If I have to choose, I go with Theoz and Wiktoria. Though I only kind of liked Theoz
Benjamin Rosenbohm, as Ben from Ben & Tan from Denmark 2020??? So happy that he is back
ooh you are right!!
He also co-wrote John Lundvik’s “Änglavakt” in 2022 Melfest 🙂
Christer, come back!! All if forgiven. Theoz’s song seems reasonably good everything else is simply not good enough. I remember calling Sweden’s leftovers that would find their way to other National finals and picked up by other countries as “Melfest rejects”—-thats what lots of these sound like. Maybe other National finals have just gotten up to or exceeded Melfest levels. Or maybe Christer was simply better at picking songs.
Last year was the first Melfest without Christer and we ended up with a really strong winner that finished fourth in Eurovision. Sometimes you get a weak year. I’m not raising my expectations because it’s Mello but I’m hoping the second half of the songs are stronger or at least Loreen has the best song of the selection.
I am surprised to see a Melfest heat without a good song. Eden’s studio track sounded pleasant but the live clip was a different story..
I think Karin that took over from Christer Björkman is too political and mainstream which shows very clearly in the junk we get.
You can’t both be moral cops and then act surprised that producers won’t take risks, they simply don’t wanna get canceled and have their careers ruined. We need more Hataris, Lordis and Måneskins.
What is so political?
And why is that bad? MF and ESC have always been aware of what is going on in the world. You can not escape that..
It’s so over for the Swedes, it seems
As usual way to much drama in the comments!
This is miles above heat 1! 4 of the songs could easily qualified last week. More fun songs, better standard!
Nobody.
I think Wiktoria and Theoz will go straight to the final and Panetoz and Maria Sur will go to the semi final.
had Alessandra gotten this love she has got if she would have represented us? I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT with that said, many esc-fans are as always overreacting when it comes to our selection, as we say here in Sweden “Melodifestivalen berör” Do I think it´s the best Melfest ever? No, is it the worst? No 14 songs to go, we hear this EVERY SINGLE YEAR, “it´s the worst ever” “Sweden sends junk” The main reason why this reaction always comes (and I will get massive amount of downvotes for telling this) comes down to that we have gotten too good… Read more »
So what have been the best and worst melfests in your opinion?
As a fan of melodifestivalen, I must say this is one of the worst editions (since I started following)
When did you start following melfest?
I agree that fans would’ve hated Alessandra had she represented Sweden (and it wouldn’t be crazy, her song is indeed overrated and dated). But this year’s MF so far has been underwhelming, this time for real xd
Yikes these are all kind of… awful
Can I remind everyone that Ukraine held Vidbir in the basement of a frickin’ subway station and it was 100 times better than this year’s melodifestivalen so far!
Low-key I wish for Ukrainian artists to be more renowned in the future, they’re so slick!
Theoz is my winner in this heat. Together with Maria Sur my qualifiers for the final. Wiktoria’s song I found really underwhelming and repetitive. So far it’s still Jon Henrik miles above the rest for me and he would be a worthy representative for Sweden at Eurovision.
Is it just me or is Melfest one of the weakest selections this year? I have not liked any of the songs so far.
Okay, I read some comments now and I am not alone on this.
All it takes is one song though. Maybe heat 3 or 4 will have it.
I agree.
I love THEOZ’s song.. it is very fun song.. lets gooo!
I guess Wictoria – if the question was who deserves to win, then it would be noone. All the songs are so mediocre it’s sad.
This Heat is very weak 🙁
Tennessee Tears has the best song in my opinion
Second would be Panetoz
And Theoz/Maria for ACH
“Who should win Melodifestivalen 2023 Heat 2?”
nobody!
again not a great selection, the problem is everything sounds so unoriginal like its been heard a hundred times before
Yet Norway’s entry which sounds like a mix of other songs and is not exactly original gets praise.
Norway’s entry is miles ahead of all melodifestivalen songs this year combined
And if it represented Sweden there would still be complaints about how unoriginal it is. How it is the same stuff as usual from Sweden and that it only will do well cause it is Sweden..
Indeed, and Norway has the same problem too
Not a single snippet that would have made me want to hear the whole song, in from one ear and out from the other. That backtrack also is very heavy this year, overpowering the actual singing.
I’m a bit disappointed with Melodifestivalen this year so far but I think it’s only as my expectations are always so high for Sweden. These songs are still decent and are well-produced but they’re nothing special. I’m hoping the next two heats are better but I wish Sweden would take more risks rather than just having loads of the same artists and songwriters every year as it just gets boring.
