Italy’s Sanremo Music Festival continued on Friday as 28 artists bidding for the Italian ticket to Eurovision 2023 took to the stage once more.

Are you watching Sanremo? Which duet was your favourite? Let us know in the comments below.
he has to win
Is him covering a Beatles song a coincidence or does he want a Liverpool connection?
Italians! Only you have the chance to stop your nation from sending a bland song which will be a downgrade from previous entries! You have some top 5 potential songs that you could send! I know you don’t care about Eurovision, but the whole world deserves to see Mr Rain and discover the message of his beautiful song! Vote for Supereroi and get it into the top 5! Then if there’s another round of voting, you can potentially give him a win in the superfinal if Mr Rain’s vote counts are so high and steal it off Marco! I’m telling… Read more »
Mr Rain’s song currently has the SECOND most number of views on Youtube for both the studio and the live version, which says it all. The people want Mr Rain and he would be a better choice than Marko.
Mr Rain definately. And Madame as well.
Marcos wasn’t a duet anyway. It was him and back up singers
Italians care about Sanremo, not who they send to Eurovision.
Yeah, but even if you repeat it one million times to these fans they don’t understand. We choose quality, not a catchy tune with a nice production to win Sanremo and then Eurovision. We don’t care about winning Eurovision with a bad song or winner. This year the best singer is Marco Mengoni with his incredible voice and a “bland” ballad, as some of you say. And he will win Eurovision. The nice production of Lazza or Madame, or the not equivalente voice of Ultimo will not win this night.
Italian here, I don’t think Mengoni has a great song and I’m not a fan of his voice either, I don’t like eccesive vocalizations or his way of singing, and the song IS bland. I understand why many think he’s great (and I’m not saying he’s not good in what he does) but I still don’t appreciate his voice or singing style, like I can understand why Mariah Carey is considered an amazing singer but I can’t listen to her. It’s just a matter of taste. If Mengoni and Ultimo didn’t have the biggest and most fanatic fanbases I’m not… Read more »
I agree with you. Marco Mengoni’s song is boring, bland ballad which would probably very few points from the audience. Even if they don’t çare about Eurovision, they should not choose a boring entry.
Supereroi is a bland no sense song. Anyway, who cares about ESC??? Take care from Italy
Sorry, but Italy decided to keep Mr Rain as a secret. They say the governance want him to wear wig and renamed him Lady Rainbow, just for safe.
A culture doesn’t work about pleasing the world. A culture has its own business, and as Italy created Mr Rain, Italy does what Italy feels like. If the Divine Voice of Reasons doesn’t like Due Vite that’s not such a problem. And, by the way, if Mengoni is boring, Mr Rain isn’t that cannon shot.
I love Marco but I don’t think that his cover was the best yesterday, but I admire him because he has brought a real cover and not “a cover” of one of his songs of the past (like Anna Oxa, Gianluca Grignani, Giorgia, Articolo 31).
Surely the performance of Giorgia and Elisa was stunning, but I think that they had an easy advantage by singing two of their iconic songs of the past
With that voice his cover was not the best? Are you kidding?
Agree and it was not a DUET ! It Waa him and back up singers. Everyone else knew the meaning of a duet. Manuel and GianMaria, Madame and Eros and Ultimo were my top 3 .
Who I hope to see in superfinal:
Marco
Lazza
Mr.Rain
Madame
Giorgia
People forgeting about Mahmood/Maneskin and Diodato … They were not N1 and won! I feel Marco will not win 🙂 Lets manifestate this opinion
How rotten to manifest for someone to lose instead for someone to win!
Sounds familiar.. Well, isn’t that the attitude against Sweden??
Marco Mengoni has won all the SanRemo’s nights, he must be far ahead from the others so it’s impossible for somebody else to win tomorrow, moreover he will probably win the televote tomorrow too, it’s safe to say that Jonas will be euphoric tomorrow night 😉
Voting will start from 0 with Top 5
Hopefully this will give Mr Rain an advantage.
Everything will be restarted in superfinal, so we’ll see.
Ok in the superfinal everything is reset to zero but seeing the streams of Marco song compared to others, knowing that Italy loves him so much, and knowing that Italy loves their nice classical ballads….he will win it. Does he want to come back to Eurovision, if not it will be Rai choice….gIANMARIA, Olly, Madame, Rosa Chemical would be my choices.
He already said he wants to do it. Last night the cover he sang was ‘Let it be’ by the Beatles (formed in Liverpool). Says it all.
