Lithuania kicked off its popular Eurovision selection Pabandom iš Naujo 2023 last week with the show’s first heat. Tens acts qualified from that show, including Gabrielus Vagelis and Ruta Mur. This week it was the turn of 15 new acts and their songs, with ten that made it through to the semi-finals.
Lithuanian star Beatrich came on top of tonight’s second heat, finishing above all the others with the televoting and jury. Meanwhile, Eurovision 2015 alumna Monika Linkyte finished as the show’s runner-up.
Like usual at Pabandom iš Naujo, the acts were judged by a panel of musical experts and journalists. They give a total of 50% of the votes. The other half was determined by the public through SMS votes.
Pabandom iš Naujo 2023 is partially pre-recorded. This means that the show and jury feedback have been pre-decided. The public vote is held during the broadcast with an LRT commentator revealing the eventual result at the end of each broadcast.
You could watch the broadcast from 20:00 CET. It was live on LRT’s website, as well as on LRT1 or LRT Lituanica.

What did you make of heat two? Can any of these acts go on to win the whole thing? Let us know in the comments down below!
Semi-Final 1 running order of #PIN
The semifinal allocations for pin or out and frankly, I am disappointed with them because they didn’t really shuffle the songs around much, just switched out two songs per heat. Semifinal one is basically heat one except with Donata and Petunija. Semifinal two is basically he too, but with Lukne and Paulina. If they weren’t going to take the effort to do a true shuffle, they should’ve just kept the semi finalists as they were in the same place as the heats.
Gabrielius Vagelis have to win IMO, he is the only one who will bring a good result, a great song and he himself is stunning!
After we know all the performances, my perfect final and the outcome would be something like:
I’m glad Beatrich didn’t dissapoint me, she’s my number one to represent Lithuania at the ESC 2023. Paulina is the next very close choice to me. Overall, I love the energy LRT is putting in making PIN a great music show. As an outcome, I’ve received tons of feedbacks from the Lithuanian compatriots who were praising the quality overall too. Don’t stop!
I also made a list of predicted qualifiers and we seem to differ by one artist. Why do you think NOY Could make the final? he doesn’t come across to me as a strong contender to make it.
Well, it’s not much of a prediction list but rather my favourites in the corresponding order. Depending on which Semi-Final they are allocated, there may be no free spots left for gems. So, a prediction list? Uncertain. As for NOY, he is a pretty fresh face in the music industry from the Lithuanian X-Factor, and he has built up a decent fanbase since then. Basically, I think he has more chances, compared to Gebrasy, to advance to the final. His style is more appealing to the masses; he is fun to look at, and he has moves. Gebrasy, on… Read more »
I don’t know, Noy came across to me as an awkward, amateur singer playing with the big boys above his league. Sorry for the harsh characterization, but that’s how I see it. That’s why he isn’t in my list of finalists, but I hope regardless of his final result, he can take this experience and use it to develop his craft, and become a stronger singer in the future. It would be to see interesting to see how he develops as an artist in the long term but right now he doesn’t do it for me.
Fair. I’m not saying NOY is one of my favourites either, I just picture him a bit higher than Gebrasy.
Not shocking at all. Gebrasy peaked in 2021, he’s now bringing anything new. Him staying in the heats wouldn’t surprise me.
*Not bringing anything new
I have to agree with you, sadly. Where’d You Wanna Go is better than Saw Your Ghost, even if the latter shows an improvement in quality
Lithuania started flopping with the odds
After Petunija’s flop, it was expected. Hopefully she goes back to the drawing board, because this current performance is not cutting it.
That song isn’t cutting it either. I’m surprised that so many love it…
Was she really the reason Lithuania was in the top 10 of the odds? I think we need to really prepare for the possibility that she’s not going to win this selection or worse not make it to the final. We need to be open our minds to other songs. We just saw a fan favorite song failing to make the final for the Norwegian selection last night. RIP freya— you will be missed.
I think that the reason behind Lithuania climbing to the top might be having at least a few decent songs in the national selection. I just noticed that Lithuania re-entered the top ten after Beatrich’s performance became trending in the country. Only Ruta Mur managed to achieve the same, so I guess the battle might be between those two.
