Alessandra Mele Norway Eurovision 2023

The search for Subwoolfer’s successor concludes this weekend. At the grand final of Melodi Grand Prix 2023, nine acts will compete for the right to represent Norway at Eurovision in Liverpool.

Ahead of the MGP final, we asked our readers to vote for which act they think should win. And now, the results are in.

Alessandra a favourite to win Melodi Grand Prix 2023

It was a close race, but coming out on top in our poll is Alessandra with “Queen of Kings”. The monarch of all monarchs went through to the final after placing in the top three of semi-final 1. In our poll, Alessandra picked up a grand total 1,145 votes — that’s 28.42% of the votes.

Close behind in second place is former Melodi Grand Prix champion Ulrikke. An early favourite to win the competition, Ulrikke’s emotional ballad “Honestly” picked up 1,011 votes — or 25.09% of all votes cast.

Rounding out the top three is fan favourite JONE, bringing EDM-folk fusion with “Ekko Inni Meg”. In our poll, JONE received 612 votes — that’s 15.19% of the total vote.

Further down the table, MGP veteran Elsie Bay places fourth with “Love You In a Dream”, while Eline Thorp’s “Not Meant To Be” places fifth.

I must admit, I am now completely sick of hearing QoK. It’s just not my cup of tea. However, I think Ekko inni Meg is very good. I’ll probably vote for that tonight.

Honestly (no pun intended) I’d prefer Elsie Bay, Jone, Alessandra and Atle over Ulrikke for Eurovision.

Well done, Norway! It’s a very high-quality final. Bra gjort! Now, I have had a feeling of Swing It winning the final. Voting in NO is always surprising and that act stands out from the rest. Other than that Jone perhaps. Atle’s and Eline Thorpe’s songs are also high contenders. Let’s see. Best of luck to all entries. They deserve it. I cannot see queen of the kings winning despite the hype, not to mention Ulrikke’s ballad, sorry.

My faves are Jone and Elsie, both songs are great lyrically and musically!

Not getting it. Two most predictable and generic songs topping this poll. None of those two can achive good result in Norway. I’d rather opt for Atle,Ekko Inni Meg, Elise Bay or even Umami Tsunami.

I have a feeling both entries won’t make it to the Top-3 of the voting.

For me, it is Elsie Bay. Her song and performance were outstanding. I also like Alessandra, but staging was not as good as I expected. I hope Elsie will have her chance this year after being robbed of the previous year.

This is hard bc I want ulrikke to go to ESC so badlyyyy. But unfortunately her song will not get Norway their best possible placement. Ultimately I will be thrilled for her if she wins but I think Alessandra and Jone will get a better placement. Although ulrikke deserves to live her ESC dream.

I gotta give it to MGP, how every year they let very different songs compete, in stiles, attitude and etc. What can they do if fans still focus on upgraded Melfest-kinda songs and returning fan favourites from recent years

Let’s be clear Alessandra’s song will do nothing at Eurovision. She will likely qualify for the Final and come in at 15-20 on the scoreboard. People keep talking about bangers. This has no charm or innovation in it. It’s not Fuego, it’s not Lasha Tumbai, it’s not Euphoria. It’s much more like the quality of Hurricane from Serbia with a Nordic flair. Spirit in the Sky had a 1000 times more likeability.

You’re generous. Mata Hari was a better song and finished 20th with the same staging.

And do you think Ulrikke would be top 10 or?

I don’t think it’s Norway’s year based on the songs we’ve seen so far this year in the National selections (a lot of which are very strong). I think that Ulrikke or Atle’s song is more emotionally connective but as we saw with Viktoria (Bulgaria) it doesn’t always work. I have a feeling a quirky banger like Cha Cha Cha will do better this year or Ukraine will win it again because of sympathy telepvoting.

Victoria’s song came 6the with the televote in the semis and performed with the jury, coming joint 10th essentially is not a bad result, I do wish the public appreciated more though.

Elsie and Jone are the ones I consistently listen to, but I’d be happy with many of these entries: Alessandra, Ulrikke, Eline, even Swing’it is a guilty pleasure!

