extent , look we all can see and hear Agoney is a really good performer on stage, he can sing, he can dance, he slays on stage, but the song has no melody, it really does not, and doesn’t have an oomph factor like Slomo, It is his performance which is driving force of the song. He needs the whole package to do well. Reminds me of a better choreographed version of Israel’s ‘I Am’. If they choose this for Spain , so be it, we can live with it , but expect the right hand… Read more »

Nothing personal but please don’t let this very annoying and borderline unlistenable entry win, there are much better options available.

I’m not sure I get it. What he’s saying is that conservative bible thumpers have no power over him? Their reign of terror is over?

I’m glad he has freed himself from their grip. Sadly, not everyone can do this.

Being gay is not a sin, I don’t care what the Pope said yesterday.
