It’s almost time for Germany to decide its act for Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool. But before Unser Lied für Liverpool officially kicks off, another race is wrapping up. Ikke Hüftgold has won the TikTok wildcard vote and will join the lineup of the German Eurovision selection.

For only one week, TikTok users had the chance to give a wildcard spot to one of six participants taking part. Ikke’s victory was announced through a special online show. Ikke will compete with the song “Lied mit gutem Text”.

Ikke Hüftgold wins Unser Lied für Liverpool TikTok wildcard

Ikke Hüftgold is a party-schlager singer with a huge fan community. Ikke’s song “Lied mit gutem Text” — literally “Song with good lyrics” — won the TikTok wildcard vote with more than 50% of the total vote.

Nu-metal band From Fall to Spring placed second with TikTok voters, while pop-soul singer JONA placed third.

The acts who made it to fourth, fifth and sixth position only received 6% of all TikTok votes.

  1. Ikke Hüftgold – “Lied mit gutem Text” – 52%
  2. From Fall To Spring – “Draw The Line” – 28%
  3. JONA – “10/10” – 14%
  4. Betül – “Heaven” – 3%
  5. Mitchy & André Katawazi x NashUp – “Summertime” – 2%
  6. Leslie Clio- “Free Again” – 1%

Promising a lot of variety this year, German broadcaster NDR picked a selection of diverse songs for the Eurovision selection Unser Lied für Liverpool. German fans have been very happy with the pre-selected eight acts. But now, the wildcard candidate throws more variety into the mix.

Germany at Eurovision 2023: Unser Lied für Liverpool

Broadcaster NDR announced that the final result at Unser Lied für Liverpool will be decided by a combination of votes from the public and international juries. Eight juries, representing eight countries, made up of five music experts will decide 50% of the outcome. The other half of the votes will come from the public.

The public can vote via SMS, telephone and online. Online voting will open before the show starts, giving fans the opportunity to support their favourite act without actually knowing how the performance looks like.

The running order is yet to be revealed. Barbara Schöneberger will once again host the German national final.

Who is your favorite in the German line up? Do you think Ikke is the right wildcard winner and could help Germany finally get a decent result at Eurovision? Let us know in the comments below.

If only the audience had a say in the NF this would win.

Germany had a joke act the last time the contest was in the UK. My one consolation if this wins would be that I’ll take it as tradition.

Whilst people like whacky songs, this doesn’t even feel as melodic as most of the Moldovan entries of the last decade. Also another notable difference is that whilst Moldovan songs can be quite eclectic, they seem to have a very cohesive, purposeful and specific aesthetic for their entries (typically including lots of colour), this song feels like a mess and lyrically it more in line with citi zeni although the visual and even the song isn’t as good (I didnt even love citi zeni at first but I could appreciate their stage package and energy).

As a German Eurovision fan, I can only say one thing: The probability that this guy will go to the Eurovision with this terrible song for Germany is unfortunately very high. He is well known, produces and sings many Schlager-Ballermann songs and also took part in the German version of Celebrtity Big Brother. The other artists in the netional selection are simply not known to the people. I never heard of Patty Gurdy or Lord of the Lost before. I still have a glimmer of hope that the international jury will save us from this guy. As far as the… Read more »

And this is why tiktok deciding the wildcard was not a good idea.

Lets hope (and I’d assume) the televote at esc won’t be as questionable.

If it wins, then we should not underestimate the eurofans. We know what happened last year with Moldova. Or 2018 with Moldova, or 2017 with Moldova. You get the point: If Ikke wins and manages to turn the hall into a big party, than at least 23rd should be possible for us.

Disagree. It is very popular among certain groups, but far from being the most popular genre. That is German rap.

Ballermann music is super popular on Ballermann, apres-ski and carneval. But majority of people just hate it.

I can’t really say that there was any song I would be happy if it won the wildcard – all of them sound like they were cut for a very good reason. Let’s just hope this won’t end up being this years Sister by Sisters.

I guess it could have been an appropriate entry for the Germans if the contest were to be held in Mallorca or somewhere along those lines. I don’t actually mind the ironic lyrics tho, at least it’s got something going for it.

Beyond help. I checked out the other German finalists yesterday. Frida Gold’s song makes me really müde. Is that what they wanted to achieve? Nein danke to that. Will Church is decent, I’m not saying it would do well, but at least it’s not disgusting or depressing. Lonely Spring aren’t so bad, either. All in all, another selection worth skipping. How much does Barbara get paid to do this hopeless show every year and does she need anti-depressants to get through it?

A lot of people don’t like it but you cannot deny that there is something amazingly GERMAN about it! This is what Germans normally listen to and so wouldn’t actually be a bad one to send. It would be a moment on the stage and certainly do well with the televotes!

Mircs

I‘m not sure where you got the ‚this is what Germans normally listen to‘ from but it is mainly music you would hear either on Mallorca when you just stay there to drink until pass away or you‘ll living in a rural area where they‘re doing some fiests for the community in tents. But apart from these contexts I wouldn’t say that it’s a regular song the population would listen to, neither any serious radio station would air it. Plus a lot of Germans find this kind of music unenjoyable.

There is a Bloodhound Gang quality to this track and I quite like The Bloodhound Gang. I don’t understand German, but I’m guessing the lyrics are tonally quite similar as well, so this one may shoot up my favourites, particularly because I feel like there are far too many serious and safe entries so far this year.

My favourite was From Fall to Spring though so I am a bit gutted as that is a quality piece of nu-metal throwback.