I wonder what actual swedes think about this year’s melfest.
I’m Swedish & this is far better than last week
Wiktoria & Theoz in the final for sure
I have Swedish roots & this Heat is very weak … Heat 1 was much better. Elov&Beny would have been in the final if they would sang in Heat2
I admit the snippets felt a little better than last week, but I’ll watch the full performances tomorrow on the iPlayer to see if they really are an improvement or they’re worse. There were fans to be calling melfest weak for years when it wasn’t true, but I have to say this is a weak start or possibly weak half of the 28 entries. I hope the finish is better than the start.
Its 17 newcomers this year. Get your facts right
Yes, that’s why I mentioned songwriters too. Most of these newcomers are working with the same songwriters we get every year which is why nothing sounds new or original anymore.
There are so many drama queens around! This week has way better performances and songs than last week. Sweden is warming up!
There is something charming about Eden I quite like but the song itself it weak.
is weak*
I really liked the studio cut but the rehearsal clip was very disappointing. Love the song, hated the performance sadly.
The first two heats of MF 2023 are DMGP level.
Ouch, that’s harsh. I feel like right now Finland and Norway are the better Nordic national finals and Denmark and Iceland are the weaker ones. Where Sweden falls is gonna depend on the rest of the songs released in two weeks time.
I have completely forgotten to listen to Icelandic songs
Doomsday Dancing is one I’d highly recommend!
To tell you the truth, I actually haven’t listened to the Icelandic songs in full yet because the first semifinal isn’t until next week and I’m trying to focus on selection playlist that are scheduled earlier in the calendar. I’ve only heard of a snippet recap video, and it didn’t seem promising to me. That’s my opinion could change when I listen to them in full, but I can’t decide if I should listen to the Icelandic songs first or the English language versions. Perhaps a listen to the songs in English first, so that they can have a fair… Read more »
Maria and Victoria, but they are not strong entries. But they were the best of this group.
Melfest is struggling, the fact that there’s not one song I love in 2 heats is worrying.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but if Melfest continues to serve lackluster pop in every heat next year too, they’ll need to revamp their format and change how they select their act. Norway and Finland’s selections are leagues ahead of Melfest at the moment.
Sweden are more likely to withdraw than to pick their entry in a different way.
it might have to take a non-qualification to make sweden change.
I think last year the situation was the same, but the stronger entries and eventual winner was in heat 1. The other 3 heats did not have much to offer.
I know its a highly successful show but maybe it just needs shortened slightly, even in stronger years a lot of it is repetive sounds we have heard before
They have had pop every year and NOW you react. The other countries have also had pop every year
sweden is off to a really rough start with these songs… is it wrong for me to hope they NQ this year as a wake up call to change it up a bit? it sounds like the songs released so far were all written with AI. i’ve always been a big fan of melfest but this year feels like such a significant downgrade in quality as compared to years past. i haven’t heard a song yet that would be a surefire qualifier at eurovision aside from jon henrik, and this is his weakest attempt to date… i’d probably have to… Read more »
I mean lets stay real here. The winner of melodifestivalen will still be miles ahead of countries like ireland, malta, latvia etc. Semi 1 is competitive so the chance of Sweden missing out is plausible but the fandom has this crazy ‘Sweden sends terrible trash every year and deserves to stay in the semi finals’ narrative that gets repeated year after year meanwhile other countries get praised for mediocrity if they slightly raise their quality up from a previous failure.
Theoz was surpisingly the best in this heat. I think he’s going DTF together with Panetoz/Maria Sur/Wiktoria
Agree. Theoz brings a very nice performance.
No one should win this heat.
Honestly, If Loreen doesn’t bring something better than this, I could see Sweden not making it to the final
Tone and Jon Henrik exist, you’re overreacting. Some songs this year might nq, but I don’t think they will choose any of those.
Yeah, Melodi has been a Melodud thus far
There is a likely chance she could have the best song, but will it be as good as euphoria? Also, if she’s the first artist to win Melfest twice since Charlotte Perrelli, being a returning winner isn’t always a guarantee that you’re gonna do well— Dana international failed to qualify in her second attempt. we’re only halfway through, and I feel like this heat is slightly better than last week, but I’d have to see the full songs to make a proper judgment on that. I also want to wait until all 28 songs are out to determine if this… Read more »
Jon Henrik slays and he should win! I am preparing my Azerbaijanic method for the Final 😀 haha