Atle for me. I’d still like to know why he can’t be there for his child, though.

I don’t get the Ulrikke hype (cliched and dated and somewhat screaming vocals) and Alessandra (flat and autotuned – can the girl sing without it?) To me the best songs are Eline and Atle P. My vote will go to the latter tomorrow evening!

She can sing, she needs to improve a bit but she sang the majority of the song well plus it was probably nerves.

I like Alessandra’s song, very catchy, improving with time! But I really really like Atle’s Masterpiece, it’s cool. Happy that at least 200 people agree with me =)

Is it too late to change the lyrics of Honestly? Just at the end. Use past tense, give it a happy ending. That would be much more fitting with the triumphant tone, clap-alongs, and fireworks.

The person who the song is about is sitting in the audience, teary-eyed, so obviously it actually did have a happy ending. The song should have the full story, if only to give some progress to the lyrics instead of repeating the same thing again and again.

I’ll be honest, whilst I think it’ll be between Ulrikke and Alessandra, I personally think Elsie should be in the mix although i’m fairly sure it won’t be. I genuinely am not getting the Ulrikke hype, perhaps its a 2020 redemption thing or she’s completely redoing her staging and singing in Norweigan, idk but I think aside from her vocal (which is brilliant) the song and particularly the performance felt to me like one of the weaker ones which qualified. It’s predictable, ballad by number visually and auditorily and I feel like it wouldn’t necessarily achieve a position at esc… Read more »

I also liked Elsie’s staging a lot. The theatrical, cinematic value it possessed is not to be seen in any other entry this year. Atle’s staging is solid yet too Melfest and seen-before for me. I wouldn’t mind an Elsie victory as she is my second place

I mean, Ulrikke’s song is interesting enough to make you think it’s good on the first listen because it has those anthemic elements thrown in, but if you really give it some *attention*, then you quickly realize that there’s nothing there. Not much, anyway. That’s how I felt. A song can have this supposedly heavy and meaningful backstory and still suck and be empty at the same time. Hawaii says hello. It’s Mcdonalds. Tastes good at first but all you’re left with is empty calories.

Agree with both of you, (Atle’s staging is very Melfest and at that i’d say more finalist than winner) also I agree with the anthemic qualities of Honestly making it perhaps initially more interesting than it is. Also like that nod to attention (which I personally much preferred).

It will be an interesting and unpredictable final. It’s between Ulrikke, Alessandra and Atle (dark horse) at this point. Jone’s song won’t do very well with the juries and Elsie won’t have such a big televoting support. Alessandra might even be the favourite to win at this point even (as a fan of “Honestly”, I am honestly terrified rn 🙂 ).

Ari

I would choose Atle. The full version convinced me. It is rather plain and basic but very pleasant and given the lackluster competition, it’s my clear winner in Norway. I also wanna add that I find it a sign of terrible quality when an entry like Skrellex makes it to the final of a rather huge NF which is considered one of the main events. I like Norway less and less after the terrible Stig guy’s auto-tune changes and the very questionable Eurovision acts they brought in 2022 and 2017. The days of me loving Norway for top quality like… Read more »

Atle has a solid song and I would certainly prefer him to Alessandra or Jone. I think he will have jury support and he might be high in televoting as well given that he is well-known in Norway. I wouldn’t count out a somewhat dark-horse win for him.

But will his song go down well in a televote only semifinal at Eurovision? That’s My only reservation. I don’t think Norway will be placed in the number two spot and just have Sweden and Finland for support that could push it over, but I don’t see it as a semi final winner.

I can only imagine the fandom temper tantrum if he wins as we’ve seen earlier this season with Belgium. I can see it happen because he’s the only male ballad and the three female ballads could split the vote.

I don’t think Atle would necessarily garner the same reaction winning MGP as Gustaph did, considering I think many people thought Gustaph’s entry was possibly the weakest in the selection. There could possibly be some backlash though considering the popularity of Alessandra and Ulrikke and Jone.

Fair enough, masterpiece probably wouldn’t provoke that big a tantrum, but if swing it, or skrellex wins, that would really cause a forest fire on the Internet.