”Italy loves their nice classical ballads”. Except for the fact that they had four non-ballads winning in the last six years – Occidentalis karma, Non mi avete fatto niente, Soldi, Zitti e buoni.
Non mi avete fatto niente IS a ballad. Occidentallis Karma was hardly a banger.
Ummm…. what? NMAFN is an uptempo pop/rock song. The *only* thing why some might say it’s a ballad is that it’s lyrically heavy and emotional. Doesn’t make it a ballad. I’d call OK a “banger”, but even if one wouldn’t, it’s still very much uptempo. I disagree with the view that anything apart from hard rock or super-fast ethnopop is “a ballad”.
Just checked – At 180 BPM, NMAFN is the fastest uptempo entry of ESC 2018. A soft rock / pop song. Not “a ballad” by tempo or instrumentation. And layered lyrics may accompany any genre, no matter how fast. I often wish they would more often.
Mr Rain has the second highest view count and streams for his song. I think it’s only fair he goes and the meaning of his song is one that the whole world should see.
Well done to the Kingdom Choir too, the covers win was just as much yours. Marco was right to give you the trophy.
Lazza is now third! Honestly, I could see him pulling Mahmood 2019 and win in superfinal.
1 Marco
2 Ultimo
3 Lazza
4 Mr. Rain
5 Giorgia
Classifica generale results for anyone who missed them. Marco number one four nights in a row. There is justice in this world, at least sometimes.
And have a good night from Italy, everybody!
Mengoni winning this Sanremo is kind of disapointing. I usually like or at least understand sanremo’s winners. This time, I really don’t like the song and I just feel it’s… Corny. And my opinion has nothing to do with Eurovision selection, it’s just how I feel about the song.
Mr Rain deserves to win.
Mr Rain’s is even cornier ??
That would create some problems. Those children (-16) are not allowed in Liverpool.
I’m Italian and I had to listen two times to fall in love with this song. It’s really powerful and the lyrics is amazing and written in a special way. Probably the Italian text loses power in translations into other languages
Mengoni winning the evening with that lazy a** cover is just… anyway
Stop crying and change your diapers!!!!
Agree and they call it duet night which clearly his wasn’t! Madame my fave with GianMaria and Ultimo
Clearly the real deserving winner was Giorgia with Elisa!
And Marco Mengoni wins the cover evening.
Mengoni teasing the eurofans with a Beatles song as he already knows he’s probably going to Liverpool.
With that voice and the performance of yesterday he can go everywhere for me.
A reminder Salirò should have won Sanremo 2002. And probably Eurovision 2002 for Italy as well
Weakest ESC year ever with the weakest winner ever, don’t even need to check Saliro but I’ll take your word for it.
You should listen to that song and some other from the same singer.
You can see the performance in Sanremo 2002 here:
https://youtu.be/x5TYa2wg_RU
Unfortunately Italy was not attending ESC in a 2002 but Salirò was an hell of a song.
12 points for Chiara Francini and that dress, she’s actually turning 44 this year!
Scratch that, 24 points. Thank you Amadeus, ahaha.
Marco M and Alessandra Norway in the top 200 of Itunes chart in UK today. Same time last year Mahmood & Blanco with Brividi appeared.
Amadeus said yesterday many songs of Sanremo are present in the charts of other countries.
Thank you to everyone. I really do have to go to sleep now, sorry. See some of you tomorrow. x
Buena notte. Sanremo is more important than work, but your choice. Dormi bene.
Bye
There’s actually still an hour to go lol
Less than that
I’d like to watch that Massimo Troisi documentary, but I think RAI geoblock everything except Sanremo. Sad face.
Use a VPN then.
Do you have a satellite antenna?
No, but maybe I’ll find a way. I’ve only seen about three of his movies, but there’s something about him.
The orchestra is playing from 4 hours and 20 minutes.
Remember last year when they had to play with masks on?
They love it though, it’s music. I did orchestras at Uni, and we had days when we would rehearse all afternoon. Then there were the gala concerts: Morning rehearsals, ugh. Then very late nights, just like this. But it’s all great fun.
Could you imagine Rosa Chemical performing on the Eurovision stage with a vibrator for anal sex.
Ha, it really is that late now.
Did he do that?
Well, he sang… Then got this anal vibrator on his hand out of nowhere… Hope he douched beforehand
Wait. How do I delete this comment lol
Impossible. Wiwibloggs team has decided you don’t have a chance to rethink your previous thoughts.
