Another day – another semi final in San Marino. On Wednesday, the third show of the country’s Eurovision 2023 selection aired on SMRTV. In the end the jury panel chose four more acts for Saturday’s final. But another four made it through to the second chance.

A total of 24 acts performed. Then it was time to decide: Host Ilenia De Sena announced that Lorenzo Licitra, MAYU, NeVRuZ and Piqued Jacks are the lucky ones who qualified directly to the final. Down below, you can learn more about those acts.

But that’s not all since Lost City feat. Enrique, Luna Palumbo, MATE and Morgana have been chosen to perform again on Friday in the Second Chance round. MATE is an Italian singer who took part in San Marino already last year with her entry “DNA”. This year, she’s in the race with “Prisma” and hopes to make it to the final show.

With Nicole Hammet from Malta not making the cut, another singer who tried to make it to Eurovision before, is now eliminated. Earlier, Ciro De Luca from Romania, Jenny May from Latvia and Erna Hrönn from Iceland didn’t make it further in Una Voce per San Marino 2023. All of them tried to represent their home country in the past.

Una Voce per San Marino: Semi final Three results

Qualified for the final:

Lorenzo Licitra – “Never Give Up”
MAYU – “C’e qualcosa in me”
NeVRuZ – “L’Alieno”
Piqued Jacks – “Like An Animal”

Qualified for the Second Chance show:

Lost City feat. Enrique – “Titan”
Luna Palumbo – “Batticuore”
MATE – “Prisma”
Morgana – “A Lonely Night In Shanghai”

Semi final three acts – Qualified for the final

Lorenzo Licitra – “Never Give Up”

30-year-old Lorenzo Licitra shot to fame in his home country of Italy back in 2017 when he won X Factor. Originally performing opera, he’s now doing modern pop music and wants to represent neighbour San Marino at Eurovision 2023. Lorenzo hails from Sicily and has already had gigs in Turkey, South Africa and the United States.

MAYU – “C’e qualcosa in me”

Singer MAYU is the only qualifier today who’s not from Italy. The young songstress lives in Switzerland, but she sings a song in Italian. Tonight, she impressed the jury with her live vocals and her song. MAYU is new to the music industry and is trying to establish herself at the moment.

NeVRuZ – “L’Alieno”

Although NeVRuZ looks quite provocative, his entry in the San Marinese selection is a soft rock ballad. The singer originally from Italy reminds us somehow of Ozzy Osbourne and now wants to show Europe his uniqueness and talent. NeVRuZ has played many concerts over the last few years and describes himself not only as a singer, but also an actor and songwriter as well.

Piqued Jacks – “Like An Animal”

Piqued Jacks have already played at many festivals, including in Romania. They are well-experienced in playing live and like to mix punk-rock elements with pop. Even though they’re from Italy as well, most of their songs are in English.

What do you think about the eight lucky acts in tonight’s show in San Marino? Who do you wanna see represent the nation at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool? Let us know in the comments below.

The picks were all bizarre this time. I can’t believe they picked the Spiderman guy. Ronela goes to second chance

“ESC contestant in San Marino second chance round” somehow feels even sadder than elimination

GIve her credit for actually coming out on stage when her result was read, unlike some others.

Alright, I liked the last two that start with X, and the Viviana without the costume

Nothing too great or too embarrassing in the first ten. Ronela and Sara probably the best.

I like the setting of the UVPSM background that makes it look like a Magic 8-Ball.

“Salvaje” is not my kind of thing, but it can stop Eiffel 65 in the final, I’m for that.

I missed Day 3 (sounds like people aren’t thrilled with the qualifiers?) but I’m back for more punishment today. Bring it on!

3 heats and actually some really good songs in the lot ! L’Alieno is probably the one that captivated my attention in this one though I find it pretty charming…

Piqued Jacks grabbed my attention just by the description, might be my favourites. I’ll give them a listen on Saturday.

X2, those words usually tend to end up being the craziest, most delusional and out-of-touch takes lol

OT: MF Heat 4 snippets are out and I liked Mariette & Axel like I was desperately hoping I would. I wanna hear the full versions before knowing just how much I like ’em but I hope one of them can win. I think Mariette might be able to?

Tattoo I find really boring, as I do all the others.

Yeah I listened to them a minute ago. Ik theyre only snippets but I will say, other than Kiana’s getting more likeable as it went on (the start of the snippet I wasnt overly enthused) theres no song in this snippet form that Im really gravitating towards atm. Loreen’s song sounds fine but (and ik its too early to say anything on it) but if I was to compare it to other bop snippets in national finals, it didnt stand out as much. Love her vocal in the snippet but I don’t like the You uu uuuu, Ta ttoo oo… Read more »

I wasn’t all that impressed by Tattoo either by that snippet. But I hear it’s a competent song and Loreen’s voice is a super power. But I will wait to judge her entry completely until Saturday evening when she’ s performed. Because she is something else than all the others on stage.

According to one of the accredited press people:
“The snippet really is no more than a teaser. It evolves a lot in the two upcoming minutes.”

Thats good to know, thanks for that

If you compare the snippet with the full lyrics, which are published, it seems like one with the snippet already has revealed most of the melody-lines Loreen is actually singing. But I expect there will be a great instrumental part we still haven’t heard, just after where the snippet ends. This is probably no new Euphoria but a good showcase for Loreen’s amazing voice!

Nicole Hammet’s song was better than anything in MESC.

For me, it would be my 6th / 7th in MESC… but still probably my winner or top 2 in UVPSM.

Hmm… it could be in my top 5 in MESC too, actually, even if still not ahead of my top 2 there. A very solid song from Nicole. Much better than this line-up deserved… and they qualified so many weaker songs ahead of her. I’m bummed. 🙁

I didn’t see them all, but of the ones I did, Mayu was probably my favourite. The song could be a little stronger, but what a performer.

Mayu is absolutely among the best ones today (and overall). With Nicole, MeriCler, Luca Minelli (old-fashioned song, but amazing voice), Morgana, and Noe. I’m glad for Mayu, but bummed about others (apart from Morgana, that is). I didn’t like most of the entries which made it through.

I listened to the whole song, and I’m unimpressed to say the least. I still listen to Blue, but this new song is a no from me, sadly. 🙁

More like Eiffel 16th place in semi.
Famous DJ’s have never done well in Eurovision, and so far all of them have had better songs than this.
Although San Marino’s chances are slim with anything they send, they would be better off with something else and just hope they get enough points to be borderline qualifier.