I don’t care about the odds.
The odds had Lithuania as non qualifer with Monika and she got like 100 televoting points. (performing 3rd) They know nothing.
Yeah, it was really satisfying to see Lithuania defy the odds and disadvantages last year.
Or barely if you did a top eight. That doesn’t bode well for him in the semi finals , unless he can turn it around. I have him listed as one of my ideal finalists, but he could easily be taken out in the semi finals.
Now that we have our semi finalists, here are the ten artists that I think should make it to the final, in no particular order: Gabrielius Vagelis R?ta Mur Paulina Paukštaityt? Just? Kraujelyt? Monika Linkyt? Agn? Gebrasy Petunija Beatrich Mario Junes I admit my list is a little more tilted towards the heat 2 artists but that’s because I think heat 2 was stronger than heat 1 in my opinion. Of course, I have no idea how the semi finals will be split so six of these artists could be in one semi final and I lose a favorite of… Read more »
This list feels right to me, and it also looks strong once you remove the chaff from the field.
There might be a different artist or two in the final lineup after the semi finals are done but I hope that the majority of this list does make it to the final.
I agree with what you say. When it comes to Lithuania, it seems like a weak national final at the beginning with all of the songs, but once you start cutting out the deadweight week after week, you can actually get a strong lineup for the final. It’s just you have to wade through the muck to get to the gems.
Listening to “Love of My Life” again and argh, she did cut the “we are fragile creatures” section! That’s the best part! I hope she tinkers with it a bit more…
Beatrich just showed with such an energetic, professional and charismatic performance that she’s not only Lithuania’s best chance this year but also she looks like she’s on to having a great and successful career after ESC!
If Beatrich was chosen, how would her song Like a Movie stack with the three songs from Albania, Belgium, and Ukraine?
Who cares how it stacks with these three songs? They may not even be in the same semi. It’s like rolling dice at this point.
Fair enough, but I wasn’t asking how the song would fair in a semifinal with those countries, but just comparing the songs in general in an overall ranking.
Beatrice by a mile. But virtually anything that qualifies next is going to catapult above the first three finalists for me.
So what you’re saying is you’ll place Lithuania first over Belgium, Albania , and Ukraine (and in that order as my personal ranking from bottom to top for those three).
Yeah, I think I’d say that with any of your likely PIN finalists (and my order would be Lithuania-Ukraine-Belgium-Albania)
Very impressed with Beatrich tonight. Not really my kind of music but what a convincing and believable performace. Full of energy and nothing was uncomfortable about it, which I don’t think any other performer managed. A clear winner for Lithuania and will be interesting to see how it fairs at eurovision, I really hope it’s grows on me.
For the rest of voting, I actually sat and ranked them all, and boy was I well put of sinc with actual results. 2 of the biggest surprises…. Again not really my kind of music but I thought the PIXLS did great and stood out from the crowd can’t believe they didn’t even qualify. Petunija was at the bottom of my list with Antikvariniai, very shocked they qualified, I guess Anti had a novelty factor, but Petunija had the most bland song of the night.
Oooh, you’re playing with fire with your opinion about Petunija. I won’t give you grief for it because we’ve all got an unpopular opinion about something.
If last night was the first time I heard Petunija’s song, I would find it bland also.
But I have listened to the extended live version dozens of times and I know what she can do. Hopefully she will let more emotions out on stage during the semi final performance, otherwise she might not advance to the final.
Thank you for the free pass this time hehe! Well from both your comments I will keep an open mind for when she performs in the semi final.
I got to agree with Lithuania. That’s taste. Both Ruta and Beatrich sound so good. Any of them would be interesting for Eurovision. Maybe Ruta has more of an impact potential because the looks and the vocals, but Beatrich performance is so energetic and she’s so charismatic. Wow, hard to choose. There you have Gabrielius and Monika also.
When you filter out the crap, there’s actually a few good options. I do expect Lithuania to be overlooked or dismissed at this stage but once the act is chosen, they might get used to it.
Gebrasy was underrated by the televoters.
