They were among the first acts to be announced to represent their country in Liverpool. However, we’ve all had to wait a little longer to find out when Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper would release their Eurovision 2023 song. On Wednesday, Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS announced that 1 March would be the date.

In a short, but mysterious statement, the Dutch broadcaster wrote that the duo would share their track with the world on Wednesday next week.

Last year, songstress S10 released her Dutch-language song “De Diepte” in Amsterdam’s famous Tuschinski Theatre, one of the most iconic cinemas in the world.

Besides the release date, AVROTROS is keeping silent about everything. It’s clear that the Dutch want to build up tension. Earlier, Eurovision 2019 winner and the song’s co-composer Duncan Laurence told Lithuanian broadcaster LRT that he thinks the duo can follow his footsteps in winning gold.

He told LRT:

“If I didn’t believe you could win, I wouldn’t participate.”

Interestingly, AVROTROS referred in their latest statement to the lucky two as plainly Mia and Dion. Perhaps they are dropping the two surnames in an effort to make them more recognisable?

In an interview to Dutch paper AD, the duo denied that their song is called “Chasing Highs” — the title that was rumoured for a very long time. Nonetheless, while Dion talked about the song, it seemed very plausible that it could have been a demo title of sorts. He said:

“The song is an ode to falling and getting up. It’s about realising that we are just people who are also trying their best and that it is not bad to make mistakes. It’s about getting up afterwards, choosing something better and carrying on.”

What do you expect from the Dutch Eurovision 2023 song? Are you rooting for Mia and Dion? Let us know in the comments down below!

Don’t agree with you, there is hardly any attention for the song and singers in a lot of countries.

Wow! The amount of positivity here is refreshing! ….. Not
I don’t get all the hate by the eurovision community.
I am dutch. Of course I want us to do well. But I also realise that my country can’t win every year. Be happy for others as well please! Spread some positivity instead of hate.
(I am very happy for Australia this year as an example. And I want them to do well).

The more I see these photos of Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper, plus Duncan Lawrence joining them, it looks like a photoshoot for a new non-binary polyamorous dating app.

Intrigued, I wonder what we could expect…a big ballad, the singers don’t give me this vibe but Duncan loves the big beautiful ballads. A pop style song I don’t think at all, I could see something more indie rock but it’s not Duncan style….I’m lost about this act, I can’t really do some pronostics…maybe Duncan will surprise with something not in his style or with something out of box…answer in 6 days.

Shame? They can sing in any language they like. They even gave us creole in 2021. They don’t enter the contest just to function as your annual glimpse into Dutch culture.

I love that they did a song in Dutch for a change, but if they want to take a real shot at victory they have to go English. A Dutch song can’t win, most Europeans just don’t concider it to be a beautiful language.

How derogatory. Being “cheap” doesn’t make them of a lesser quality or something like that.

Well I do have expectations, I know we are talking about Mia & Dion as performing artists this year but as a songwriter Duncan deserves quite some credits. Besides Arcade that won Eurovision, he has a good list of very acceptable songs. My personal favorites are ‘Love Don’t Hate It’ (first song after Arcade I believe), ‘Someone Else’, ‘Last Night’ and ‘Back To Back (with Wrabel). And let’s not forget the banger ‘Feel Something’ (with Armin van Buuren), the intro act of semi-final 1 at Eurovision 2021. If his production for Mia & Dion reaches the same level as the… Read more »