Omg I didn’t know Noemi was in this year’s Sanremo! What!!
Oh, it’s an interval act. Never mind.
Wait, it’s not an interval act. How can a cover of a song compete as an entry?
This is cover night. None of these songs are in contention for Liverpool. You’ll need to wait until tomorrow for that.
Read the above article…
Yeah, I just figured that out. No wonder they were doing all these medleys haha. Thanks.
Oh, it’s covers night! Don’t mind me.
Wow. The shade of getting rid of the flowers like that.
The song: ‘Oggi sono io”
Great song by a great guitarist! With an average and undeserving contestant (LDA)!
Son of Gigi d’Alessio.
What would happen if say these guys won? They would have to nix some of the members for Eurovision.
Only one of them is in the Sanremo contest.
These three funnymen are only on because Amadeus knew it would be unfair for anyone to come on straight after the magnificent Anna Oxa.
Where are these guys from? They got a funky accent.
They are called autogol. You can find them on Instagram. They were imitating Zlatan Ibraimovic, Max Allegri, etc.
Ah that makes sense. Thanks.
Omg Ana needs to win!!
One of the best song from Anna Oxa’s repertoire! But not her best version!
Haven’t been following all the way through but Madame was once again one of the highlights for me, she’s the type of artist that just commands your attention while on stage.
I’m a sucker for screaming ladies. Send her!!!
When did they start giving flowers to male contestants? This year or last year? I remember that up until 2021 they would only give flowers to the female contestants.
Last year if I remember well. Or two years ago.
Giving flowers only to women became untenable, thanks to the likes of Francesa Michielien who made their discomfort known.
I got given flowers for a gig once, and my friend got given a wine bottle. When I asked the stage manager about it, she just said I drank too much. That was fair, at the time. 🙂
My point is l, it might not be just down to a push for equality.
They make the men walk down the stairs too now.
Oh nooo, that’s my hopes dashed then. ( I usually fall down stairs.)
I’m sure they can arrange a stairlift for you.
When it’s after midnight and you have to look straight into a spotlight. Levante, I feel your eye pain. An emotive vocal though, bravo.
I have noticed face tattoos are quite popular in Italy.
Not judging, i just find it interesting.
I noticed “1998,” which I’m guessing was the year he was born?
Also, whenever I think of face tattoos, I think of Chakotay from ‘Star Trek: Voyager.’
Chemical Rose went too far and now looks ridiculous as a result. Sorry, not sorry.
I’ve got two tattoos myself but seriously, face tattoos should be illegal!
In some places, they are illegal.
I love “Sara perché ti amo”, but that rendition did not do much for me.
Indeed, also I’m beginning to think we’re the only ones who are still awake in this discussion.
Nine songs to go!
I admit I fell asleep for 45 minutes. I have missed Rosa Chemical and Madame. Aaaaarghhh.
Autotune mics. Please discuss.
(Personally I can’t stand them. I hear Madame is well-liked this year though, so… hmmm.)
I like them, as long it’s not used to pretend you can sing. I understand it’s Madame’s “thing”, but it wasn’t needed for the performance tonight. My advice? Let it be.
Oh, it’s the news. Did I miss the end of the show?
And… we’re back. Phew.
This is great, their voices go well together.
Intense interpretation.
Yeah, an intense song for after hours, and literally written by Afterhours. Aha, I love this show.
You remember that joke I made near the beginning of this discussion about the swimming pool? Well… it’s paying off now.
Ohh thank you, Marco and The Kingdom Choir. Gospel in the teatro. I know it won’t be to everyone’s taste, but I loved it. Marco’s surprisingly good in English too; nice to hear his vocal range too. 🙂
It is most uncharacteristic of me, but Marco Mengoni has finally convinced me to let it be. The old Jonas is gone.
Nice to meet you, new Jonas.
You can say whatever you want about Marco, but he slayed that song.
I am a fan of Marco but that was one of the most underwhelming covers of ‘Let It Be’ I’ve ever heard. Sounded like an X Factor or Voice audition…
Ok. MARCO MENGONI HAS SUNK THE FESTIVAL.
No, Marco, no. Not an original cover at all!
Even though Marco’s song isn’t my favorite, his vocals are undeniable
And he can do even better than that.
Wow those high vocals 🙂
I’d love to be able to do that, but my voice cracks at that range.
Ohh, gosh, we’re on…
And noooooow, Marco Mengoni.