If that Petunija song is your fifth place, and that Gebrasy song is your eighth place, then you just put on a really good semifinal.
Sure there’s a lot more going on and Beatrice is good, but I don’t think she’s the right fit for Lithuania. I think Lithuania can do a lot better with Ruta Mur. She has a more unique voice and a song that stands out and gives you more feeling as you progress through the song. I think Ruta, for that reason, could give Lithuania a really good result with a revamp/more highlighted staging later down the line!
I think the opposite, or at least in taste. I would prefer Beatrich because I think she could have a better shot to qualify than Ruta Mur (and I just happen to like her song more). But whether those two remain as front runners or somebody else rises to the top will depend on the semi finals for the next two weeks.
Beatrich gives off fantastic energy. She will be a great choice for Lithuania.
Unfortunately the Lithuanian selection isn’t as good as it was in 2020 / 2022. I’m not really sure who is my favorite but none really impressed me like The Roop and Monika Liu did
It is quite the opposite in my opinion, it is so good that even difficult to choose.
It’s more of a mixed bag for me. There’s a lot of crap, but the stuff that’s good is really good. Maybe not a lot but enough to not write Lithuania off.
You’re welcome to your opinion but Come back in two weeks when there will be ten finalists left. I understand it can be overwhelming with 30 songs and the majority of them aren’t good. But a few good ones can rise to the top. You just have to filter out.
Waouh Beatrich so good and very Avril Lavigne i love it.
I Hope Ruta Mur won’t win …
For me, the best for Lithuania than Ruta are :
. Mario Junes
. Monika Linkyte
. Paulina P.
Lithuanian people, Please, not Ruta Mur ! Its good but not the best !!
Please not Beatriche !
Ruta Mur is a NQ bro
Most of these songs are very generic. I find Ruta’s song has a nice build up that really is impactful with deeper meaning and her voice really stands out in this competition.
Actually I disgaree. Most of the sounds you pointed are typical eurovision NQ. Beatrich is great vocalist but her song is not great. I think actually only Rita can take Lithouania to the final this year.
If Beatrich was zero she would never have collected the vote of the juries and the public so we have to stop telling nonsense huh
Beatrich came confident as a real professional. I really like it and would be happy to see her or Ruta Mur going to Eurovision. Petunija did not do well live…
Moon Bee – Rumor.
Beatrich has good stage presence, but the song is so overwhelming, boring and heard so many times. Sadly, that would be NQ for Lithuania this year… Monika Linkyte or Petunija should be the first choice.
How do you know it will be NQ for Lithuania?
Whether Lithuania will qualify or not will depend on what they’ll choose and how it stacks up against other countries. If they turn out to be weak, then Lithuania will deal with not qualifying this year, but if it’s turn out to be strong, then it’s fine. You can’t always make it every year. Of course, don’t forget that the semi finals are televote only so Lithuania could be fine regardless because they do better with televote than jury but it will all depend on what countries they’re grouped with. If they get Norway, Ireland and the United Kingdom together,… Read more »
And Latvia, a sure 12 televote points in semi final from Latvia (as Ukraine is in the final already).
Also, having Ireland and Latvia in the semi is a benefit, because those two have not been doing so great in terms of qualification. And – if it is the semi final with only 15 countries – Lithuania sails through easily.
The last time Lithuania was in a semi final with just 15 countries, it didn’t qualify but that was because It didn’t have a good song. If Lithuania makes the best choice they can, they might have a chance, but it also depends on what other countries in that semifinal bring to the table. Lithuania could look strong if everyone else is weaker or makes poor choices in their national finals or disappointing internal selections, or it could end up as one of the weaker countries. It’s all a roll of the dice. We’ll have to see where Lithuania ends… Read more »
This was so good.
Of course, the ones in the native language ended so low. Typical Baltic.
Native language is not a guarantee. Those songs were baaaaad.
There was nothing good in native language
Yeah, that’s why Monika Liu’s masterpiece made it to Turin last year
When I saw Monika’s backing singers, I thougt of The Mamas 🙂 Maybe those three are The Daughters? Jokes aside, Monika did great and her song is enjoyable.
