Malta’s journey to select an entry for Eurovision 2023 is almost over. Just 16 acts remain in the competition, and they’ll soon be whittled down to one at the grand final of Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

Following the semi-final on Thursday, we set up a quick flash poll to see who our readers were rooting for.

Now it’s time to reveal the results.

Brooke is a favourite to win Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2023

The semi-final has only strengthened the opinion of our readers. Brooke came out on top of our previous poll and does so once again here. The Maltese star picked up over one third of the vote, securing 38.41% of all those cast (343 votes specifically).

When it comes to the game of MESC 2023, Brooke may very well end the night with a “Checkmate” victory.

The only other act to receive more than 100 votes was The Busker. This charming trio have continuously won over fans throughout the competition. In the poll, they earned 202 votes (22.62%).

Maxine Pace claims the final podium spot. The MESC alum was awarded 95 votes (10.64%) for her ballad “Alone”.

If MESC is about picking the artist, Brooke is great. But CHECKMATE is dreadfully trite and boring.

Lmao I love how Stefan only got 8 votes despite spamming every group chat that he is in, where most of the people there can’t stand him anyway. Also, isn’t this the least voted for poll ever? It’s so worrying that interest in MESC is declining so rapidly and TVM are still blinded by ego.

Brooke has this in the bag, but her song needs something else added if Malta wants to qualify.

I’m unsure if it needs a revamp, if it needs a solid beat in the background or some ethnic elements, but as it stands this will struggle to qualify in Liverpool.

That chorus where she just repeats Checkmate ten times is lazy songwriter and no serious artists should choose such unoriginal songs.

The song is decent, but I agree that the chorus is lackluster. The chorus needs to be revamped or literally reconstructed.

I think its interesting the way eurovisionworld beside maltas selection has (artist selection) in brackets, I dont know if thats an indication the song will be changed or just covering themselves incase they decide to change the song. The two artists id like to see win the most is probably The Busker and Maxine, I like theBuskers song and i think televoters will gravitate twoards it. Maxine is a great singer and i thought the staging was quite nice. Eliana would probably be my third but id imagine it wont be selected. Brooke’s song isnt the most exciting and although… Read more »

The Busker are Malta’s only hope for a spot in the final. If they go with Brooke’s poor man’s Swedish Schlager they’ll probably do about as well as Christabelle did in 2018

Brooke has got the vocals but The Busker have the song and stage presence. Plus, I’m afraid that Brooke may do an Emma Muscat if she wins in the end…

A very poor selection of songs, if you ask me. Now watch them repeat their 2022 feat.

I like Maxine simply because the combination of her vocals and the staging they’ve already got could won the televoters, especially that butterfly drone!

happy to see the busker 2nd. while brooke has an extraordinary voice and stage presence, the busker are malta’s best shot at qualifying this year imo. they have a full package that works.

Brooke is OK but what the HELL is she wearing?? 0_0 it’s like Destiny’s dress from 2021 and not in a good way.. it’s makes her looks WAY larger than she is! I don’t like the color also…

I was just about to write the same thing. it distracted me slightly from the song. That said it is a song not an ethnic noise. Is it a winner ill reserve judgement until all song selected.

Brooke is probably going to win. They want her to win, just like Claudia Faniello previously compted for like 100 times, so the Maltese television decided it’s Brooke’s time, just to cut her from the list of the permanent participants year by year. The song is nothing special, typixal Melodiefestivalen reject. Most probably not a qualifier, but at least Brooke will represent Malta and we’ll all get rid of her. Vocally, she’s great. But the song itself it’s boring as hell. Aidan could have been Malta’s chance for success, since his song was a Bop. But they want to make… Read more »

Surely Azerbaijan cannot be an “automatic qualifier” in the absence of juries, no matter what they send?

Exactly. with televote alone Azerbaijan would be a non qualifier in 2014, 2015, 2018 and of course 2022

Well, Azerbaijan actually did fail to qualify in 2018.

While Brooke is trending in each international poll, Buskers are winning each poll in Malta and even gathering more likes than Brooke in social media. Just excited to each what will actually happen tonight.

What would happen if Brooke wins the jury, and the buskers wins the televote, and there’s a tie? Who is the tiebreaker, the jury or the televote?

Heaven forbid! This Brooke entry is rubbish! Malta, go with Busker and “Dance” and you will potentially receive my 12 points in Liverpool!
