He’s the TikTok superstar with the voice of an angel. And now, Theoz is back at Melodifestivalen for another shot at the Swedish Eurovision ticket. He’ll perform “Mer av dig” at Mello 2023 as he bids to sing for Sweden in Liverpool.

We caught up with the Swedish rising star ahead of his performance at Melodifestivalen heat two in Linköping with the song “Mer av dig”. In a wiwibloggs exclusive interview, Theoz told us all about his hopes for 2023, and revealed his favourite Eurovision entries of all time.

Interview: Theoz “Mer av dig” (Melodifestivalen 2023)

How are you doing these days, while preparing for Melodifestivalen?

I’m very excited for my participation this year. There has been a lot of rehearsals and preparations these last couple of weeks, and to combine that with school has been a lot, but I’m very grateful to be able to be a part of Melodifestivalen again.

You compete in heat two in Linköping with the song “Mer av dig”. Tell us a little bit about your song.

It’s a Swedish up tempo song with a lot of energy and dance. Much like last year, however I feel like this song is next level.

You participated at Melodifestivalen 2022 with the song “Som du vill”. How did you feel when you made it to the final? What did you learn from your former participation, something that will help you this year too?

It was a big moment for me since I didn’t really expect to make it to the final, but it was an amazing feeling that will stay with me forever. I learned that I really need to take in the whole experience this year, since everything was new last year, there were a lot of new impressions so it was difficult to relax. An advantage would be that I feel more confident and secure than last year.

You got a record deal when you were only 12 years old. That’s incredible! How did you start your musical career? You always knew that you wanted to become a pop-star?

I’ve always loved music and dancing, however the singing part came later. My current record label reached out to me and asked if I wanted to try singing, so I did and immediately loved it. So I didn’t always dream about being a singer, but I’ve always wanted to become a performer of some kind.

You are a very well-known influencer. Tell us a bit about your first videos on TikTok and YouTube.

I started making videos for fun when I was very young. I’ve always done things I love and gone my own way and I guess that is what was appealing to other people. I started to gain followers but just kept doing what I thought was fun and that is why I’m able to do what I do today.

Who’s your role model in music?

My songs aren’t really inspired by anyone, however I think that Benjamin Ingrosso is very talented and I really look up to him.

Are you a Eurovision fan? If yes, what are your favourite Eurovision songs?

I really liked last years’ entry from Spain, Chanel with “SloMo”. Another all time favourite is Alexander Rybak with “Fairytale”.

Beside music, you also have an acting career. How did you feel when you got a leading role in the movie Rymdresan? Did you enjoy the filming?

Yes it was a very interesting, fun and difficult experience. And since everything was filmed in front of a green screen it was even more difficult to get into the role. But I really enjoyed it and would love to get the opportunity to do it again!

Last year you released two EPs, Paradise and the Christmas EP Julmusiken. Tell us a bit of each of them. Which are your dearest songs from these two EPs?

“Paradis” is very much summer vibes and my favourite from that EP is probably “Shady”. And on my Christmas EP there are 3 very different new songs, one very classic Christmas song, “Julmusiken”, which is my favourite, one very up tempo and one more chill.

At the end of this interview, what message would you like to share with your followers and with our wiwibloggs readers?

I want to thank everyone who have supported me through all these years. 2023 is going to be an exciting year with new music coming soon and touring in Sweden so I hope I will see many of you guys around.

Not directly related to this post, but I wonder if wiwi will get to have an early listen to the songs from each melodifestivalen deltävling and give their reactions. Also curious to see if we’ll get the song previous/rehearsal clips from SVT on thursdays like the last few years.

A bop in SWEDISH for a change could give Sweden a more interesting path to success in Eurovision!

But wouldn’t They make them translate to English anyway, if a Swedish language song won? The last Swedish winners since 1999 had translated their songs into English for Eurovision.

Thanks for the interview. Fantastic for Theoz; he looks great too.
Off-topic: Would this kind of article disqualify any of the competitors in Malta if it wasn’t cleared with TVM?

I’d like a swedish song to represent us this year and if theoz song is amazing, then let’s hope we see him in Liverpool in May!

LOL no. It is a song for teens. Jon Henrik has the bigger chance to do well. And even that is a huge if, since neither juries nor audience favour Swedish songs. And why should we, have you heard any Swedish song worthy of winning?

Key word “I’d” as in I would like, as in my opinion. JHF is still my fav to win so idc as long as we finally stop sending English songs all the time. Stop sounding miserable lmao