That’s what I thought too. They did remind me of the mamas.
My fav of tonight was Mario Junes and I’d love to see him in Eurovision. Beatrich and Ruta have won both the televote and the jury votes in their respectively heat, when jury and public agree like that it’s always a good sign, nothing is done for sure but it gives us already some big hints of who could fight for the final win imo.
If it’s between those two singers, I would pick Beatrich. Despite my initial misgivings when I first her snippet, her performance blew me away with her energy.
Everything is still open but these two songs will be among those fighting for the final victory I think.
it doesn’t mean anything, in 2017 Fusedmarc was not a winner right away (by the way I never understood why they won)
Fair enough. It’s all in the air right now. I think things will either shuffle around once the semis are aired or things remain the same.
Exactly but I think Ruta Mur & Beatrich are not on the same SF !
Mario Junes was so good! I honestly think he’d be getting more traction if he didn’t have to follow Beatrich (who also put on an amazing show!)
Petunija was a disappointment :/ Never have early favorites, huh. I really enjoyed Beatrich though. That performance SLAPS and SLAYS.
Petunija has time to improve – more emotion next time and she might do better.
There is usually why I keep an open mind. Even if I liked something before, the live show, the performance can bring it down if it’s poor. I hope she can make tweaks to get better result in the semifinal, although if you’re finishing fifth now, you’re likely out of contention to win.
Beatrich is definitely Lithuania’s best shot at qualification.
Antikvariniai Kašpirovskio dantys – “S?di ir važiuoji” is my guilty pleasure and that performance was very hilarious.
I admit when I first heard her snippet, it didn’t convince me, but after seeing the whole performance I’m now vibing with it. I definitely wouldn’t mind it going to Eurovision. Somebody called it a bit like a Disney Channel rock pop song and I don’t disagree with that but that could work as something nostalgic.
Do you have any other singers as alternatives in case Beatrich doesn’t win? That might not be likely since she won both the jury in Televote for this heat, but I always try to have multiple options so that I don’t get disappointed If my first choice doesn’t win. I want to see less tantrums like the one we saw with the Belgian national final.
Others songs which I like and qualified for the next round are: – New Start by Agn? (the jury doesn’t like the song) – Saw Your Ghost by Gebrasy (Televote doesn’t like it and it’s not as good as Gebrasy’s previous Pabandom Is Naujo attempts) I acknowledge the quality of certain other entries (such as Mario James and Petunija for example (when we’re talking about the studio version)), but those aren’t for me. Despite that I like Beatrich’s song the most, I think R?ta Mur will win PIN. And, I’m sorry if I am being negative, but I think R?ta… Read more »
Okay so this heat was definitely stronger than the other one. My first place today would go to Mario Junes. He had a great performance and great vocals and a nice solid song, that is quite contemporary.
Other songs I really enjoyed were:
Beatrich totally deserved it.
Great attitude and presence and it felt like a genuine performance that was not trying too hard to impress you. She carried and sold it.
Beatrich won the televote and the heat. Monika 2nd, Mario 3rd, Petunija only 5th (won the jury but got a bad result with the televote)
Petunija didn’t win the jury. Beatrich did.
You’re right. I don’t know where I was with my mind.
So, Beatrich won both votes (as Ruta Mur last week).
But Petunijas live was a bit disappointing
I agree, the Eurovision version lacks in general. The extended version is so much better, wish it was the one she published on Spotify.
I adored Beatrich’s energy and she instantly became someone I want to see soon in Eurovision, but I don’t think “Like a Movie” is the song for it to happen. Too Disney Channel to my taste. Will Lithuanian viewers warm up to Petunija during the competition? They did for The Roop in the past. Monika Linkyte can be in a good position here, I think she can, will and should score well with both groups of voters. How would Ruta Mur rank if she was in this heat, which was way stronger? There are a lot of questions in the… Read more »
At this point I think it’ll be Ruta vs Beatrich. Could very close and waiting if someone from the last group can join their party bit winning both jury and televote was a very strong sign
Are the semis defined by a draw? Otherwise, I bet LTR will keep them separated to keep the mystery…
Agreed. Ruta has the better song and her voice is more iconic. However, Beatrich should NOT rule out participating in the future!
