Nu kör vi! It’s one of the highlights of national final season, and this Saturday 4th February Sweden’s Melodifestivalen returns for 2023. Now you can listen to snippets of the songs competing in heat one.

Seven acts are set to take to the stage in Göteborg. Two of them will earn tickets direkt till final, while another two will be sent to the second-chance semi-finals.

As always, the full songs of each competitor are kept under lock and key until the actual performances. But SVT like to tease us, and the Swedish broadcaster has now released one-minute snippets of the seven songs in heat one.

Take a listen to each of them below. Then scroll down to let us know which song has caught your attention by voting in our poll.

Melodifestivalen 2023: Heat one snippets

Click on the song titles to listen to the snippets.

Poll: Who should win heat one of Melodifestivalen 2023?

You can vote for as many of the songs as you would like to. But as always, you can only vote once – so make it count!

What do you make of the snippets from heat one of Melodifestivalen 2023? Who is standing out to you on first listen? Sound off in the comments below!

Men herregud, vilka trista låtar!

I hope next heats will be better because in this one, except for one song, we hear the same melodies and schablons that we hear every single year on MF. So boring, won’t even watch it tonight.

Not the strongest start for MelFest, no winner vibes. They (SVT) know how to produce great tv shows though.

Dino Medanhodzic is part of writing Tones song and he has a very good track record in the contest. >> Victorious – Lina Hedlund Troubled waters – Victor Crone Bulletproof – Dotter Little tot – Dotter In i dimman – Medina Bluffin – LIAMOO <<< It’s all of his songs in Melodifestivalen. What do they have in common? They all went direkt till final (directly to the final). These are his songs this year. Will the trend continue? Rhythm of my show – Tone Sekelius Royals – Paul Rey Also the genre raggardunk should be explained. It’s the kind of… Read more »

i can only be content if tone and jon go direkt till final for this heat, but as of now i don’t see either of these songs being winner material :// i hope the next three heats are better so i can finally get interested in this contest again

Not *all* of these songs are bad, but there’s an excess of bad songs among them, and the good ones easily blend in when watching recaps for the first / second time. Overall, I’d say that my top 10 are solid, and top 15 at least passable.

He was in the first quarter-final, so he wouldn’t be back for the fourth even if he hadn’t been disqualified. I’m confused. Did he have another song as a songwriter only, now also disqualified? Ah, distractions from real life. Thank you, Malta.

The only 2 I really liked were Loulou and Eva and Ewa, would love one of them in Eurovision and it’d be a nice change for Sweden to send a song in Swedish

I am actually a little taken aback by the quality of songs in this Semi from Melfest…they usually start so strong…outside of Jon Henrik I don’t think any of the others would qualify…hopefully the live performances lift some of these songs…and I am not a Sweden hater–it is always my favorite national final in terms of production and overall song quality and variety…but 6 of these are just meh

I’ve been listening to Victor Crone’s discography since Storm, and his laid-back country-pop / slightly EDM style really works for me. Thus, Diamonds is the one entry was fairly sure would be good to me, and no surprises there. I really like it. Jon Henrik’s yolk being featured within a well-made pop song could work too. I think he’d be my second finalist. Tone, with her slick banger anthem, and the adorable Eva & Ewa are likely my AC (semi) qualifiers. The ballad feels slightly too slow, but could build-up into something. The other two sound fine, but not very… Read more »

Imma be honest
No bad songs here, but Tone was the only one who impressed me on my first listen
The Jon Henrik trio is my second favorite, I think these two acts are the safest picks to qualify for the final
It’s either them or Victor sneaking in with a good performance
Eva & Ewa are iconic as usual, I really liked Elov & Beny and Loulou too
Rejhan is simply okay, will probably finish last tomorrow night

Overall, this heat is good but probably not the strongest we’ll see

I usually I roll my eyes at people when they say melfest is weak year after year, but I admit this is kind of a weak start for Sweden. Obviously, this isn’t as bad as some other national finals this year, but it’s also not the strongest we’ve seen from Sweden in the past. The full versions of the songs that we’ll hear tomorrow might make the difference, but I think it’s clear that we’re not gonna get the winner here from this heat. I’d like to be an optimist, so let’s hope this is a case of it’s not… Read more »

lol yes, Sweden really should aim for the heights of Ireland. Turning a hopeless NQ selection into a slightly less hopeless but still hopeless enough NQ selection is the ultimate goal.

It feels like Jon Henrik’s high time is over, but I’ll listen to the full version. I don’t dislike it but it probably won’t get him too far. I like Rejhan’s snippet, this could be a nice one. Victor is also okay. Expectedly uninspired but still pleasant. Three decent ones. The rest doesn’t interest me.

I see what they did here! no doubt these are good songs but not winning songs. I’m waiting for Heat 4 to hear Loreen’s song “Tattoo”, it’s clear to me that this is the song with the most potential to win, that’s for sure, it’s the last song to be revealed. I’m glad it will be revealed during this month and not in March tho…

Wow, it seems like too many countries this year aren’t acing their games. I have not spotted a single song this season that would scream “UNIQUE!” or “DIFFERENT!”. Everyone is trying to copy-paste either radio-friendly songs or retro-disco inspired songs from the 80s and 90s. Nobody is attempting to introduce a new flavor or start a new trend. People are lazy af nowadays.

P.S. I’m not saying the songs are bad; it just feels like they’ve been offered for the hundredth time this season.

Well, not exactlly that . You can see originality in Portugal (Edmundo Inácio – a Festa), or Spain (Blanca Paloma for instance), or Albanian song.

I’m trying to be less harsh on Sweden after overhyped auto-tuned Norway produced only one single entry that I listen to from their selection, which is Atle, somewhat unexpectedly.

Well, listen again in some national selections. Some countries have really interesting song(s) to propose.
Anyway, it’s for sure that we won’t be searching for originality in Melodifestivalen.

If you want originality you have to create a whole new genre. Because originality doesn’t excist any more. Or maybe you mean “weirder” than usual?

Tove absolutely the best here! Would not be surprised if she wins the heat. And then Jon Henrik probably to final too even if it his weakest effort so far
Elo & Benny sounded fun and Loulou had a nice sound. I predict semifinal for these two
That said, this was a pretty weak standard heat. No eventual winner to be found here. But the first heat us usually the weakest…

Heat one had Loreen in 2012, Benjamin Ingrosso in 2018, The Mamas in 2020 and Cornelia Jacobs in 2022… And if the winner is not in heat one then almost always the 2nd place finish will be… So usually heat one is pretty good.

No one thought Mamas or Cornelia would win, even during snippets. These are nice songs but no European competors to be found here. But who knows?