The exact standings don’t really matter. The amount of votes is really low until the final and juries usually try to give the big names a lot of points to guarantee their spot in the next stage.
Indeed the heats don’t say much about the televote, because so many people vote on them. Also, I remember PiN’s jury changing their mind about some entries.
I didn’t watch. Have Gebrasy and Donata qualified?
They did. 8th and 9th. Matt Len, Agne and Moon Be were the others ahead of them. And the joke entry was 10th.
Thanks. 🙂 Got scared for a moment, as these are my top 2 (out of released 26 before the show, so I have to check out Monika Linkyte and Beatrich). Lower placement probably means they aren’t winning, though. Too bad. I feel like Gebrasy should take a year or two of pause. It seems like the Lithuanian public isn’t that keen on him going to Eurovision so far. 🙁
Unfortunately, I must agree about Gebrasy. He was great a couple of years ago, but he’s failing to show a different side of him and getting too predictable. He should also work hard on his stage presence if Eurovision is his big goal, which seems it is.
I agree. He has his style. Works for me, but not so much for Lithuanians, it seems. Sadly, his best song was kinda wasted on the glorified internal choice of 2021 (I am honestly still salty of the tremendous pressure people were getting when suggesting anyone but The Roop in a supposed selection). His subsequent two songs are still very, very good for me, but he needs something in a different direction now.
Saw his performance. Yeah, the vocals are on-point, and the song is great, but he seems to be in his own world. Not attempts at focusing on camera cues or connecting with the audiences. I hope that he works on that, because he has the huge potential for Eurovison.
Or they’re telling him that he’s not competing with the right song. Even in 2021 when he and the roop had the only two good songs that year, I felt like he was only winning his heat and semi final as a placeholder for the roop’s in the final.
Nobody could have won over The Roop in 2021. Holding a selection didn’t have the same purpose it usually has. I actually preferred Gebrasy’s song (even if I love Discoteque too), and was treated like I was speaking heresy on Wiwibloggs. Everyone wanted to see The Roop at ESC, and so it was.
Beatrich also really awesome.
Gebrasy and Beatrich for me!
And Mario June
Damn, Mario Junes is great
That song is so cool
Hell yeah, my new favorite from Lithuania’s national selection
He was really good. Loved his voice and presence. I wish his song was better. He really sold that performance and was’t that easy.
Still getting used to the trims to “Love of My Life” from the live version I’ve listened to a thousand times already
Did the “we are fragile creatures” section get cut? That was the goosebumps moment for me on the live version
I like Beatrich song. But please leave leather harnesses for the gays.
I think she is the gays
What if she is gay though?
I loved Monika’s song so much, but Petunija…. Left me in chills, the song, the vocals, the staging, absolutely fantastic!
I like Petunija’s video clip. But live at PIN she was underwhelming.
Is Petunija’s song why Lithuania is #7 in the odds?
It’s dropped down to number 9 now. Still not bad, but do we have anything here that can warrant remaining in the betting odds top 10? We’ll see.
Probably. That’s why it dropped now. It was underwhelming.
Everyone else would have to be extremely weak for Lithuania to succeed as a contender. There are a couple of people doubting Lithuania’s chances to qualify but Lithuania usually does better with the televote and the semi finals only have televote this year so the country could have a chance.
Petunijas song give me Duncan Laurence vibes…. Strong contender to get the trophy in Liverpool!
Gebrasy was amazing
The staging for “Rumor” is really goofy but I like the song
It’s not usually my kind of thing, but I really enjoyed “New Start”
Monika Linkyte, wow! So good
well, didn’t expect Monika’s song to be that good. and her vocals were flawless
This is my first time hearing Midnight Train and I have to say it’s very good!
I actually didn’t really like that song
Not being funny but Donata’s song is 95% chorus!! Repetitive much
Heat 2 is looking much stronger than heat 1 so far!
I like how quickly everything moves in PIN. As someone who has no attention span, I appreciate this haha
As someone also trying to watch MGP, it’s too fast 🙂
Linkyte or Petunija for the Win
